  • A numerical experiment for a numerical mean curvature flow algorithm with surgery for a torus and a sphere joined by a thin neck. The surface first develops a pinch singularity, then the pinched-off spherical part shrinks to a round point. The colorbar corresponds to mean curvature.
    The experiment uses quadratic surface finite elements and second order linearly implicit BDF method.
