I just left the area 11 months ago. I was hooked on dope/fentanyl for almost 20 years and at the end I was using tranq. My son found me down there and took me home with him 3 states away and I'm in a methadone clinic now. It's an awful existence their living and my heart breaks for them bc I once was just like em. God please help the ones that want to be helped🙏
I'm not from Philly, but I was on drugs once, and wanted to be sober! I kept trying, and in my mind I knew if I stayed sober for one year I would be home free. With God's help I did it, but as i prayed I cried out to him. I've been drug, cigarette, and alcohol free since May of 2011. To get clean you have to want it. I pray God give them strength if they truly want to quit getting high.🙏
So true you have to want it to get off anything...since 2007 after a 12 Yr addiction I've been off Heroin, still someday it's a struggle....staying off it is the hardest part!! Especially with money in your pocket, with God's help everything is possible.
It's terrifying to know & think my sister used to be here. We are beyond blessed to have her in our lives still. She is now 2-3 yrs sober🤍 I love u & I'm so proud of u sis💜🌠
I have a yr and 3 months clean, but in my addiction I was homeless in Kensington and it's no joke. Only the strong survive and only the ones with the willpower to get clean and stay clean will. But I pray for them daily 🙏

During my addiction (2009-2012) I was homeless there for a little over 2 & 1/2 yrs living in the abandos...it was bad bk then, when the evenings came the police would chase all the addicts off Kensington Ave...but now it's unreal...it's like the cops just gave up on it all...that life is such a horrible existence!! So glad I'm no longer "stuck" there...I sincerely hope those addicts get help before it's to late!!

@@roskcity other people, friends, friends of friends...etc...etc! My daughter that is addicted to Fentynol and crack. She started by using pills Vicodin with a supposed friend, then many a day to Percocet then many a day then when it no longer was giving her the high or helping the addiction and got to expensive for her. She tried Heroine note: all is a opioid. then because of her drug use ran into other people that used and found out about these different drugs and tried them! They like the feeling of the high. That is part of the addiction and how is is normally starts. Then the body becomes so used to it that without it. They become very ill ( withdraws). They can't get off of it on their own most generally they need detox or rehab with a professional trained person to give them medicine to ween them off. Rehab to learn how to stay off and stay cleanp even though sometimes it takes people many tries before they actually get clean and stay clean it's a vicious cycle that's all I can say and actually for one you got to learn to stay away from old people places and things. some people go cold Turkey. But, can be very dangerous and life threatening due to puking and diarrhea can lead to dehydration without fluids and can lead to death. I pray everyday for my daughter to get the help she needs and that the next time she will stay clean.
It has been my dream to migrate to America for a greener pasture. Now, not anymore. I will remain in my country where my neighborhood is peaceful and does not have threats.
You absolutely right, we do recover... It's been 12 years now for me, and did it all on my own did 12 month longterm, came home after losing everything, and I mean everything, all I went in with was a garbage bag full of clothes, came out had a job in 2 weeks had my own apartment in 3 months, built my credit, got a truck, started a business and now I'm doing great 6 figures a year, if we put all of what we did why we were in the streets to getting drugs everyday, all the hussles to get money to buy drugs, and put it to sober life, you will be on top again, it's not hard, you have to want it, and work hard and have goals, knock them goals out one after another and the rest will follow, I slept in my car for 3 months till I could save for My apartment, I just bought my first house 2 years ago. Hard work and dedication, hopefully they find there way, you can't live in the past or dwell on your situation, get off your ass and go get it!!
Agreed I myself have been in this situation it's not easy . a lot of people who go homeless aren't addicted off the jump its something that comes after a while of dealing with such hardship. Its a lot easier to pass time by living in such fuckery while high. Not saying it's THE way but it's a way its just so hard being homeless so much suffering one goes tbrough. I use to live there back in the 1960's. Kensington Avenue was clean and filled with thriving businesses and shoppers, especially this time of year, the Avenue was decorated with lights and with Christmas music playing. some stores would sell live Christmas trees on the sidewalk and corners and as a young kid it was beautiful to see

