From 1860 to 1960 ,lndians were banned from travelling back to lndia ,we were not even considered as citizens so we were subjected to the worst treatment by white British farmers as slaves.They punished any lndians for not learning English, punished for speaking Hindi,resulting in we losing our mother tongue .Only in 1960 we were given Citizenship, but we had no knowledge of lndia's independence or what was happening in lndia,but WE NEVER LOST OUR INDIAN CULTURE OR HERITAGE. He was an able administrator known as the Iron Man, being responsible for bringing in most of the princely states to the Union. Even as Patel was eventually made Deputy PM, Nehru would have been made Deputy PM if Patel was PM though Nehru may have not accepted because of his obduracy. There would not have been a need for elections in 1950 if Patel had died in office as PM, as the deputy PM would have taken over as PM till 1952. Don't compare India with Pakistan or any other decolonised nation. There were able leaders to lead the country. Jinnah was not the first PM of Pakistan but the Governor General. Pakistan was anyway on unstable ground.

Mohandas Gandhi wanted people to sacrifice their life for his stayagraha. Gandhi is not without blunders. Nehru is such a huge blunder. I don't say this in hind sight. I was not even born that time. But as a principle of democracy Mr. Patel must have become prime minister. Gandhi asking him to step aside is autocratic. Nehru must have gone to him amd cried a river.
In 1939 Subhas Chandea Bose was driven out of Congress and he had to move out of Indua to fight from outside. Without INA and Subhas chandra Bose the British Empire would have continued as army would still owe allegiance to British. Gandhiji did not not name Abul Kalan Azad as a strategic move, he had no option. This lady has very deftly refrained from mentioning anything about Subhas Chandra Bose. She is one more cog in the wheel. Patel was firmly with Gandhi because he did not want to fight the British and go to jail again.
Gandhi and Nehru were too idealistic, stupid idealistic. And a nation, especially a poor nation (as we were, at the time of independence), cannot be run solely on the basis of idealism.
