    LYRICS
    God has taken my eyes
    If I see no reflection
How the hell do I know I'm alive?
As the darkness bleeds into my mind
The force that screams to give up
Is grave enough to carve my name into a stone
Inspired by hope or defined by disease?
If you knew what it meant to be me
Could you close your eyes and never say "never"?
Or would you call this the end of the road?
I'm running out of memories, a shell of what I used to be
As this curse drains the life out of me
    God has taken my eyes
Yet blind faith couldn't kill me
It just is what it is between him and I
I've made sense of my senses
    And found my defenses internally
This is what sets me free
Inspired by hope or defined by disease?
If you knew what it meant to be me
Could you close your eyes and never say "never"?
Or would you call this the end of the road?
I'm running out of memories, a shell of what I used to be
As this curse drains the life out of me
Even if I never see again
I know I will breathe again
With the strength of a thousand men
I won't let this be my end
Even if I never see again
I know I will breathe again
With the strength of a thousand men
I won't let this be my end
Inspired by hope or defined by disease?
If you knew what it meant to be me
Could you close your eyes and never say "never"?
Or would you call this the end of the road?
I'm running out of memories, a shell of what I used to be
As this curse drains the life out of me
I won't let this drain the life out of me

Honestly. This video made me cry. It got to me the most at the end when he says how he wants to help other people. Like, Johnathan has lost so much. Yet still wants to help. That's fucking beautiful. This is the hope i have in the world. People like this. And i wanna be like him. He's honestly my biggest inspiration

    • @DJKronikCam710
      @DJKronikCam710 3 года назад

Bro I cry everytime I watch this video it's just so hard not to especially when he's somebody who wants to help other people no matter what is going on in his own life and honestly reading your comment made me cry more oh, I couldn't have put it any better myself I want to be like him too, it really makes me think how minut most of our problems are yet we let them bring us down or get the best of us, then you got Jonathan, who got dealt such a terrible hand in life and he is still so optimistic and wants to help other people it's just freaking beautiful

I know pain, I have a disease but not the same as john's disease, it's just I know what pain is, and the only thing "I" Can do to be happy is makes other people happy. it's more like, "We know what pain is, so we don't want somebody to get it, you better be happy"

I have a blood disorder (diagnosed at 12) that keeps me from doing things any normal teen can do. This is nothing compared to Jonathan but I honestly know what it feels like to be deprived of things you wish you could do. This song motivates me to do my best no matter what because I think "If you, Jonathan, can get through this then I can too" and it's honestly changed my view on things. INK have been my favorite band for a long time and everything they do puts a smile on my face; I've never been more proud to call 4 men my idols. Keep doing what you do; it keeps me going. Beautiful song and an amazing story. Best of luck to you Jonathan! Thank you and INK for making such a big impact on my life.

I know how you feel. I have a rare immune disorder that affects all of the bones and joits in my body that I got during my senior year of highschool and it's prevented me from doing everything I wanted. Hell, I had to skip my Senior prom and it was the worst feeling in the world. But thanks to this song I can see that if someone with this disease can keep going on, so can I.

Walter7143 Dude, that sucks, I'm so sorry, man. But I'm right with you; I've had to skip out on sports, dances and school events because I got so sick all the time. I'm coming up on my senior year soon and I already know I'm not able to participate in things. But knowing that Jonathan gets up every morning and continues on motivates me to do the same. Just know you're not alone homie. :)

I think anyone with any kind of disease, can relate to this song. I was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder, and it's a long shot from where Jon and even you, Jackie, are coming from. But, I lost most of my friends, because they couldn't handle me at my worst, I drove my ex fiancee away, because HE couldn't deal with it, and it kept me from doing things I loved the most. It kept me from going out, making friends, and even going to concerts. However, I've gotten put on medication and I see a therapist once a week, and waiting on my psychiatrist to call me for an appointment. Seeing him talk about his disorder and how, above all, he stays positive opened up my eyes and has made me realize that I need to take what's wrong with me, turn it around into something positive, and become an advocate and help others. I really do hope that a cure is found and I hope he stays positive.

    • @jackiesanchez5313

Rebecca Faulkner You go girl! That's exactly what you should do. I know it's hard and gets absolutely awful at times - I have an anxiety and depression too- but you always, ALWAYS have to push through. As WCAR state, "it'll never get easier but it'll always be worth it." Stay positive and keep your head up. And to the people who 'couldn't handle' it- fuck em! You don't need that type of people; you need those will stick with you through it all no matter how dark it gets. I'm here if you ever need anything. :)

Beautiful song. Thanks for spreading awareness of mitochondria disease. I'm Jeff. I'm 36. Last year when i was 35 i had stroke like episode. I t made loose my self identity. i have Melas (mitochondria encephalomyopathy. with lactic acidosis and stroke like symptoms) syndrome. It also causes a lot of other problems like MIDD (Maternally inherited diabetes and deafness) No Music, No (don't fish that line). I post this long almost every day on my Facebook wall hoping someone would notice and listen. I'm also slowly going blind. Jonathan you are not alone. I feel your pain. Peace, bro.