We are visiting Philly for the 1st time with our kids. We are from rural North Carolina so this was shocking to see in person last night. I’m a 36 yo woman and never been around drugs or seen anyone on them. We aren’t in Kensington, but about 10 min away. There was someone hunched over right across our patio. I prayed and prayed for that man and kept checking on him. He eventually fell over and slept for hours. Got up sometime while we were all asleep and gone by morning. Gosh I’d love for everyone to not live like this. I pray for self control and victory over these demons ❤ what is also heartbreaking to see is those who are used to it and numb. Lots of healthy people walking and talking right past those who are messed up or hunched. I hope it always bothers me. I never want to be numb to such suffering!
Exactly. Drugs are being let in. Someone once said that society wouldn't function properly if their were no homeless or drugs. Which is disgusting in my opinion. That out look is very dark and evil. As someone who knows addiction first hand, it's not easy to get sober. But you have to hit rock bottom before it can happen and stick. Many years of recovery with no relapses here, so it's possible. Now I have a beautiful 14 month old daughter. She drives that want to never take a pill again.
These people needed a lot of support while growing up. At this point it is probably very unlikely they will return to a healthy lifestyle. Drugs take a toll on your physical body, your spirit, and mental health. They made their choice each and every time. Where was their family when they really needed the support?

I grew up everyday right next to my mother, brother and they did exactly this ,especially my mother. They both had/have trauma .It hurts to see this. These are hurt people with a story to tell. No one was listening.. No one truly wants to be like this . Their Pain has conquered their souls . I pray every last person on those streets suffering will overcome in Jesus name, Amen!🙏

It got more severe when her sister was murdered. She was in a mentally abusive marriage. She already suffered childhood neglect. It all plays a role. My brother was molested by s cousin. He suffers still. My cousin was brutally raped as a child she is a meth user. Everyone I know has a crazy story. Every person in this life handles their experience differently no matter how Similar we are . We are not all built the same. My life story would make you cry. I’m stronger then my family. I overcame it. We are not built the same. My mother is an addict again almost died while in psychosis. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen. I understand addiction so well. I’ve seen and experienced every addict. I promise. These people are hurting . That is not what they want. Listen to their story and I bet they want to change. It’s not easy for everyone. A support system is a must. Most of them have addicts for support or more traumatized families.. My mother looked just like that bent over nodding out. I grew up saving her life. It’s so hard. She’s like a ten year old stuck in time. Her husband breaks her down. I currently moved in with her to help her again. I don’t have the heart to abandon her. I know her story. I know what she really wants. It’s “healing to be heard”! I commend all the beautiful people who go out on these streets and give these people a voice. My family is broken full of addicts. It’s very hard to watch. Honestly their pain and the past holds them back from a successful life.I wish people could learn to not let their pain be the catalyst of their lives. I’ve had some terrible things happen to me myself. I chose to give that shame to the people who preyed on me. I didn’t choose it . Not everyone can do that! I raised myself. We are not all the same. I want to tell everyone of these people they are so worth this life. They are loved. You can wake up differently and train your mind to think differently. Facts!!!!Iim a sober minded person everyday. You can be high on life if you master within. You cannot do it without a great support system.

I went out there to hand out meals and try to get some of them help at the library a couple years ago, they’re beautiful people out there that just don’t even know how amazing they are but feel extremely lost and broken. I broke down multiple times, I am now watching it. I’ve never been one to do these substances but I understand what they do and have many dear to me that have gone through it. Love and care is always here, I will never reject those who want or need it.

I just left the area 11 months ago. I was hooked on dope/fentanyl for almost 20 years and at the end I was using tranq. My son found me down there and took me home with him 3 states away and I'm in a methadone clinic now. It's an awful existence their living and my heart breaks for them bc I once was just like em. God please help the ones that want to be helped🙏

I'm not from Philly, but I was on drugs once, and wanted to be sober! I kept trying, and in my mind I knew if I stayed sober for one year I would be home free. With God's help I did it, but as i prayed I cried out to him. I've been drug, cigarette, and alcohol free since May of 2011. To get clean you have to want it. I pray God give them strength if they truly want to quit getting high.🙏

During my addiction (2009-2012) I was homeless there for a little over 2 & 1/2 yrs living in the abandos...it was bad bk then, when the evenings came the police would chase all the addicts off Kensington Ave...but now it's unreal...it's like the cops just gave up on it all...that life is such a horrible existence!! So glad I'm no longer "stuck" there...I sincerely hope those addicts get help before it's to late!!

