One of the few people to win a belt without knowing it. Had to be such an amazing authentic feeling.
This feels like the exact opposite of the screw job.
Wish they did more with him😢😢
I really did not appreciate Shelton during his run, I was so wrong.
Yeh that must've been such an awesome moment for him. I bet Jericho had actually planned to not kick out from the very beginning too, just to help him out. WWE's executive and writing staff have a bit of a history with racism and I bet Jericho knew he had a great opportunity to help Benjamin out before Vince and the writers tried to screw him over.
Thats pretty cool. I didnt even think of that. WWE should do more match bookings like that.
Benjamin was such an underrated under utilized talent
He was NOT underrated at all.
He was the US, intercontinental and tag-team champion.
But he was under utilized.
He was also getting set up to have a world title run at one point. Unfortunately Vince shot it down because: 1) He didn't really have a gimmick at the time (which Vince didn't like), and 2) he was having issues back stage with more veteran wrestlers, though I don't remember the specifics. In any case, he is one of the best wrestlers of all time to never win a world title.
He genuinely needed a manager, thats quite literally it. Almost everything is great but fuck his promos just suck so bad!!! The instant i hear him talk im disinterested. EVERY FAN of Shelton Benjamins literally forget this. This is why he never got his push.
They ruined him with the whole mama thing. They made him too comedic and whiny and it felt lame.
hhh and vince likely had something do with
"I didn't know I was winning until Jericho didn't kick out " that feeling must have been wild❤
Jericho knew it'd be beneficial if he put over the young star
Or Terrifying. If that was me I'd have thought we'd screwed up
Ayo
Should be like that more often
Would have felt great and then thinking of the possibility of "Fuck I hurt him real bad" or "Fuck did the referee fuck up?!"
Props for them not rigging the vote and staying loyal to the outcome
Unfortunately most cases after this the vote choices were usually the one they expect you to pick vs far worse options.
Who was not going to vote Steve Austin as the Referee?
Eventually the choices were akin to:
A. Street Fight
B. Hardcore Match
C. No Holds Barred
D. No DQ
Jericho will always be the GOAT because of his willingness to help and elevate everyone else working with him.
You just described The Rock, who was infinitely better than Jericho in every way.
Most if not all those guys from the wwf days were like that. Still never knew how Vince got his ENTIRE family to participate
@@quentinkaasa47No, Rock was not as good a technical worker as Jericho. Also Jericho has done it for longer.
@@quentinkaasa47 The only thing the Rock was better at was selling.
@@ThePakman90He's probably a classic Dark Triad personality type and finds himself surrounded by people with very small egos. Well, except that he obviously likes people with big egos (and making them look stupid) because of his choice of business.
Knowing that this match wasn't scripted, it felt like a genuine match with a real authentic winner reaction
Lol at ‘wasn’t scripted’. You guys are adorable.
Apart from the scripted moves which look hilariously bad btw
@@Jimbobiscuitno
Its been revealed that this was indeed scripted including the "its not scripted" narrative. 😢
@unsolicitedditkapics9722 well damn, ah well it was still awesome

that’s basically almost a real match man that’s wild
For real tho!!!

It's how wrestling used to be, and should still be.
@@happytrailsgaming yes lol

Gotta love Jericho for helping so many careers blossomed, nobodies perfect but you hear so many good things about him throughout his career..nothing but love man ❤🎉
Jericho beat the Rock and Austin on the same day. A gift like that, you gotta give everything to anyone. Jericho is my top 5 favorite and best wrestler and personality in wrestling history. The man is a genius.

@@Nikelaos_Khristianoshe makes others look good. But the outcome was still decided by Vince, not Jericho
@@arostwocentsyet there were wrestlers who didn’t drop the belt even when told, Jericho did it without hesitation
I remember this, Jericho said in his book when Shelton found out he was winning the IC title during the match he couldn't stop smiling on camera 😂
SEND FOR THE MAN
Jericho has his book
Honestly he was probably smiling because he thought he'd start to get more on screen time which meant more money.
@@nasdaq517 Never mind that shit: HERE COMES MONGO!

One of the wrestlers I really wish got a world title run, the guy is a wrestling machine
Team Angle was a godly tag team.

