    'A theology of the universe' is such an apt descriptor for what the series is. Gilroy really managed to distill the core, fundamental aspects of the Star Wars franchise into Andor while superficially appearing to be a completely different genre, a different perspective of the same universe with Jedi and Sith and lightsaber fights.

    I love that “Andor” did a great with characters and with female characters in particular. Many films and shows make their female characters act masculine and it’s sorta “badass” but eventually it becomes a cliche. And here we have different interesting female characters who are all strong in their own right and they act like women.
    Genevieve shines as Mon Mothma, expressing how well Mon holds “behind enemy lines”, how smart and how lonely she is in her struggle. Denise also delivered an amazing performance. Yes, Dedra is evil, she really enjoys torturing but she’s not stereotypically evil - we see her admiring wise leadership of Partagaz and appreciating Syril saving her life. Adria was also really good as Bix, her chemistry with Diego was great, I’ve been rooting for her survival. And Fiona masterfully delivered one of the most inspiring speeches I’ve heard so far. This show deserves all the praise and all the love of SW community.

    I love how Dedra, despite being absolutely morally repulsive and physically unpleasant (not in the sense of looks, but facial expression, tone of voice and the way she carries herself) almost makes you root for a career-obsessed Imperial lackey for a moment. It's a testament at how good the show is at putting you in the shoes of even the villains and humanizing them without giving them some contrived sob backstory or whitewashing them. Which also underscores the theme of how fascist regimes operate and condition people to commit horrific acts in their name. They really made use of their ensemble cast to great effect.

    ANDOR: context and substance over spectacle. Never thought I'd see this again in any STAR WARS live action project after PHANTOM MENACE. There were beautiful glimpses in ROGUE ONE, but even that eventually fell into spectacle, Ejoyable spectacle, but spectacle nonetheless.

    • @ImVeryOriginal
      @ImVeryOriginal Год назад +1

      Yeah, I was so disappointed Rogue One really only paid lip service to the idea of the Rebellion not being all squeaky clean and morally righteous. Cassian's first scene, in which he shoots his own informant to keep the secrecy, was the most memorable part of the film. Andor really fleshes this out, doing everything that Rogue One dropped the ball on (a heist sequence that actually shows the plan beforehand!), and then some. It's a far cry from the fun adventure romp that Star Wars is primarily known to be, but also some of the most intelligent, compelling writing in the series.