@@roskcity other people, friends, friends of friends...etc...etc! My daughter that is addicted to Fentynol and crack. She started by using pills Vicodin with a supposed friend, then many a day to Percocet then many a day then when it no longer was giving her the high or helping the addiction and got to expensive for her. She tried Heroine note: all is a opioid. then because of her drug use ran into other people that used and found out about these different drugs and tried them! They like the feeling of the high. That is part of the addiction and how is is normally starts. Then the body becomes so used to it that without it. They become very ill ( withdraws). They can't get off of it on their own most generally they need detox or rehab with a professional trained person to give them medicine to ween them off. Rehab to learn how to stay off and stay cleanp even though sometimes it takes people many tries before they actually get clean and stay clean it's a vicious cycle that's all I can say and actually for one you got to learn to stay away from old people places and things. some people go cold Turkey. But, can be very dangerous and life threatening due to puking and diarrhea can lead to dehydration without fluids and can lead to death. I pray everyday for my daughter to get the help she needs and that the next time she will stay clean.
It has been my dream to migrate to America for a greener pasture. Now, not anymore. I will remain in my country where my neighborhood is peaceful and does not have threats.

It's been 12 years now for me, and did it all on my own did 12 month longterm, came home after losing everything, and I mean everything, all I went in with was a garbage bag full of clothes, came out had a job in 2 weeks had my own apartment in 3 months, built my credit, got a truck, started a business and now I'm doing great 6 figures a year, if we put all of what we did why we were in the streets to getting drugs everyday, all the hussles to get money to buy drugs, and put it to sober life, you will be on top again, it's not hard, you have to want it, and work hard and have goals, knock them goals out one after another and the rest will follow, I slept in my car for 3 months till I could save for My apartment, I just bought my first house 2 years ago. Hard work and dedication, hopefully they find there way, you can't live in the past or dwell on your situation, get off your ass and go get it!!

We are visiting Philly for the 1st time with our kids. We are from rural North Carolina so this was shocking to see in person last night. I’m a 36 yo woman and never been around drugs or seen anyone on them. We aren’t in Kensington, but about 10 min away. There was someone hunched over right across our patio. I prayed and prayed for that man and kept checking on him. He eventually fell over and slept for hours. Got up sometime while we were all asleep and gone by morning. Gosh I’d love for everyone to not live like this. I pray for self control and victory over these demons ❤ what is also heartbreaking to see is those who are used to it and numb. Lots of healthy people walking and talking right past those who are messed up or hunched. I hope it always bothers me. I never want to be numb to such suffering!

Exactly. Drugs are being let in. Someone once said that society wouldn't function properly if their were no homeless or drugs. Which is disgusting in my opinion. That out look is very dark and evil. As someone who knows addiction first hand, it's not easy to get sober. But you have to hit rock bottom before it can happen and stick. Many years of recovery with no relapses here, so it's possible. Now I have a beautiful 14 month old daughter. She drives that want to never take a pill again.

It got more severe when her sister was murdered. She was in a mentally abusive marriage. She already suffered childhood neglect. It all plays a role. My brother was molested by s cousin. He suffers still. My cousin was brutally raped as a child she is a meth user. Everyone I know has a crazy story. Every person in this life handles their experience differently no matter how Similar we are . We are not all built the same. My life story would make you cry. I’m stronger then my family. I overcame it. We are not built the same. My mother is an addict again almost died while in psychosis. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen. I understand addiction so well. I’ve seen and experienced every addict. I promise. These people are hurting . That is not what they want. Listen to their story and I bet they want to change. It’s not easy for everyone. A support system is a must. Most of them have addicts for support or more traumatized families.. My mother looked just like that bent over nodding out. I grew up saving her life. It’s so hard. She’s like a ten year old stuck in time. Her husband breaks her down. I currently moved in with her to help her again. I don’t have the heart to abandon her. I know her story. I know what she really wants. It’s “healing to be heard”! I commend all the beautiful people who go out on these streets and give these people a voice. My family is broken full of addicts. It’s very hard to watch. Honestly their pain and the past holds them back from a successful life.I wish people could learn to not let their pain be the catalyst of their lives. I’ve had some terrible things happen to me myself. I chose to give that shame to the people who preyed on me. I didn’t choose it . Not everyone can do that! I raised myself. We are not all the same. I want to tell everyone of these people they are so worth this life. They are loved. You can wake up differently and train your mind to think differently. Facts!!!!Iim a sober minded person everyday. You can be high on life if you master within. You cannot do it without a great support system.

I went out there to hand out meals and try to get some of them help at the library a couple years ago, they’re beautiful people out there that just don’t even know how amazing they are but feel extremely lost and broken. I broke down multiple times, I am now watching it. I’ve never been one to do these substances but I understand what they do and have many dear to me that have gone through it. Love and care is always here, I will never reject those who want or need it.