Guy made so many matches fun. That legendary run up the ladder
“World title” brah a world title is something you win. How can it feel good when someone literally lets you win? I didn’t even like it when my big bro would let me win when I was a child. Yet alone grown ass man
JR made these moments. Jim Freakin Ross. The way he called matches made them legendary.
Benjamin was so under rated he really deserved a massive push
Jericho is a great heel but he will put anyone over and still perform like a champion. One of the greatest of all time.
Triple H should definitely bring this back

The fans would vote for Johnny Gargano
They should but won’t. Vince would throw a fit because fans would not choose who he wants

I don't get it, why?

SB’s move set was amazing, dude was so damn athletic!
I Used him alot in the SvR video games cuz of his moveset.
Shelton Benjamin and John Morrison are arguably 2 of the best *athletes* the sport has ever seen, should have been utilized better than they were💯
Jesus Christ someone who knows John Morrisons talents, kudos brother.
Starship Pain is one of my favorite finishers, such a unique move and Morrisons moveset is insane.
@@galaxyswapper817 JoMo is awesome👌
@@jonathanking8429 do you remember what his name was before it was Morrison? It was Johnny Nitro.
Don't forget to include Kurt Angle too. He did win a real Olympic gold medal, I just wish Shelton and John were pushed as hard as Kurt
@galaxyswapper817 His knees though, they've gotta have zero cartilage left. 😫
Shelton is one of the most underrated Wrestlers. His Athleticism is top tier. WWE missing out on not promoting a phenomenal talent. He could’ve been like the Jon Jones of WWE if they marketed him right.
Think it was his mic work that held him back.
Yes..he didn’t have a personality for gab. They could of had him just silent and intimidating. It’s too bad though.
No mic skills.
So you give him a manger to do the talking and train him til he gets better
@@charliedulin 🎯 same as they did with Brock Lesnar. Jon Jones isn’t much of a talker either.
Even when the match ain't predetermined, Jericho always finds a way to put his opponents over. A true professional and a real class act. What a goat!!
Need more matches like this. Gives room for surprises and creativity. Gives it a different feeling.
That's what gets me, this is the way wrestling used to be done and the matches looked like actual contests.
Nightmare for the writers though and story development if they never know what is happening, would be like trying to do the marvel universe with no script just actors, would be awful 😂
@@TonyHavenMusicyeah, but having it maybe once or twice a year and using it to jumpstart stories would be nice
Good because he was the best wrestler out of all the picks. Fans really knew back then!
And why they won't bring it back. LA Knight would be like Shelton
Frfr every one of his matches was just watch
Benjamin was one of the best of his era. Such a shame he never took a world title.
Being in the same OVW "class" as Cena, Batista, Brock, and Orton left him kind of lost in the shuffle.
@@Starsaber222 very true but also I believe vince didn't see him as a top guy. I thought for sure he'd win it one day after being with kurt angle with their run together on team angle.

