  • Join me on a tour around my allotment garden and my newly organised shed! I'll also share with you the exciting activity that has taken place in my wildlife pond, in between the heavy snowfall this month.
    My allotment is based in St. Ann's Allotments in Nottingham, UK which is a grade II listed site that is known to be the largest and oldest allotment site in Europe.
    I apologise in advance for my nervousness, the interrupting chainsaw and rambling! This is only my second video so if you like what I'm doing let me know and I might invest in getting a microphone!

    I loved this until the snow came. Although it does make me feel less alone. I live in Minnesota and we just had a historic, record-breaking, mid-April BLIZZARD. The snow was gone save for a few stubborn patches, my daylilies are popping up, sedums are starting to sprout, and there are buds on the trees. And then we got winter storm Xanto. It's apparently the heaviest April snowstorm on record in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area. So now there's a record 14.7 inches of snow on all my spring plant growth. I have never been so sick of snow. I hope the weather is treating you better! I'm excited to see more videos from you and your lovely allotment.

    If you tease the soil around the base of the plum tree the robins will love you and you wont have so many saw fly larvae to crawl up to the buds . . .Happy allotmenteering :)

    Terrific first video! You and your garden are delightful! Love your shed, your tunnel, and all the progress you have already made. It's an enchanting place.
    I have watched lots of videos on gardening but found most to be boring in the extreme. Ha The one I love to watch the most is Sean Cameron but now you have moved into place with him. You are very interesting and enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to seeing what you are doing in your garden.
    Bye for now from southern Indiana USA.

    found your channel from other similar sites.
    your shed and your tools?
    screw in a hook on the inside of your roof at the highest poit, both ends and in the middle, then put in another hook about half way down the roof in ends and middle.
    then attach to the hooks a bunge cord, you may want to double ti up so you have x2 strands sitting in a loop from hook to hook, then you have over head space to place tools like your rake, spades etc rest the tools inside of the loops so they sit up out the way which will give you some more floor space to put other stuff instead :)

    • @fainitesbarley2245
      @fainitesbarley2245 5 лет назад

      Great idea.
      You can also glue lengths of plastic tubing together a nd fix it in a corner and just slot the tools in the tubes
      For smaller tools make a bucket of oiled sand and stick them in. Keeps them sharp and rust free.

Leave the paint job as is, looks good. Wilko's Plastic Sheeting 8 x 6 metres £2.99 enough could make a poly tunnel. I used thick pvc pipe for the hoops of the tunnel.

    The blackcurrant bush could do with a lot of the old [black in colour] stems pruning to the ground- obviously now after fruiting- to encourage new shoots to grow. New shoots are lighter in colour than two year old shoots. The idea is to encourage the plant to renew itself.

    • @homegrowngarden

    I love to potter about in my small back garden planting some fruit and veg ,so an half plot alllotment seemed a good idea back in late Febuary..,,but im not enjoying the experence..the ground is over grown and hard,the shed i was promised from "Terrys old plot" never happened,the folk seemed odd and it feels like a job getting it ready to plant rather than an enjoyable hobby...still only dig half my back is aching my shoulder hurts...hoping once all the prep work is done it will be more enjoyable cause right now i could easily just stick to my own garden..!!

    • @fainitesbarley2245
      @fainitesbarley2245 5 лет назад

      Look up ‘no dig’ beds.
      Put the plank edgings down on the grass and weeds. No more than four foot wide. If you’re not organic - spray inside with weed killer. If you are - don’t. Cover with a layer of cardboard. Cover that with four inches of compost/manure. If you want to use it later this year you need well rotted manure. If you can leave it longer unrotted is fine.
      Then plant straight into in summer or next spring.
      Never stand on them. Hoe occasionally. Next year another couple of inches of compost/manure.

    When I saw this I thought it was my allottment! Even down to the poly tunnel with the water collecting gutters which are brilliant. And the overgrown plum tree.
    I got mine last March - untouched for four years.

      They vary. You don’t have to live locally. Usually there’s a waiting list. You have to keep them in a ‘good and husband like manner’ and there are for growing vegetables, fruit and flowers for personal and family use only.
      Local Authorities have an obligation to ensure some are provided but lots are much older than that. There’s some in Nottingham that are about 200 years old.
      My one is provided by the local landowner. Originally they provided them for their employees. Then extended them generally at the insistence of the Local Authority rather than be obliged to sell land I expect.
