I've never seen a crash that was shorter... Crashes tend to slide along the ground. Hell, nose dive 90' vertical and hit the ground square on and the debris will still fly further than 10ft 6". Dude could have landed that on my house roof. With room to spare and possibly turn around. Well, if it wasn't for the slope of the roof.

WOW ! If you ignore the white line for the zero point to start the measurement for this landing and just count where the wheels actually touched the ground it looks more like an AMAZING 8 foot landing ! ! If this man will sell retrofit-able wings to all super cubs what an amazing upgrade these wings would be on any older cub . Keep up the good work.
Probably better than any RC aircraft could do even with all the advantages in power to weight/ lift models can have. A modeler can never have that feel and exact controll from feedback. Awesome landing.
I built a customized Carl Goldberg Senior Falcon that weighed 7 pounds and had a MDS .78 glow engine in it that would take off in its own length on a totally calm day, it could land within one half of its length. Any picnic table was an airfield, I had to sell it unfortunately. Came in to land at a 35 degree angle and stopped instantly. Never shortchange models, 3D models can hover into a landing.
Regarding one person's comment that setting records should require landings in both directions for an average: Taking off or landing with the wind is a scary proposition. Tried it once and that was more than enough for me. Your suggestion is against every protocol of flying. No one would participate. Your logic is sound about variables in keeping records. But pilots get it, trust me, few pilots can "spot" land an airplane, much less stopping in 10 feet. To build, own and fly airplanes like these is a dream for most pilots. Appreciate the fact that a very small percentage of pilots are licensed to fly taildraggers in the first place. Most pilots have no idea how to fly these airplanes. I have seen commercial pilots try to fly my J3 Cub and completely lose control as soon as the take off roll begins. Much more dangerous for the beginner on landing. I was fortunate and blessed to buy a J3 Cub before I could fly. Took my lessons in it, soloed it and flew it and many other taildraggers for many happy hours. I have owned 11 taildragger airplanes including many Cubs, and even with my experience I groundlooped a hot Luscombe one time. After that even one of my flying buddies that owned a Pitt's Special would not fly my repaired Luscombe. To this day certain taildraggers intimidate me. One of the best benefits of these super STOL (short take off & landing) airplanes is that they get off and land so short you do not have to keep them straight very long. I flew one once and it was so easy and a real blast to fly! Wish I could fly this record setting airplane.
That is remarkable I have NO idea of the planes payload capacity but STOL technology is every bit as important as the fastest, biggest, farthest and can be used for OH such more every day use of general transportation, supply and air ambulance uses, in tight places. That video was great to see.
Just beautiful & interesting to watch. For a more practical record, I would like to see a fully loaded & kitted out bush plane attempt to do the some thing. The 10 foot, 5 inches, landing is a VERY IMPRESSIVE concept record, BUT, I would like to see how these planes would operate when they are fully fueled, loaded, & carrying 2 passengers. Thoughts?
So essentially he landed in a parking space. Damn, that's seriously impressive. As was the fact he lifted the tail of the plane before he even let off the brakes.

I wouldn't call her hot. I mean, she has a nice figure and all but you'd definitely want to smash her from behind with her face in a pillow so you can pretend she's a model.
@@vojtasTS29 they can actually go backwards relatively to the ground as their stoll speed (as in their tech spec sheet) is 50km/h or about 27kn and considering this has to be airspeed... but you can't land them beasts this short
I would be curious to know what the wind speed was that day. Also, is the landing length measured from the line? Or the point of touchdown? Because if it’s measured from the point of touchdown, it is way less than 10 feet. The tires made one full complete rotation after touchdown. On a 26 inch tire, that would be 6.8 feet of roll, on a 29 inch tire it would be 7 1/2 feet of roll.
What was the wind speed and trim speed of the stol plane? If you get this two values equal plane will land straight down like heli with right person in it.
SillyPuddy2012 - That's what I thought too. But I think they count from the moment any wheel touches the ground, and you see that tiny black wheel touched the ground before the main gear. I think that's how they got 10ft.

Under an ideal (lucky) approach? Frank Knapp could have landed it a foot shorter. Maybe Helium filled bladders within the frame, inside the fuselage, in the tires and wings?
When you have to land a plane but you only see a helicopter pad
Pretty cool, I've seen shorter landings, but they are called crashes!
A perfect landing when the plane isn't one-time-use
Dan Boren lmao.
Benjamin P if everyone else dies during the crash landing except for the pilot. Is it stills good landing.

