- 02-02-25 Acts 11:27-30 "Faith in Action"
They were first called "Christians" in Antioch. They resembled Christ and what they do next proves that they really are Christians. God used the prophecy of Agabus to prepare the church to help their brothers in Judea. The chapter starts with those in Jerusalem criticizing the fact that Peter went and ate with Gentiles and yet now those same Gentiles send aid to these Jews during the famine. God was braking down the wall that separated Jew and Gentile and now they are family. Their love showed that they were Jesus' disciples (John 13:35).
Earlier the church in Jerusalem had no needy person among them (Acts 4:34) and now they will be poor and needy and need help from outside. Gentiles would provide for their Jewish brothers and sisters. "Indeed they owe it to them." For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings." (Rom. 15:26,27).
