The Rito not expecting Kass to return to the village after the storm clearing up could also be explained by him leaving on a journey before the Upheaval, so he was already gone and wouldn't be expected back yet. My favorite theory is that Kass was going to be used to set the DLC that they decided not to do. He was heavily associated with the BotW DLC and the way Penn's story ends really suggested we were going to get more Kass imo.
Nintendo never said they were not going to do a DLC, just that at the time they had no plans for one, its been months, plans can change, were approaching the 1 year anniversary of TOTK in a couple months (which is crazy) so I wouldnt rule out a DLC quite yet

I think there's a theory that Kass is also a tropical Rito so he's not originally from the Hyrulean Rito tribe. He's a type of macaw so his constant traveling could be explained due to that. While they have stated they won't be doing DLC, I hope we get a directors cut of the game for Switch 2 that has a little more stuff in it.
The walking back on darker themes seems possible, the fandom loves to forget the game got developed in the middle of *global pandemic* that killed a lot of people, they might have thought the story of the game would hit too close to home if they kept the deaths resulting from a nationwide catastrophe. Considering how anime originals outright cancel darker episodes if they happen close to tragedies, I wouldn't be surprised if that was indeed the case
Zelda does mention in the beginning that people have become sick because of the gloom. There's also that one quest in Kakariko where someone got sick from the gloom. I think it's quite likely that the gloom sickness was supposed to be more substantial, but because of Covid they decided to remove most of it.
NDA's may have kept Nintendo from saying they are planning on DLC's I cant tell you how many games I have played where the developers say they have no plans for more and then end up releasing more. Most times I think this sort of misdirection is fronted to the public to get the snoops and stress off the developers backs so they can just make what they want without a supposed deadline.
Ironically, my main reason for thinking this isn't true is that it's not somber enough. If Kass was around (not journeying elsewhere) and disappeared, I'd definitely expect him to be brought up in mourning at least once. Especially once Link shows back up, he was Links friend after all. You'd think someone would say something directly to Link about it.
One of my major issues with TotK is that it's suppose to be a sequel, but it heavily leaves out a lot of stuff from BotW, even the major things like Kass and doesn't continue upon plots or characters from BotW unless they're major, but even then Sages are pretty eh, Sidon/Yunobo were better written in BotW. We can only theorize, when the game should just give us answers to due to it being a sequel. It almost makes it feel that TotK is it's own alternate universe from BotW with how it's set up.
That's because, to a degree, it is! Zelda's travel to the past and telling the first king of Hyrule about events in her time like the Calamity influenced current events. While this technically doesn't make sense if you really break it down, time travel and its influence on the continuity have never worked logically in the LoZ franchise, and so it's like the Calamity still happened but in a vestigial way like some kind of time-echo. It's the reason all of the ancient Sheikah devices are just...gone, including the Guardians and Divine Beasts. Zelda surely told Rauru all about it and they were like "Oh we should make sure to leave a record for people later to NOT bother building those." But we do still have the ONE Guardian strapped to the top of the Akkala lab. Many have theorized that the Guardian remains were all cannibalized to make the Skyview Towers, but many of the remains were in VERY remote locations and there were simply so many of them that they would have had a lot left over if this were the case. It seems as though, due to Zelda's use of time magic with the Secret Stone, she caused a weird limbo timeline where the Calamity "happened but simultaneously also didn't."

I didn't even think about him, the one you see the most though is Beedle, whom actually follows you not just through BotW, but to other games. TotK certainly has more characters like that though.
I agree, but with one small correction. all the rito know the song of the stormwind ark and talk about it like an old tale they all grew up hearing, even the adults. they talked about it and reacted in disbelief at the idea of it being real in the same way we all would over say, the tooth fairy. some of the kids still believe in it, but most see it as nothing more than a fairy tale told to children. Kass wouldn't have been the one to discover it and teach it to everyone if all the adults also grew up with it. I think it's more proof of why Kass was so drawn to the songs of his teacher. musical legends is a deep part of rito culture that he just couldn't resist. and when shit started happening, and he remembered how all the songs he learned really did have meaning, he like everyone else looked at the storm and remembered the stormwind ark, which in the absence of his friend and Hyrule's hero, made him make his own attempt at following the song's guidance only to be hurt by the winds too strong for him, or possibly attacked on his way by a suddenly much stronger monster, and lost his life there. and I'm betting no one has the heart to tell Link he's gone. or, they're so focused on everything else, they forgot that no one told him. Wow it really makes it more impactful just like you said if Ganondorf killed Kass. I always liked him but it never occured to me that Kass was the only one who traveled WITH us or even guided us throughout Breath of the Wild. Before I knew Kass had a family I was begining to think Kass was a ghost connected to the Shrines we did know he was taught by a Shikea, that he would only appear to guide us to shrines, and that he somehow had the legendary picture in the DLC. But now that I know he has a family your therory makes more sense. Still I hope Tears of the Kingdom does get a DLC where Kass is only trapped somewhere when he investigated the blizzard.
