Light's plan here really demonstrates his ego lol. He knew EXACTLY what Near's plan, exactly how the trap would play out, and what did he do? He chose to spring the trap in exactly the manner that Near thought he would in an attempt to show how much smarter and superior he is. There were so many easier, safer ways to take Near out using the power and influence that he now wields as Kira. Even if he simply *didn't* try to kill Near at this specific meeting in this specific manner, then Near's plan would have been a bust. But he just HAD to go and play along with Near's plan as much as possible because he wanted to humiliate him and besmirch L's legacy in the process. Hubris has always been a flaw of his, obviously, but he really let it go into overdrive on this one.
People have complained before that Light's defeat is an ass pull because Light is supposedly so much smarter and more careful than during his final play, but I think you're completely correct in your observation that he really *isn't*. As others have said, Light has been an arrogant and careless bastard before when he thought he was sure to win (think back to him gloating at Naomi Misora's demise). It just so happens that he was wrong for the first time.
Wolf6120 Honestly, why did Light have Mikami even write down their names. Should have just had him yell out the names of everyone in the room, including his own. Then he could have picked him off in his own time
Well, shouting them out wouldn't tell him how to spell them lol. But Mikami could always have written the names down and then run away with the notebook instead of coming inside like a fucking idiot. But, again, Light was the one who told him to, because he was so confident that he'd win.
Light also bragged that he was Kira to Naomi Misora when he killed her. You remember, Raye Penbar's detective wife? This is nothing new. He's always been a psychopath which is both infuriating and fun to watch.
When I was younger and I watched Death Note, I used to want Light to win because he was cool in my eyes. 4 years later, he's an asshole who gets everything he deserves.
Yea, when they started talking about it, I went to reference it from the manga, and word for word it says, “Light Yagami... ...! I knew it... I wasn’t... wrong... But... I...” Then he died.
I think a big part of Near's deductions are how he can easily slip into the mindset of treating this as a game, just like how Light is. L was incredibly competitive too, which is why he and Light were always at about the same level. He played the risky but clever moves that constantly kept Light on his toes. Near and Mello baited Light into making risky and complicated plans because they didn't feed enough of his competitive desire. To put it simply, Light vs L is a tennis match. Light vs Near is a tennis match but Light decided to use the rocket-powered racket that also might spontaneously explode because Near said it would make things more fun.
He was touching the notebook the whole time and saw Ryuk before Light and co even entered the warehouse, why would him seeing Ryuk prove Light was Kira?
Red Sparrow if you read manga there's no way you can get the amazing shots like What Mikami does in anime or Light writing names in first episod etc. The animation was consistent. That's what matters imo. I'm not saying recent anime has bad animation but they are not consistent ( exclude long series please ). Old DBZ had better fight scenes and good fighting direction overall. Super has good and bright colours but faces, Body structures were so much better in Z. Few episodes where super had animation reminiscent to Z were ultra instinct one ( that particular Animator guy who helped in making of it). Other anime with good colours but bad direction or you can say lazy drawing is Food wars. Don't get me wrong ,I love food wars but if you have noticed there has been a lot of cartoonish faces ( Smug faces ) in S3. Why? Lazy drawings. There will be very less moments in death note where you are like - Oh it's so bad. ReLIFE had bad animation but colours and overall style covered up for it imo. So it depends on budget of anime and stuff that we are unknown to , who knows. MadHouse can animate good action anime scenes as well like OnePunch man , Btooom. For 2003 , this animation was good and still I would consider it good when compared to newer anime with overly bright backgrounds , inconsistent and lazy drawings.
I love how Light gets fucked over for his arrogance and smugness. By far his most fatal flaw. If he had just more humility in general nobody could've probably stood up to him.
It's both their faults. While Mikami can be blamed for the failure of THIS plan because he deviated from his assigned role, it was Light's hubris that caused him to choose this specific plan, even though it was incredibly risky and unnecessarily confrontational. As Kira, he had the power to manipulate governments and raise angry mobs on a moment's notice, but instead he insisted on defeating Near face-to-face to show just how amazing and superior he was.
★ Froggie Animation ★ Mikami WANTED to be found out sooner or later. Light's plan consisted in *baiting* Near into finding out the actual X-Kira PRECISELY so he could play mind games off of him by handing out artificial accomplishments and giving Near the necessary high to never doubt his note falsification plan (which Light also predicted). The fact that Near suspected it was him from of TV recordings was just an added bonus that didn't actually change the course of events, only accelerated it.
17:27 In the anime, they rushed the Mello and Near arc so much that it angers me how much Near is hated in the DN fandom. (he is my favourite albino sheep -3-) In the manga, he didn't just guessed it was Mikami, he watched the tv show and decoded a message from Teru's speech to Kira which led him to conclude that he is the one. Near is an amazing character. He will always remain as my favourite DN character next to Ryuk. He basically was the one who proved that Kira's worshipers are no different from evil themselves. Earlier in the story, Light said that the one who opposes him is the true evil but Near proved this to be wrong but showing how greedy and evil his own followers are by getting distracted with the money being thrown--- shows that their true intention of being there was because of the bandwagon and not for proper duty. This is supposed to be a good thing yet fans make this as proof as to why he is disrespectful (by using L's inheritance to do that) and deserving of the hate. Sometimes I am afraid to even express my love for Near because DN fans would attack me saying that all he does is guesswork and is basically an L wallmart version which I don't think is true. :( p.s sorry for the grammatical errors hehe not a native english speaker here.
This is my favourite episode, the animation, sound, voice acting (I prefer the dub over sub for this anime) its all just so good. I especially love the part when Light comes out of the car, the slow mo kicks in, the music, ugh so good. And Light's monologue when he thinks he has won and time stops, those are just perfect.
I always love Light since the beginning and he is always that arrogant. Only after L is dead, he's letting his guard down and he's getting sloppy by each episode
Near took the mask off as a show of good faith to the others. It wouldn't be fair for him to say that Mikami was gonna come in and kill everyone and Near would be the only one protected.
I haven't seen anyone comment on this, but Near's smile at 6:09... Spoilers for the next episode but he's smiling because he can see Ryuk, which in turn confirms to him that he does indeed have the real Death Note. Basically it was a confirmation that his plan has worked and he's won, and that Kira will be outed here and now.
I fucking love light yagami. He's the most unique main character I have ever seen in any anime, show, or movie. There really isn't anyone like him as a main character. That's why death note is my favorite anime, because of the 2 characters light and L
Light lost because he thought himself miles ahead of everyone else. When he killed takada he thought he was the only one smart enough to realize that had to happen. When both he and us know he picked mikami because he thought like light and would also realize takada needed to die. But his hubris kept him from realizing that of course mikami would want to kill takada to, he thinks like light. If light had realized he isn't unique he could have maybe won. But he thought only he was smart enough to win unlike L who understood he wasn't special and had heirs waiting.
Man, I know Light is doing wrong here but I really want him to win. At the same time I don't. I feel like a show is great when you feel conflicted on whether or not to cheer on a protagonist.
Hell yeah, he's a great villain protagonist. I am worried by the people who unironically support him. I guess it's an example of the cultural divide of the West and Japan about vigilantism. Seriously, the creator of Death Note said Light Yagami was evil lmao.
I always wondered light never went to the meeting and was smart enough to just take a random person he knows will be able to do it and writes in his deathnote that they will bomb this place. Sure, it doesn't guarantee near's death but it sure as hell would help him.
Well to be fair Light after the timeskip started to get cornered more and more until the point he HAD to rely on Mikami. Mello and Near together surpass L so...it was only a matter of time at that point. Also, Light got so cocky and smug after the death of L that basically relaxed a bit too much.
Light could have easily won if he just had Mikami wait to kill after the fact. Like if Mikami just wrote down the names & walked away it could have been game over right there, or texted them off somewhere, or sent an email with all the names.
Light would have simply told Mikami to keep some deathnote paper on him at all times until the moment comes, even if the real Death Note with all the pages would have been replaced Light would have won.... But the show had to stop at some point....
Light was actually smiling at L. In the manga, L's dying thoughts were "I knew it.....I wasn't wrong". I think they only have his usual red tint to show how evil he was, and that he had officially become Kira the God with L out of the way. L was also animated in a ghost - like way when he died for more symbolism.
Yes. I love the fact that Lelouch and Light have similar ideals, changing the world at any cost. But the way the show portrays them and their goals makes 1 seem a lot more reasonable. It's always been interesting to me as a fan of both shows.

