Multi-layer thermal curtains: definitely yes, even if you have double-glazing. Make sure they go all the way to the floor, and have enough material to remain slightly bunched when closed. Pelmets along the top are pretty unfashionable but helpful in reducing convection. Just watch for condensation on the cold side - you want the dew point of indoor air to remain below the air temperature in the space between window and curtain.
How can I seal a patio sliding door to stop the cold feeling I don’t feel a draft but it’s very cold near the patio door, I don’t want to stop using the patio. Is there any way to help the room stay warmer.
Glass does transfer heat out and you can feel it cooling the room standing several feet away, on big windows. I use insulating curtains to contain an in-between layer of air. I think there are insulating blinds which do similarly. Its an excuse to shop around and compare, or look it up if you are making your own.
I don't have scribers on my windows and are not filled in. A couple of years ago I asked how to make them. Get that weather board angle. Can you do that?
Oh my days, here I am thinking the first job was unnecessary then you put a window film wow, dude you're working in the wrong country, we need your work here in Europe
@@hudsonquay I've lived in a country where it gets down to -20°C (-4 °F) on a cold winter's night, and I still struggle with the cold worse in NZ because of these terribly insulated houses

Internal rooms with only one external wall are usually the most comfortable, warm and cheapest to heat.

Not every house has it. Mine is single and this is the reason I am watching this video. #renter
what is the window film that you used.
With an in swing door, you would think that the door sweep would bind when you try to shut the door??
1st1shot , It doesn't go down to seal until it hits the cam on the outside of the door, when you push it shut.
Which brand of widow film did you use?
It's most likely New Decor or Alcor branded Liou ^Charlie
Awesome ideas...
What was it you used for the doors? Does Mitre10 sell it?
The honest guys

Use large bubble, bubble wrap, adhere it inside with a spray of water. In the spring roll it up, label & store it for next year.

If you still need to make scribers.. check out Scott Brown Carpentry on youtube

...I've never seen a door seal like that...
From the looks of the weather there I doubt you need any of those seals lol
Absolutely agree completely wasted time and effort
@@454bigblock NZ can get cold in winter, especially the South Island. Poorly insulated homes are common which makes this worthwhile.

Can you use press and seal? It is a lot like plastic wrap
I love that stuff, and use it for everything! I wish they made it wider for some projects!
I love all of them

Don't tell me that Australians have draft issues... Odd
rx0788 mitre 10 is in Aus and NZ, and NZ definitely have draft issues ❄️
More people die of the cold in Australia than in Switzerland. Our houses were built to have fires in them, without that they're basically tents.

MASKING TAPE??...LOL you don't need masking tape to apply caulking....that is just silly and you didn't have enough on there to do the job!
Tim Passinault Most people wouldnt...But I think this is a good idea for someone whos never used a caulking gun so they dont make a huge mess.
silican ? 🤣
In Europe you dont need this shit