In a way it does make sense that Cass would have made it his own mission to investigate the stormwind arc, especially if link was gone for several weeks or months. I would imagine that Cass would have been one of the few people who would know almost immediately that link and Zelda were gone (given that he can just fly to visit the two of he wanted), and since link is a puzzle solver and taught cast how to solve many of the puzzles found in Cass's past songs, Cass probably thought that it would be a good idea to solve the stormwind Arc puzzle himself. I believe that the cannons at the side of the ark were the ones that ended up doing cass in, or any of the factory constructs. Maybe it wasn't even either of those and he just died because he is a bird and birds have hollow bones 😔
@@hchatnation Yet it's weird there wouldn't be any grave or memorial to aknowledge such a loyal royal minstrel like himself especially with Zelda around to show respect to one of the most loyal subjects in the kingdom. To me it only makes sense that he took a trip elsewhere because of the changing weather in reference to him been a _migratory bird_ like Penn (an albatross) which forces him to move about according to the changing weather.
I don’t know what happened to Kass, but if there’s anything I learned from Nintendo the past few years, it’s that they like to add the missing reoccurring characters from the original game to the inevitable DLC. (i.e. Animal New Horizons with Brewster and Redd)
i only want dlc for kass. so sad not to see him back. i know he was only a mechanic for the shrines, but he could have been the one to teach us the song of the stormwind arch
I don't think Kass is dead. It's hard to be sure because Nintendo clearly didn't keep canon tight. Bolson doesn't know who you are, despite Hudson having built tarry town. But it's strange that none of the Rito would tell you Kass vanished or died. Assuming you did Champion's Ballad, you would be very close to Kass and also therefore familiar with his family. You would have saved Rito village once before. Why wouldn't they tell you that something happened to him? My guess is that he left rito village, either to try to find the Stormwind Ark, or some info about it; or before everything went down. Penn talks about him like he doesn't know where he went, and Penn operates close enough to Rito village that he should have heard if the legendary bard went missing or died there. Imo all signs point to the fact that Kass left before shit went down.
Great theory! Thank you for sharing I believe that, since Zelda rewrote parts of history (substituting Sheikah for Zonai) and the new timeline merge caused the Upheavel, Kass just doesn't need to exist as a bard who passed on Sheikah clues to the Hero. Maybe in this new world, Kass is Penn.
Lol that sounds a little too convoluted and unbelievable to be plausible. It's far more realistic that due to the changing of the seasons (Spring in BotW and Summer in TotK) Kass was forced to _migrate_ to another region of the world where the weather was more suitable for his body. This explains why Amali and her children have absolutely nothing to say regarding their husband's status been fully aware he migrated to another land until the Summer was over and he could finally return once the weather became temperate again.
interesting theory buuut.... Penn mentions he goes to the hill a "legendary bard" used to practice on. So Kass is still the Kass we would know in this timeline
It would be neat if he came back for a DLC. I definitely agree on these two likelihoods but of course it would be great if he was able to return. Perhaps he was more impacted by the cold and had to migrate, for instance. Or maybe he went looking for answers or to find Link and Zelda in the sky islands. Besides, I would hope he would get more than a few mildly suggestive mentions if he really did make such a sacrifice in the effort to help his village.
This would make sence, it was stated that no rito could get close without making it out of the storm. Except Tulin bc he is just build different, R.I.P Kass. Btw the other day i found something they put in totk, if you go below kass little hideout in totk you will find one of those ascend spots like the one below krorok forest and the dualing peeks.
Hey man, ive seen a ton of zelda theories videos and let me just say that at least you make yours short, sweet, to the piont and back it up heavily with thia one. Good job and ill sub just to see more.
