  • Choosing the correct tool to cut the tail end off of your zip ties could save you from a nasty scratch or cut later on. In this video I compare 5 different tools to see which one leaves the best cut, and is easiest/safest to use.
I bought the beefier Flush Cut pliers that I used in this video on Amazon. I bought a multi-pack since I
like to have a pair in the shop, in my hobby room, and at work. I also had a few pairs to give to friends.

I always use fingernail clippers because they leave a nice rounded edge

I'll have to give that a try. I feel like they would require a lot of effort to make the cut? I'm sure I have a spare pair, or 3, that I can use to test. Thanks for the comment.

@@MakerMinded you are correct, it only works on small ties (bicycles). Good for some random indoor cuts. Thanks for the tips, reply, and great vid. Thumbs up

@@AndruComedy That makes sense. It might be a handy tool to have for those small zip ties in hard to reach places. I appreciate the comments, and am glad you enjoyed the video!

I use a box cutter but my trick is to melt the tip with a BIC lighter.

Do you find that the extra step with the lighter is necessary if you score the zip tie right at the base and snap it off? I've always found that it leaves a very clean edge with that method. The lighter sounds like a good tip if you have an occasional less-than-clean cut that needs touching up.
