Great live performance! As a gay man, I wish that they didn't "sanitize" the original lyrics. There's nothing wrong with the song the way it was written, and it shouldn't have been edited to accommodate the sensibilities of people who make a career out of taking offense at everything and everyone. \m/ \m/
The fun thing about this is that they were playing 13 nights at Wembley arena at the time, on the 2 year Brothers in Arms tour, so they literally just had to walk across the car park, as they were playing the arena that night. Check out Solid Rock from the WEMBLEY DOES THE WALK videos, as this has Nils Lofgren from Bruce Springsteens E Street band guesting on guitar.
If they hadn't been playing at Wembley Arena then they would have headlined Live Aid. Bob Geldof desperately wanted them onboard in order to attract other big name acts, but they weren't willing to let their fans down by cancelling their sold out evening gig. They therefore agreed to play an afternoon slot, which at 20 minutes turned out to be the longest of the entire concert despite consisting of only 2 songs. 3 years later despite being on hiatus after that massive Brothers in Arms tour they were asked to headline the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium and got back together specially albeit with Eric Clapton on rhythm guitar because Jack Sonni couldn't make it due to his wife having just given birth to twins. That concert was second only to Live Aid at the time with a worldwide audience of 600m+. It never ceases to amaze me how many younger people haven't even heard of Dire Straits given they were the biggest band in the world in the mid-80s.
Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live version). And Telegraph Road, also from Alchemy Live. Then just for you "Solid Rock" yes, you guessed it, From Alchemy Live, or maybe the "Live in 85 version" There are two venues at Wembley. Dire Straits were playing the other one for a few nights at the time of Live Aid, so didn't have far to walk, back to their own show, in the indoor arena.
Not to take anything away from the iconic performance there by Queen, but whenever anybody talks about how much the crowd was into their performance, just remember that this is what was on right before them. And when they say "how would like to be the act that had follow Queen?" Well, that act was David Bowie. He did just fine. This show was STACKED!!
this was a great day out i had in London, and do you know what, there was not one mobile phone to be seen, we knew how to enjoy concerts back in them days, You really do need to check out Sultans of Swing, and also Brothers In Arms
Really love your energy, my friend, I gotta tell you, I was there, don't hate me. I've been to most of the big gigs with multiple artists back in the day . And I've seen The Quo 4 time, and I'm seeing them in July .
YES, LIVE AID ! WOW MOMMA ! SUPER REACTION Mr ROCK N ROLL. YOU GOTTA TRY ' DOWN THE WATERLINE ' ( AWESOME ) FANTASTIC SONG. THERE IS ' WALK OF LIFE ' IF YOU WANNA TRY A SLOW ONE, ( VERY EMOTIONAL ) CANT MISS WITH A CLASSIC OF CLASSIC , ' BROTHERS IN ARMS ' 🤟🎸.
The openers killed it. Status Quo in the UK (my introduction to them) and The Hooters in Philadelphia. You should probably add some Hooters music to your review list! And let us never forget Queen's set at Live Aid. A cut above.
I love your reaction😂I did that too when i was younger, listening to Hendrix, or Led Zep😂👍Watch the video of DIRE STRAITS, LIVE AT NÎMES, FRANCE, 1992 TOUR....Their best concert with ALCHEMY LIVE....It's in the old roman ruins in NÎMES, France....It's not only because i'm french i say that...THE SHOW IS PHENOMENAL, you will realize how much they're good, and at that time, MARK wasn't using the Stratocaster, with the pure, clean sound anymore, he was using an Ibanez, with a big distortion😂DELISCIOUS😂He exploded everything, the band exploded everything during that show, and the atmosphere in France, is MAGIC (France, is the first country, outside uk Dire straits became famous)👍Peace from France ✌️
I think you're mistaking his custom-made Pensa-Suhr MK1, which was his primary guitar for that concert as it was throughout the late '80s and '90s, for an Ibanez. It was designed to be able to approximate the sound of either a Stratocaster or a Les Paul. It was one of many guitars he auctioned off earlier this year. It sold for £504,000.
@@jjc5407 i didn't told about the model😅🤭He used the Ibanez, with a big distortion, what he never did before the 90's....And, in the 2000 years old roman ruins, in Nîmes, France, sounds AMAZING🤭😅That's why i went to see CLAPTON, in May 2024, 2 month ago, who played there, why METALLICA, did à great show too, and so much great bands....😅✌️
@@julienmarquet8612 Of course Mark sounded sublime, he always does! 😃 I'm not sure what you meant to say in your first sentence, but it's definitely the Pensa Suhr MK1 he's playing for most of the songs at Nimes and not an Ibanez. They have a similar body shape, but that MK1 is one of his most iconic guitars. It was designed and made specially for him by his friend Rudy Pensa, who owns a very famous guitar shop in New York, and top guitar maker John Suhr who worked for Pensa at the time. Although as mentioned previously he sold the MK1 back in January, Mark still has a blue MK2. That MK1 though was a thing of beauty. Mark played it at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert, on Eric Clapton's 25th Anniversary Tour, Knebworth '90, the On The Night live album/DVD (from the same tour as the Nimes concert), A Night in London when he released his first solo album Golden Heart, Music For Montserrat, and many other times. It's sad we won't get to hear him play it again.
Not sure if you've seen this...same song, different lineup with one of the backing guitarists being some obscure guy called Clapton...I won't spoil it by mentioning the rest of the line up. ruclips.net/video/s1Zo3jUL2VU/видео.html

As a straight man I agree 100%. Why the hell can’t they just butt out and leave us all to just get along.

These kind of concerts like Live Aid can't be done anymore.. We don't have the same quality of artists as back then.. (and more Quo please) 😄
да бро
not the quality to fill out a monster line-up like that at least
You ruined that with the Status Quo part lol
Don't have concord anymore.to do two gigs in either side of the pond on the same day that Phil Collins did at live aid
One of the all time great guitar riffs 🤘
One of the all time great intros too!
Saw them live here, 3 times, each time, awesome, privileged 2 be around in the 80's/90's...

I posted a video summarizing the Live Aid concert. Hard to do for a show of 16 hours, but I still remember that day. Amazing concert full of stars.
New BAND-MAID, midnight Japan, tomorrow (maybe 10am your time 7/5)! The Grudge says "prepare yourself!"