We need Taboo Tuesday and Cyber Sunday back... Those PPV were super awesome
Wasn't Cyber Sunday just Taboo Tuesday but on Sunday? These days it would probably be Cyber Saturday.
@@afrodesiac8064, yeah. It was. And I don't care if it will be called Cyber Saturday, just bring it back. The matches on these PPV were awesome
Vince is back, so every match would be Roman winning
I wouldn't mind it if they were going to be honest about the polls, etc.
Shelton was the total package. He deserved to win the heavyweight title multiple times
Hell yeah he did! He was one of them guys that no matter who he faced I was always in his corner. He had some fresh moves too and some of the stuff he would do off the turn buckle he could fly through the air and yeah man seriously under utilized.
If he was even slightly more exciting on the mic, he would have been, I'm sure.
Still a legend of the industry.
He was bad on the mike
They need to bring this back. 100%
Yeah? One good thing came out of it. The 4 years it was aired for ppv this one thing came out of it. It was one of the lowest bought ppvs and had some of the worst matches because everything was improvised. Fans indirectly said they hated it.
@rain4242 I would say this really shows who the truly talented wrestlers are. No scripts just improve and talent!
For an improvised IC title match? That was a super solid display of talent. From the fact of zero rehearsal to he fact no one knew the finish? Just insane
Sheldon’s t-bone was the smoothest thing I’ve ever seen
WWE: "Why would they pick a wrestler" 🤷♂️
Nah it was more they were so confident Batista was gonna win because of popularity
Of course they didn’t consider Shelton has a lot of fans at the time too because of his in ring skill
@@melecio9423 Benjamin was more popular going into that PPV
@@jamaali2358 Going into it, at least.
In terms of "all-time", Batista definitely was more popular then.
@Senator Armstrong Benjamin had a solid 2004 and even had a segment with Vince were he came out on top and won the fans going into the PPV, Batista got momentum after survivor series and was red hot going into 2005
During this time, Evolution was crumbling. Every member JUST dropped all 4 titles, there was no way the fans were gonna let someone who was already in the works to get a title shot, get a title shot.
Shelton was also the babyface that "helped" break down Evolution with Benoit, Edge, and Foley.
Part of me wants them to bring the concept back mainly to see how the fans can troll the company
They would probably just fabricate results based on who they want to win.
"4chan had an idea."
Jericho is SUCH an underrated wrestler - especially when it came to mentoring and putting people over.
He’s considered a goat how is he Underrated at all
Hes literally considered to be the best ever.
@@ThebluishbearBy who?
Underrated at what? Acting? Wrestling fans man...
I love the sound of the ref slapping the mat it's so crisp
Jericho was such a great wrestler. I had no idea in those days. Great guy.
LOL I remember reading this in the book and iirc he even had to ask Shelton what was his finisher during a lockup.
Shelton was a great wrestler. He deserved this and more.
Shelton is seriously underrated.
He was never the same after a legit KO from Michael’s Super Kick. They planned a spot where He propelled off the top rope and receives a Super Kick.. only it genuinely connected amd put him out for quite a while. He never had the same balance after that
The evolution of this channel is literally inspiring man🎉❤.
You guys nailed this, also by touching on so many topics that are prevalent nowadays.
Best concept ever, it should come back. Keeps everyone on their toes the workers included.
So a real match occured that night in a sense
Whole thing was called on the fly from bell to bell and was a really good match too
I was such a big fan of Shelton. That short feud he had with Shawn Michaels and HHH, I truly believed he was gonna win the World Heavyweight Championship. That belt sure does belongs to Batista but I think Shelton would have been suitable in it too. What a missed opportunity 💔
I still recall that streak where Shelton kept beating Triple H on RAW every week, and Evolution couldn't interfere because Trips thought he could beat him on his own but he never did, and eventually he had them jump Shelton when he couldn't get it done
Oh shut up
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy cause there are some wrestlers that hate to lose obviously
Shelton & Bobby never age .
Black don't crack
Just went back and watched this entire match.. for it to be on the fly is crazy because this was such a good match.. For the entire match to be improvised is just 🤯
Jericho and my sister had a brief fling in the ‘90s… tbh even given the fleeting nature of his visits and the obvious short-term nature of the situation, he was always sincere and respectful. He is a real one!
Man Jerico looked like God from Asgard back in the day. Man always had the charisma of a demi-god
The trust he had for Benjamin to just jump and let him do his move without knowing. Shelton has always been an under rated talent.
I remember that match and it was awesome. Two incredibly talented wrestlers, and I had no idea til now it wasnt entirely scripted!
Wish they did this more often. Its so nice to see a genuine reaction
Shelton Benjamin - one of the most underrated wrestlers. People should not forget he too was in that epic OVW Class Of 2002.
Lesner, Cena, Batista, Orton and Benjamin. Now there's an epic Survivor Series team
They need way more matches like this now
Shelton deserves so much more.
Yeah Shelton really was an underrated wrestler