Its Joe! Best fresh Alaskan Salmon Oshkosh BBQ award of 2016! It was nice meeting and hanging out with you guys last year.
steveo1kinevo you're welcome Joe, are you coming next year.
steveo1kinevol I want some of that Salmon 🐟🐟🐟
That little yellow plane is **amazing!**

So, it's a forward facing helicopter. Amazing! Love it!
Bloody awesome! Even our local microlights can't beat that!
These guys never cease to amaze me.
This is the first time I've seen of heard of this short landing and short take off. Amazing.
That looks like lots of fun. Love to fly one of those in Alaska.
just land that in the driveway
David Chen Yeah, who needs a runway? Looks like it could easily clear a 50ft obstacle before you'd cross the road.
@@benjaminrapp7418 Can you imagine the infiltration they could have got in ww2 with this?
Absolutely outstanding!

How beautiful it is to see these pilots and their planes landing congratulations
The take off is almost instantanleous, bravo!
Excellent film footage and sound. Commentary was pretty accurate.
Incredible. I wonder what the head winds were at the time of that landing.

Totally Awesome an 800 lb. 1939 J3Cub with O-320(180) hp/ Frank Knapp can show us how it is done 🏁
They are some badass pilots makes me want to get and start learning to fly my own airplane!
THAT was beautiful. STOL. Fly ANYWHERE!!!
That "Yellow Jacket" landed like a helicopter !!!
That made my day - amazing! :)

Awesome job!
Love it! I would love to fly it.
Most impressive flying...
AMENNN !!! ! !!!
Love this stuff....
that was amazing!
just beautiful !!
It's fantastic. Never seen other
True to this day....Tail Draggers rock👍🏻 They always have, and they always will (Super Cub N4070Z) from years gone by.
That is just crazy- cool, re: the 10&1/2 ft. landing. The engine must also use a hugely variable- pitch propeller...is that part of the uniqueness?

I knew an FAA examiner that if I could've made a 10'5" landing he'd say "I asked for 10 feet, not 10'5"!!!" :/
10 feet 5 inches! Fantastic!
Verry fine landings
Wow! Amazing!
I am amazed by that aircraft! I’m an Australian farmer and I want one. Davox.
The news reference to the O-320 180hp engine is incorrect, its a C-85 stroked out with a O-200 crank.
Very impressive warm front!

with enough head wind it could land going backwards
I've seen an An-2 go backwards. They're huge but they're like cubs and it looks so amazing.
I suppose with big enough flaps it could well do that.

Magnifique bravo j'adore ^_^
I'ts aesthetically pleasing to look at.
If you spring load the landing gear it could use the absorbed energy from landing to fling the aircraft back up on take off.
very stimulating!
But really it only took a couple of feet from first contact of front wheels to stopped position. That is just insane!
Wow! I want that plane. Imagine if you were only doing 10 knots on landing. Not much to worry about there. And what, 20 feet to take off? Amazing
Fantastic.....
Really cool!
That's just SILLY! : )
Виртуозы, ассы! Привет из Кавказа!
very amazing pilot...
Amazing airplane. I wonder how much doest cost?
I'm absolutely amazed , its stunning 👍🙂😲, it makes mans ability to fly -CHILDS PLAY , WOW!!
Awesome.. I need one plane like this😜
Лихие парни!👍Очевидное-невероятное.
shortest landing on land vary cool. these guys could land on a aircraft carrier in 0 feet. we did it in the 60s with prob jobs. this is fun to watch.
Did he say 10 feet five inches or was my pornhub tab still open?
Both

im totally shocked by yellow!!! its a...thats it. im in love of this kinda grandsons of the "storch"!

No mention here these are pretty cool planes.
Wonderful brunette news anchor. Some nice flying too.
yes hes very sexy

Those guys doing the counting are slow in the head. That modified Cub clearly took off and landed inside of three feet.
look again
Rondo Schiavoni - I already watched it, sure wasn't anything close to the length of the plane.
SillyPuddy2012 - That's what I thought too. But I think they count from the moment any wheel touches the ground, and you see that tiny black wheel touched the ground before the main gear. I think that's how they got 10ft.
And your eye is more accurate than they who are on-site? What scale does one have? On my tablet it was 2.5 inches
SillyPuddy2012
I think the organizers said it was a paired combination of t/o and landing
Looks like 3 to 4 feet to me ...
How do they measure
Ali Anser From first contact to full stop. Really it was only 3 feet but the tail wheel contacted first so it was the length of the aircraft.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!
Impressive!
I like that they think STOL is such a well known acronym that there was no need to say what it stood for.
In order to get a realistic number they should land in both directions and average the numbers to calculate the wind out.
