Great topic. Definitely looking more at these spreading fescue varieties. I wish Pete had a small bag so I could try a couple of areas that need some seed.
I did an overseed of kgb this past summer. It took forever to germinate, and I had to battle birds for 2-3 months to make sure my seed survived, and imo it isn’t worth using unless you buy straight up sod. For now on I’m only overseeding with PRG and TTTF. Both germinated in 7 days for me, and look excellent. Even if they don’t repair themselves I’d rather just keep overseeing bare spots with them because of how fast they germinated. Also the faster the seed germinates, the less your water bill will be.
I did a kill all renovated in my neighbors front yard with the new gci tttf blend and boy o boy its looking nice and i haven't did the first cut and second fertilizer app. I plan to cut it this weekend and do a 9-0-1 and rgs app. I did triple threat plus last year cause i love the kbg/tttf mix so next year its cool blue for me if i need to overseed.
I'm thinking im going to go with Pete's new lateral spreading fescue next fall ( plug n over seed) your absolutely right about that cool blue it looks amazing when it pops up but does struggle when warmer temps arrive. Have a great day.
Your lawn looks great and you are dominating your neighbor! Thanks for the tip. Although I live in KY, I’m not going to over-seed with the KY bluegrass in the spring. I’m going to do it with the spreading fescue. I have a mix of fescue and KY bluegrass right now.
Pretty sure Barebrug has a RTTTF. Saw something about it on Turf Mechanic, but he let Girlzlawn talk about it bc she used it. But in the Ryan Knorr Elite TTTF, it has 4 cultivators, 3 are self repairing, 1 lateral spreading I think. I'm using it for my backyard & looks great.
I live in the Concord, NC area and did a full renovation and seeded with GCI cool blue on 10/9. In early morning hours of 10/14 we had a torrential downpour and a lot of seed was washed into piles. A few days later we raked it back out and got pretty goo germination. Then on 10/26 woke to a lot of damage from moles/skunks/grubs with white grubs lying all over the backyard. I see you purchased the new lateral spreading fescue from GCI. I was afraid it would be too late to try to put more seed down, but I have a good bit of bare ground still. Are you going to put it down this late? Thanks for your informative videos!
If we are talking about spreading fescue, then we have to mention the GCI Spreader Elite. According to Pete, it spreads similar to kentucky blue, but not as fast. I just overseeded my existing grass, and newly seeded a small field with it. Came in great. Will see how it does next season.
Awesome explanation! I just performed a GCI tall fescue yard renovation front and back. What would you suggest to over seed with next year? I am excited with this new grass. I moved on from Bermuda. I love the lateral spread.
I just began in sept this yr. trying to get my yard looking good it's really a confusing process the more videos I watched the more I got confused so finally decided to go with Jonathan green ultra and Anderson starter Fert. and I can't believe how quick and green it come up its 42 degrees and I need to mow. I never realized how much difference there is in seed till now. now I'm afraid to try anything else. question is do you think that spreading fescue is as green of seed as Jonatthan gr? only reason I want to try it is, so I won't have to water as much, we get really hot summers in western ky. Thanks

I agree. 5lb or 10lb bags would be awesome for repair seeding or small areas.

That would be a great choice
I agree!

Yes sir. Thanks David! Have a great one sir.
I got the new seed from Pete when I did my renovation great dark green color
Wonderful. Just got some myself. I would expect nothing less!

I’d go with the GCI TTTF, unless you have a well and want to do bluegrass. Lots of options out there and you have a year to decide.
Mr. Ferg🙏🏾
What's uuuuuuup?
Okay so which one is better ... GCI TTTF new blend or GCI Spreader Elite?

I am getting 3 different types of seeds next year for my house. Need a deep shade mix, partial sun/shade mix and a full sun.
I have found that the spreading of TTTF is mostly marketing and it doesn’t blend as well with KBG as everyone is promoting.