He must have felt like a kid opening up a Christmas present he badly wanted that day.
Shelton Benjamin is so underrated dude is sucha gifted athlete.
That T-Bone Suplex was clean! 🔥
Shelton is so underrated wish the used him right. They should make Shelton and Brock tag Champs again that would be wild
Deserves a whole lot more than what they gave him
Jericho is such a talent and an authentic dude man.
When I was a kid I loved Shelton Benjamin. Brought back memories of playing his character on the PlayStation
That reaction after wining was 100% authentic! Nice!
The fact that one of his title isnt even predetermined and is with jericho, wwe already accidentally shown shelton potential but still chose to ignore him😔
I believe they didn’t tell Shelton, but the “fan poll” was definitely still fixed
Couldn't wwe just rig the poll? Nobody could tell
Right, imagine standing true to a real poll in a scripted sport. Lol
The fans would know, the backlash would of been the first thing to peel back the curtain of kayfabe, at least that what I think
@@RememberPOGS how would they know who got voted? Nobody knows what other strangers vote for except themselves and maybe if they asked friends
@@Virttreks when another wrestler would have entered, instead of Shelton, and the whole arena booed, it could show the poll was rigged at least to some extent
@@dvwsonwvss3r666 but the polls were for the whole world, not just the stadium, I remember they had a number you could text to cast your vote
Gotta also love the trust Chris gives Shelton for the T-Bone, having no idea what he was in for besides _a_ bump. Not even a specific kind of bump, just _a_ bump.
This is wild! Need to do more of this, yes it’s risky, but could add that element of surprise, at least to those select few matches
This is why Jericho is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time
Losing a match makes him one of the greatest? 🧐
@@holdmyweight3597 nope he is actually the GOAT
They need more matches like that.
The closest thing we ever got to a match that wasn’t 100% predetermined.
This match gave me a whole new meaning to watch again
This is why its important to always show up for work. Your day is coming. Unless you dont show up.
As an improv wrestler it really is a a great feeling
Shelton Benjamin is one of the most underrated WWE stars in history, such a incredible athlete, always puts on fun matches, happy 20th WWE anniversary.
That’s just pure chemistry and talent to pull that off.
After Shelton had that epic match on Raw with Shawn Michaels, it surprised me way less than it did the WWE that Shelton was chosen by the fans.
It's really amazing how they are all able to improvise and put together matches the way they do.
This should honestly be how more matches are. Especially for mid-card matches and titles.
During the month, once or twice a week, open polls with 4-6 options for match ideas, stipulations, etc to narrow down the selection. Then last week of the month, open voting one last time and have the fans pick at the last minute what it will be. The ref can flip a coin as to who gets to get over in the match just before it starts and let the wrestlers sort out the rest.
I loved that event and this match. The only event my whole family watched with me as a kid because the voting on the wrestler part was cool to them. By match start they loved Shelton and said "that looks like an athlete not just a wrestler" and when he won we were all stoked.
Benjamin was always on my top 10 list growing up. I remeber watching this match and going balistic when he won it.
Benjamin was one of my favorite wrestlers
This is why Jericho is a legend very few would do something like that 💯🤯
Shelton was a great IC Champ too, bring this PPV back especially with internet being king, so many stars and moments can be created by listening to the fans.
Cyber Sunday deserves a comeback. This PPV was so much fun.
I went straight to watching the full match after seeing this short and wow everything was still so clean despite this being made on the fly. Also you can see Jericho's face when it was announced that Shelton is going to be his opponent. He looked like he was strategizing on the spot, but was unsure of something - and true enough, he didn't know Shelton's finisher lol 😅. Both are really professionals and the GOAT.
Shelton Benjamin was totally under utilized and under rated back then man I still remember even at times when I think i remember him being a heel or even if he was going up against someone I liked or whatever i was always low key hoping he would win. Ol Shelly had major fucking potential man.
So organic, which created a great moment
We need more of this pronto
Look at that lineup right there, Christian, Tomko, Val Venis, Rosey, Hurricane, Shelton, Vito, Tajiri, Maven and Rhyno what a midcard
Jericho will always be the GOAT for me. His wrestling, his mic skills, his music, the fact he's helped so many in the business, and he's a genuine nice guy, always been my favourite. Y2J
This concept was ahead of its time.
“ AINT NO STOPPINNGG MMEEE NOWWW”
Much respect to him ♥️
What a great moment. Shelton's the man. His athleticism was crazy
He is a highly underappreciated wrestler...
Shelton was one of my most favorite , I liked him the first time I saw him wrestling to bad he didn't get a bigger push, one of the most talented athletic wrestlers at the time he was at his height
I'm glad for Shelton Benjamin, he's a great wrestler and underrated too.
I think these are the best jobs when a wrestler doesn't know they're going to win until their opponent doesn't kick out this makes the surprise some much more exciting