I want to be this guys best friend. Not even because of his disease or that i think he needs a friend, he's obviously stronger than many people might be in his situation. But i'd like to be his friend because he said "what makes me happy is making other people happy." Thats not something i've not heard many people say. I think we could all use to think that way more often than we do.

@Zute This comment was posted at a time when I had been (mis)diagnosed with the disease (7 years ago). It has since been determined that I have TC Deficiency, caused by mutations in the TCN2 gene (22q12.2) which encodes transcobalamin, a transporter of cobalamin (vitamin B12). Cobalamin has an important role in the metabolism of both homocysteine and methylmalonic acid as a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, respectively. Methionine synthase helps to maintain levels of methionine and its derivative, S-adenosylmethionine, which is required for neurotransmitter synthesis and methylation of DNA, RNA, lipids and proteins. It also prevents accumulation of homocysteine. TC is a severe, life-threatening and rapidly progressing disease. Treatment, started early, is highly effective and reverses the clinical and hematological manifestations of the disease. They didn't discover mine until I was in my forties, so a lot of damage has already been done. However, hydroxocobalamin injections are helpful and I am truly blessed to know my diagnosis! There are so many people out there who are dealing with illnesses without a name. To all those who are facing an enemy in the dark, my heart goes out to you!

This song is so deep and has such inspiration. Tess Timony is another fave, outside of the hardcore stuff, these guys are great at everything they do. Spencer's vocals are OP in either way he chooses to use them. The $37,000 they donated to Australia. I discovered this band less than a year ago and am learning all I can about them. I don't like when people label me as disabled which relates to the line: "Inspired by hope or defined by disease..."'. I really feel for Jonathan, he goes through many of the things I go through but differently. All disabilities I can relate to. We all go through difficult times. it's quite a literal song. it's what i'm going through. "we're all going home, some of us are just going home a little faster than others."- A quote from a fellow mitochondrial disease patient. it's oddly comforting and heart breaking to know that others are suffering like oneself.

    • @jeffjohnson8624
      @jeffjohnson8624 2 года назад +1

i've given up being positive. it's a literal song. Although, you can take it metaphorically if you want. Mitochondrial Diseases are very real. with no cures in the works except from the Netherlands. At least they've got the guts to research for a cure where as other countries are too afraid to "play god" to research a cure. so they're looking for consumable bandaids for broken bones. it's all about big profits. There're no big profits for curing rare diseases though. "future's uncertain, but certainly slight"- INXS ☮️🖖🎶

@14 being a guitar playing passionate sk8r musician I was shot in the head losing one eye ear my left arm my balance speech i forced myself to walk again talk eat and just everything especially being sociably acceptable trying to make a kid better by association but he just was overcome by the devil and the "older" ice nine kills came and did a show for me in 07 and I feel so strongly attached to them by heart I'm just so desperately praying it's not grossly awkwardly become a "stalked" feeling

I honestly don't like this song, nor can I really get into the band. But I'm giving them huge props for what they're doing for their friend and the research for the disease. So best of luck to the band's goal and Jonathan.

My son was diagnosed at just under a year old with muscular dystrophy. A cardiac doctor mentioned there's currently tests happening to correct the gene that causes MD and they're hoping to at least be able to stop the symptoms. So many young peoples' lives affected by MD it would be truly amazing to have such a breakthrough procedure. No one wants to bury their children or even think about it.

this is such an important song. i heard that this disease is very common but i never really hear anyone mention it, everyone only talks about cancer (which is also horrible of course) thank you for spreading awareness, a lot of people has probably never heard of this before and they can donate money now. i love this band so much.

I think it's so cool that Ice Nine Kills has done a song like this to bring attention to a disease like this. I have a rare immune disease that affects all of the bones and joints in my body that causes agonizing pain which I got during my senior year of high school. It's hard to keep going on when it feels like you have a curse that no one seems to have the answers for or how to cope with it. I hope this becomes a thing with more artist with more horribly diseases like this one.

This song is so beautiful, really makes you appreciate what you have in life, some people can't even wake up, some can't walk, some can't talk or hear etc. Jonathan is such a strong willed person, His story sounds tragic but that's not stopping him from blocking out all the negativity life throughs at him, if only people knew what it was like to be in his shoes, then they'd really appreciate everything they have, Ice nine kills is literally such a great band, there songs are always full of meaning, they are honestly the best band I've ever listened to, I'm obsessed with them now 😊, Much respect to you guys for putting together a complete masterpiece, and good luck John you knock all the barriers life puts in your way.
