There was also sadness in the Two-Tone Ska revival. Songs like Ghost Town by the Specials and Grey Day by Madness. You've got to remember the times it came out of, as engineered de-industrialisation and mass unemployment were kicking in. A lot of the fun was tinged with aggression and defiance.

At the time, I must have been, I don't know, 19 / 20 years of age (or thereabouts) and I wasn't at all keen on this stuff but now at nearly 63 years of age and looking back, I absolutely love every freeking minute of it. There is nothing that even comes close to this in todays current music climate, it's just all wishy, washy conveyer belt rubbish now.
Discovered SKA in 1997 in south Miami, Florida. I was 16 and predominantly a metal head up until then. The backyard punk/ska scene was huge at the time. Within my first couple of months at my new high school (moved from Canada) I found myself in a warehouse about to see a band called Against All Authority (AAA). And the rest is history. SKA for life.
I grew up in central Florida in the mid 90s....punk/ska/hardcore scene was awesome. Saw some great 3rd wave bands. Catch 22 before the split, Link 80 before Nicks untimely death, Sublime when they were just a punk/reggae band ,AAA, Suicide Machines, MU330, Falling Sickness....the list is unending. Never got to see Mephiskaphelese though...Id have given my right arm to see em'
ElijahBlueTube I love my metal but I also love ska. Back in the day in the UK Mods and Rockers (metal) were adversaries. Why can't people love both? I reckon its because both metal and ska are honest working class music. As you are across the pond you need to check out The Who movie Quadrophonia to get the history of the UK scene. My fav US ska band is Fishbone and I love them cos they play metal , funk and ska and they are one of the best live bands
I'm thinking back to days with my dad when he was younger and I can't recall the name of the song but it had about jack and Jill in it? I don't suppose anyone can help me please x
Thank you for taking the time to look for me, but it had very similar lyrics but was a lot quicker. been trying to look through his old music collection can't seem to find it. Thank you once again for looking
Hehe, a lot of "big brothers" here, I am a little younger, and ska-socilised later auround 1995 but then, so that I have the luck, nearly all stars see on stage madness my favorites, specials and Rico Rodriguez , judge dread, Desmond Decker, Skatalites and best of all Laurel Aitken. Fell in love with ska ever since I heard One Step Beyond on the jukebox on Platform 4 at Reading station! The Selecter my all-time faves (Pauline Black & her hat probably helped!), though it's a close-run thing with The Specials and The Beat, and Bad Manners and Madness for sheer feelgood factor - just as true now as it was 40 years ago.
I'm from Reading and I remember the jukebox there. There was so many people who listened to ska. I'm not 55 and I've been listening to Ska since I was 12 😍
I'VE BEEN INTO SKA AND 2 TONE SKA SINCE 79 AND I'M STILL HOOKED BY THOSE DRIVING RHYTHMS AND HORNS...FROM THE SPECIALS,SELECTER, MADNESS TO THE BEAUTIFUL SOULFUL DELTONES , YUP...!! I'D SAY SKA"D FOR LIFE....!!!😎🇬🇭🇧🇴🇬🇭 WITH A HEAP OF PUNK ROCK CHUCKED IN.🍺😎👍🇬🇧☮️☯️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴🏴💣💣💥💥🔥
Takes me back to the late 70`s early 80`s drinking at The Rocket pub in Coventry, occasionally various ska band members would drift in after recording sessions at the studio across the road... the pub got a mention on the cover of Bad Manners first LP. Best gigs, The Specials at the Cov Locarno and Bad manners at The Spa centre , Leamington Spa.

Too Much Pressure but the Specials and essentials are so Ska for my car and scar, driven One Step Beyond and too far, but Bad Manners don't make a gentleman and Baggy Trousers don't fit my wit. So Skin head and thin Dread can sit or stand in front of The Mirror In The Bathroom and groom the room, with a Message To You Rudie or just plain Madness. I confess to stress less with glee and gladness. :)
I found this music in Fussa City Chrome-Tokyo at the BX on Yokota AB back in 1980 I pu an album by the Selector Celebrate The Bullet and since then I never looked back and @ the young age of 69 Im and it r still going strong SKA 4 EVER!!!🎹🎼👍🏽👌🏾💪🏿💯✔️

Great playlist ! I shaved my head, shined my heavy boots (or the opposite) and gonna stomp the moon. 2tones rules the dancefloor. You put spiders in my pants. Greats to you.
This brought me all the way back to the very first 2 Tone Double Disc set I bought at a bargain price when I was 20 years old, I had never heard it before, picked it up out of curiosity and fell in love with the Genre! Sadly, it went missing that same year and never was able to find it again to replace it. I'm 40 years old now and this was so amazing to finally find all those same songs again here! Thank you so much!!!
Superb mix of ska classics... and there not the singles are they? That version of Ne-ne na-Na na-na nu-nu is totally nuts ! I absolutely love it !! many thanks for cheering up my day.
At that time I was 18, 19 years old. Wunderfull music, very refreshing at that time and very inspiring. Me and my mates tried to play these records with our band. Loved that time!!!!
I remember being introduced to ska in highschool (2005 ish) and I can't remember the title, but it was someone singing about "and my mom is in the kitchen cooking with my, with my long hair". It did involve their long hair haha. If someone could help me it'd be greatly appreciated. It did have more of a reggae vibe.