If you'll stand on top of the Perch(Rito Village).. and look up in the Stormwind Ark, I think you'll noticed that its a parrot.. and if you'll look closely you'll noticed there are a flock of giant birds flying up the sky. Those flock of birds(Ships) is pointing a direction..
I imagine there was a lot more about Kass in TOTK, but someone high up decided to pull him, and his name was removed from all references because he was no longer in the game.
Great channel and theory! Just a tip, try to speak more clearly in your videos! You have great potential and I’m looking forward to seeing your channel grow :)

Heartily agree. A wife perhaps in denial that her husband is dead, will not speak of him but perhaps keep a tidy home *just in case* he returns. Kids who aren't sure either way may do the same or pretend he is still travelling.
Nintendo said we were done with this version of Hyrule, but they never said we were done with this version of Link. It’d be cool if we got another sequel where Link travelled to another land kind of like how Majoras Mask was the same link from ocarina of time. Then they’d probably want a character or 2 from botw/totk hyrule to make a cameo as a nice little Easter egg. Maybe they intentionally kept Kass out of the game while being vague about where he is with that in mind.
Sure, you can make up headcanons but I'm much more interested in why the developers decided to get rid of him as if they specifically disliked him but really wanted to make sure we remembered characters like Hudson
My theory on kass is he went up to investigate the blizzard but when he flew up one of the sky islands fell on him injuring his wings and he died of fall damage
Didn't the lady at the newspaper place say something about Penn going to that spot to meet up with someone? It's been a while so I don't remember super well, but I swear she described Kass even though she didn't use his name.
I was really disappointed to find out that Kass wasn’t in Tears of the Kingdom, but I like to think he was chilling outside of Hyrule when the Upheavel happened and couldn’t get back into the kingdom because of something to do with Ganondorf.
Shrine quests in TOTK are SO BORING, 90% of them is just retrieving some green rock to an altar. The whole time I was solving these I missed Kass quests more and more. Ngl, Kass is what I missed the most from BOTW, hearing him in the distance was a pleasure cuz it meant there was something interesting in that direction, him playing at the stables made them cozier too. They could at least have him be part of the stable trotters. The fact they brought back EVERY NPC from the previous game EXCEPT Kass baffles me, more than that, I actually get angry just thinking about it.
I suppose the reason why Cass's disappearance is ambiguous is because there's a chance people never met Cass in their BOTW playthroughs, but the answer is still there for veterans to uncover. Also, have you checked under every one of the fallen boulders for a pair of bird feet? _Those dang things falling from the sky are dangerous!_
I'd like to think that Kass wasn't included because it's likely he would remember Link and maybe the developers didn't want that inconsistency with any npc other than the main ones... [Though Kass is a main npc in all of our hearts 😭‼️]
After hearing this I thought what if the other rito and zora types come from how or where they live as in cold areas they grow with a heavier set of feathers and in tropical reigons they are short featherd like Kass and different beaks like Penn
I honestly think they are ashamed of him and are glad to be able to be rid of him honestly. I mean if you think about it, he knocks up his wife with FIVE kids, looks at the unfinished work of his teacher and more or less goes out for milk and cigarettes in the middle of the night.
@@THEFINALHAZARD That’s the worst take I’ve ever heard about anything ever honestly. He went out to complete his teacher’s legacy! I’m sure his wife was more than supportive of such an important dream. Plus you know he goes back home right? After you do all his shrine quests?
@@KHCoasterKid don’t care, y’all are just Kass simps XD yes I know he goes home after. However throughout the quest line he’s always going on about how he misses his family. Dad of the year right there. That irl would get you loss of custody most likely.
??? that makes absolutely no sense and is just an excuse for bad writing. if they were so upset that he died you would see one of them being a little sad or something. instead they act like absolutely nothing is wrong, lol. you have to be joking
Okay... but one thing is still off about this theory. If he died in the storm while trying to solve the riddle, then how did he have time to teach the song to his daughter? Did his book fell off the sky and his wife just found it laying around? Doesn't makes much sense for him to die in the storm and then letting his family know about it, followed by no one mentioning his disappearence afterwards.
@@thomazplays9305 Well, the song had existed since ancient times. So my thinking is Kass was aware of the song. Doesn’t have to be before or after the blizzard. He connects the dots that the legend offers a solution and that the Ark is probably up in the storm. He goes to track it down and…. Point being, he was almost assuredly aware of the song before heading out in search of the ark. Otherwise I don’t think he would’ve gone looking for it.
