室戸岬は、日本の四国南東端、高知県室戸市にある岬です。岬は太平洋に伸び、室戸ユネスコ世界ジオパークです。

室戸ジオパークは、高知県室戸市全域をエリアとするジオパークで、2011年に世界ジオパークに認定されました。
室戸岬は、およそ1600万年前に深海底で堆積したものが100-150年周期で起こる巨大地震で隆起したそうです。
岬から約 140 km離れた南海トラフでフィリピン海プレートがユーラシアプレートの下に沈み込むため、岬周辺の土地は 1000 年あたり 2m の速度で隆起しているそうです。
ここは、かつて海底だった場所が1707年の宝永地震、1854年12月24日に発生した安政南海地震や1946年12月21日に発生した昭和南海地震により陸化した浜です。
1946年の昭和南海地震では地面が110cm隆起したそうです。この山を110cm持ち上げるとてつもないパワーは私には想像もつかないです。
一方で、黒潮が流れる沖合は台風が発生しやすい地域でもあり、室戸岬は強風で知られています。
1934年（昭和9年）の室戸台風と1961年（昭和36年）の第2室戸台風は、この付近に上陸し、その名を残しています。
第2室戸台風の際、気象台の風速計が破損し、最大瞬間風速は「84.5m/s以上」としか記録されませんでした。実際はどのくらいの風速だったのでしょう？
台風・地震などの災害もある一方で、恵みももたらしてくれる「自然」と共生してきた室戸の方々の知恵や工夫は素晴らしいと感じます。ご視聴ありがとうございました🥷🇯🇵
