  • Historic Valley Dale Ballroom in Columbus Ohio was the location for a 50th birthday celebration for the Beatles American TV debut, and the radio station that played their music, the New WCOL. Produced by Landa Brunetto, the show featured plenty of live and recorded music, none of which is on this point-and-shoot movie, this because of copyright restrictions. The emphasis here is on those original WCOL DJs present, all of whom get a "key to the city" from the Mayor of Columbus.

In 1932, Rudy Vallee flew into port columbus, and arrived in a sporty roadster coming down the hill there, and sang with a megaphone to the students of OSU for their spring dance. I was told it cost $5.00 a couple to get in which was a lot of money then. He supposedly just stayed a short while then left. Everybody was PO'd! This was an outdoor dance behind the ballroom between the building and the river behind there.

Valley Dale appeares to have a history of hosting hip events. The dance hall also hosted the Warhol people during Andy's cross-country trip. (I believe this was the entorage's trip to the West coast.)