yay remember to see the episode after the end.... :-) and why dident Micamie have atlest have 1 page from the right book on him.... not like that not normal to have 1 page and a pen on you and use that instead....
Light's plan here really demonstrates his ego lol. He knew EXACTLY what Near's plan, exactly how the trap would play out, and what did he do? He chose to spring the trap in exactly the manner that Near thought he would in an attempt to show how much smarter and superior he is.

Not only do they not read RUclips comments, they also watch these several weeks in advance, so I'm pretty sure it's fine.
Wolf6120 Honestly, why did Light have Mikami even write down their names. Should have just had him yell out the names of everyone in the room, including his own. Then he could have picked him off in his own time

Wolf6120 But maybe Light’s ego was also part of Near’s plans.
Light also bragged that he was Kira to Naomi Misora when he killed her. You remember, Raye Penbar's detective wife? This is nothing new. He's always been a psychopath which is both infuriating and fun to watch.
That's part of Light's character . I guess he wants them to know the truth before they die , cuz he has respect for them.
Kira is an arrogant little wanker that gets what he deserves. I have no sympathy at all for Light by the end of the series
I mean L says it himself that Light has a childish element to his character , that he doesn't like to lose and same goes for L
That reason is why I saw Light as a villain protagonist
When I was younger and I watched Death Note, I used to want Light to win because he was cool in my eyes. 4 years later, he's an asshole who gets everything he deserves.
There was some internal dialogue when L died in the manga saying ‘I was right’ after looking at Light’s face.
Yea, when they started talking about it, I went to reference it from the manga, and word for word it says, “Light Yagami... ...! I knew it... I wasn’t... wrong... But... I...”
Then he died.
Man, glad they didn't add that to the anime. It does add some needed context, but I feel like that would really ruin the scene in animated form.
Damn
Spoilers:
Light is Kira
I thought it was L
Fk you messed my show😂

No, he definitely gave L an evil smile before he died to show that Light won and L lost :'(
I think a big part of Near's deductions are how he can easily slip into the mindset of treating this as a game, just like how Light is. Death note is a 2006 anime and still has good animation when compared to other anime in recent years xD
Yes...*cough cough much better animation than a certain Super anime cough cough*
It's not like this show required much complex animation, though. There's very little action, it's all atmosphere and dialogue.
Red Sparrow if you read manga there's no way you can get the amazing shots like What Mikami does in anime or Light writing names in first episod etc. The animation was consistent. Recent animation has too much particle effects and cgi for me.
Takes me out of it.
Red Sparrow
The anime still tried its darndest to add action though. Behold its epic writing!
I'm disappointed there wasn't much Ryuk and his antics in this ep I wanted him to mock the whole setup lol