Without Kass, we wouldn’t get an extra confirmation of Princess Zelda’s love for Link.
I’m getting tired of all these loopholes in the story, and leaving us to have to figure out what happened between each game by ourselves.
Some little connections is fine. But there's just too many _big_ issues.
This was such a good theory 🤝 but it’s so sad 😭
Thank you! and it is, but I just can't accept that he happens to be on vacation or something lol
Kass was the one character I was looking forward to revisiting in TotK. The moment I realized he was absent was devastating to me :(
I don’t know what happened to Kass, but if there’s anything I learned from Nintendo the past few years, it’s that they like to add the missing reoccurring characters from the original game to the inevitable DLC. (i.e. Animal New Horizons with Brewster and Redd)
I just listened to the colgera theme and there is a very subtle use of the concertina kass uses, another hint of what happened :o :c
I love this theory. Maybe one day, with a remaster or a remake we will get a little extra content that would tie up the loose ends. ❤
WHERE IS MY BOY???
He’s literally been my pfp since botw came out 😭
I was SO disappointed when I found out in game he’s not there anymore
I really enjoyed this one! Thank you for making an awesome video.
i only want dlc for kass. so sad not to see him back. i know he was only a mechanic for the shrines, but he could have been the one to teach us the song of the stormwind arch
I refuse to believe Kass is dead, i will continue to live in a state of permanent denial
Me too 😢
Kass’s appearance reminds me of Blu from Rio for some reason
This was a really good video! I liked it!
Kass is not in TOTK because he wasn't annoying enough so they replaced him with the traveling troupe.
If this is correct, the fact that i needed a video after hubdreds of hours to understand it, means the developers failed at telling this story.
He flew south for the winter
Great theory! Thank you for sharing
I believe that, since Zelda rewrote parts of history (substituting Sheikah for Zonai) and the new timeline merge caused the Upheavel, Kass just doesn't need to exist as a bard who passed on Sheikah clues to the Hero.
That's an interesting theory.
interesting theory buuut.... Penn mentions he goes to the hill a "legendary bard" used to practice on. So Kass is still the Kass we would know in this timeline
Except history wasn't rewritten as the Calamity is still referenced in TOTK
It would be neat if he came back for a DLC. I definitely agree on these two likelihoods but of course it would be great if he was able to return. Perhaps he was more impacted by the cold and had to migrate, for instance. Or maybe he went looking for answers or to find Link and Zelda in the sky islands. Besides, I would hope he would get more than a few mildly suggestive mentions if he really did make such a sacrifice in the effort to help his village.
This would make sence, it was stated that no rito could get close without making it out of the storm. Except Tulin bc he is just build different, R.I.P Kass.
Btw the other day i found something they put in totk, if you go below kass little hideout in totk you will find one of those ascend spots like the one below krorok forest and the dualing peeks.
that's so ungodly half assed i have no idea how you could ever believe it
@@carnage0685 because the game is pointing right at it…
@@link8296 no it's not because Tulin was fine lol
@@carnage0685 you could argue less drag and Tulin apparently having a explained and an unexplained connection to the forces of the wind.
I was hoping there would be DLC where we tracked him down since he was basically the main character in the BotW DLC
Hey man, ive seen a ton of zelda theories videos and let me just say that at least you make yours short, sweet, to the piont and back it up heavily with thia one. Good job and ill sub just to see more.
Thanks! It’s feedback like this that keeps me going
I initially thought he was travelling, for I did not take in references to Kass, then this video hits me like a brick
Excellent video! Can you tell me what music you used for the background about 1:50 or so? It sounds like the windwaker but slowed reverb lofi or something. I haven't been able to find it on my own yet though.
It's the Frozen Rito Village Theme, it plays before you save Rito Village from the cyclone when it's still covered in snow. ruclips.net/video/SOjlFcZkR30/видео.htmlsi=E3IfQTzOvnV9mcRt
It's the Rito Village theme under the blizzard. Unfortunately, once you complete the rito quest line the track is lost in game
Thanks! I didn't seem to recognize it.
Heartily agree. A wife perhaps in denial that her husband is dead, will not speak of him but perhaps keep a tidy home *just in case* he returns. Kids who aren't sure either way may do the same or pretend he is still travelling.
