Nobel: "on all levels except physical, I am a wolf"

I believe that the main reason werewolves are so out of place in Dragon Age is because they've only been featured in one game. If they show up again in the future and are a little more common then they might not seem so out of place, id personally would like to see more maybe even go as far as having a main character be one and us having to free them from the curse. just a thought. anyway great video as always!

@@deathsdoor07 true, but the way they put them in is highly specific, and very easy to miss. I do agreed that the werewolves feel really out of place, but I think it's more of a writing issue, than anything else.
Since DA:O started as a DnD game, but then got swapped after the right fell through, I think a lot of stuff had to be kinda quickly rewritten, and suffered from it. They've ironed a lot of that out, but I think the werewolves are one thing that needs work.

What about the Cousland history with the werewolves? Mather and/or Haelia Cousland imposed curfews and patrols and/or led the banns in hunting down the werewolves. If the human noble has enough cunning (15 I think), he or she can answer Aldous saying Highever became a teyrnir during the lycanthropy plagues. This also shows that the lands of Highever endured a plague of werewolfism.

The werewolf legend reminds me of an old Celtic legend. Prince Pryderi stole a stag from a pack of dogs to feed his own hounds but King Arawn of Annwn (Hell) told him he needed to make up for his mistake. He had Pryderi take his role as king for a year so that he would fight an opponent of Arawn's for him while Arawn took Pryderi's place. I can't remember the rest but that's the gist of it.

Whatever happened to the werewolves- I guess since they're cured we'll just call them ex-Werewolves or Wolf Men or something- AFTER the Fifth Blight ended? I read or watched something, somewhere that said they all moved to Gwaren to help rebuild in Loghain's absence and were the main reason it succeeded, since apparently these 'wolf-men' can do things like control animals and hunt better than anyone and essentially have an upgrade to every bodily function...or all the perks of the guy from teen wolf I dont fuckin know.
Imagine if one of them couldn't just DROP the fact that he's been a literal maneating monster and apex predator for who knows how long, well past his natural lifespan, and now has to be taught how to be 'human again' while trying not to eat people out of habit. If this doesn't scream potential companion or future awesome story arc, I don't know what does.

What about what Morrigan says about shapeshifting in Origins in that she explains how she would take on a another animals form via observing other animals and changing into them and when asked if she could change into another human she says "Why would I do that I have a human form already that allows me to walk among humans?" Also when Morrgian get shapeshifter master your spider, & bear form change to the blighted versions of them animals

I'm a bit surprised you don't see werewolves more often in Thedas considering Ferelden's apparent attachment towards canines in their culture so imo it doesn't seem too far fetched for multiple forms of the lycanthropy curse to exist considering Highever had a problem with them for a while which led to the Couslands/Howe's working together on dealing with it

My interpretation is that Dane didn't lead a campaign against the werewolves because he disliked them, Dane let a campaign against the werewolves because he didn't want the curse to reverse after the initial year, or maybe it never did it all as a coin that can't be unspent.

I think maybe vampirism could fit well with blood magic, like it’s something a blood mage can eventually become and those which are bitten by the mage becomes a vampire below them, so there’s like a power scaling and a rank of command.

It's probably weird to comment on a million year old video, but w/e.
I wouldn't necessarily say they're out of place, but they're definitely unnecessary. I generally feel like werewolves are included way too often in fantasy for no good reason and with no serious attempt to integrate them into the fabric of the lore. They're not really a core part of the genre though, so you can't get away with just adding them for the hell of it like you can with dragons, magic, knights, and so on and so forth.