12:00 Nah bro left out my man beedle
Nintendo said we were done with this version of Hyrule, but they never said we were done with this version of Link. It’d be cool if we got another sequel where Link travelled to another land kind of like how Majoras Mask was the same link from ocarina of time. Then they’d probably want a character or 2 from botw/totk hyrule to make a cameo as a nice little Easter egg. Maybe they intentionally kept Kass out of the game while being vague about where he is with that in mind.
Everyone: what happened to him?
Nintendo: he died.
Sure, you can make up headcanons but I'm much more interested in why the developers decided to get rid of him as if they specifically disliked him but really wanted to make sure we remembered characters like Hudson
I think Nitendo just simply wrote him out without any explaination. GRRRRR
My theory on kass is he went up to investigate the blizzard but when he flew up one of the sky islands fell on him injuring his wings and he died of fall damage
minecraft fall sound?
Awwwww!!! Excellent analysis.
Didn't the lady at the newspaper place say something about Penn going to that spot to meet up with someone? It's been a while so I don't remember super well, but I swear she described Kass even though she didn't use his name.
Beetle travelled and keeps traveling as well
Great video this is now canon
Every Rito adult went to buy supplies. Kass decided to buy the milk. Simple as that.
I can't believe they're not doing DLC. We need master mode!
This video is amazing. ❤Kass
I kinda wish this theory was true. The amount of guts it would take to officially kill off a fan favorite character from the previous game.
Im crying ): i miss kass.
I'd like to think that Kass wasn't included because it's likely he would remember Link and maybe the developers didn't want that inconsistency with any npc other than the main ones... [Though Kass is a main npc in all of our hearts 😭‼️]
The real reason is because Aonuma and the Zelda dev team didn't give a shit. TOTK has terrible lore and continuity.
After hearing this I thought what if the other rito and zora types come from how or where they live as in cold areas they grow with a heavier set of feathers and in tropical reigons they are short featherd like Kass and different beaks like Penn
I've got a crush on Kass
Realistically i think he was written up for either a quest they decided not to do or death. There is no way they just forgot him.
Nice theory, makes sense.
I miss Kass 😢
And it would explain why no one talks abt him, bc they are so upset at his death they dont want to bring it up
I honestly think they are ashamed of him and are glad to be able to be rid of him honestly.
So why not go back to his *wife and five children he made*? Oh. Because his teacher died and he feels some sort of obligation to finish his work. Which when you get down to it, is s a piece of music. Dad of the year right there. That irl would get you loss of custody most likely.
??? that makes absolutely no sense and is just an excuse for bad writing. if they were so upset that he died you would see one of them being a little sad or something. instead they act like absolutely nothing is wrong, lol. you have to be joking
I think bro just went to get the milk 💀💀💀💀
Nice theory but my heart can't take it, Kass is just in another kingdom to me
I hope there will be dlc that brings Kass back
IMO Nintendo missed the mark as regard to Kass is concerned, No Kass? No DLC?? TOTK IMO IS GIGO!
Do you think that Kass is connected to the Song of Storms in oot?
The fact his own wife never comments on his absence is very strange to me. #JusticeForKass
Serves as a reminder that ganon does not care what you think, and is pure evil.
#bring_back_Kass_in_totk
He appeared in too much rule 34 and they felt like they could get rid of him (unlike bowser for instance)
What if Kass was just never in the same place as you?
Okay... but one thing is still off about this theory.
He would have shared the song/legend before he left?
@@hchatnation but didn't he went to the storm in order to find/write the song and died while on the go?
@@thomazplays9305 Well, the song had existed since ancient times. So my thinking is Kass was aware of the song. Doesn’t have to be before or after the blizzard. He connects the dots that the legend offers a solution and that the Ark is probably up in the storm. He goes to track it down and….
Point being, he was almost assuredly aware of the song before heading out in search of the ark. Otherwise I don’t think he would’ve gone looking for it. In BotW, Kass knew the song, and the place it referred to. Same story here
@@hchatnation yeah that might be right. still doesnt explain why nobody talks about his disappearance, but that's probably just nintendo treating him the same way they treated the sheikah towers and shrines.
Considering how BS a lot of the writing was in TotK, I'm of the opinion that Nintendo just didn't want him in the game, and had zero narrative reasons for it.
I prefer the theory that Kass died peacefully. before the upheaval.
RIP kass :(
Where are the champions of Hyrule in tears of the kingdom?
Facts
or penn is kass but morphed in to a new rito
It's not just Kass--there's one other character who travels the world along with Link...Beedle!
Noooo kass..
