It's super annoying having dress pants that are too long. It's even more annoying having to go to a tailor every single time you want to have them altered. I've got two ways to show you how to do it, one with a sewing machine and one without.

I did get the pants back and can send you some pictures this Sunday. Thank you for your time and interest.
I think you do a really great job of showing the details without taking forever to explain them. You give us what we need and why we need it, and I feel like I could go out and do this confidently. I might need to check that blind stitch up close one more time though.
Oh .....🤗 thank you thank you for the up-beat / funny sewing tutorials. I started teaching myself how to sew with the help of U tube
but man most of them are like watching my Grandma sew while I’m grounded 😂 This was refreshing and motivating
🙏 thank u
Just found this channel, I already know I'm going to love this channel
Great video and instructions. The hand sewn blind hem especially is super and has totally professional finish- BRILLIANT! Thankyou so much xx
Thank you very much!
Use painters tape to market your seam guide. It really helps. You may also want to finish your edge with a zig zag before you sew the seam by machine :) fun video. I had a boyfriend who admitted he used a stapler and tape before he met a sewist like me.
I hemmed a second pair of men's trousers today using your technique (that's two in the past 2 weeks). What a great outcome. They look professional. It is so easy and simple. In the past I attempted to measure, cut, and sew the hem. They NEVER looked good. But these are first class, look like they were tailored just for my leg size.
I love seeing comments like these!!
I know it's already a cliché to say 'I'm the first' but man, I just happen to be proud of myself to show my love and support for such a wonderful man!
Thank you brother I appreciate that!

Nice video! Good presence. I have a blind stitch function on my sewing machine. I just used your video to understand the prep work. Thank you.
TY TY TY!! Short, simple and to the point!! Now I am 100% confident I'll be able to hem mine with no issues.
You got this!
This is how how-to videos should be made. Thank you and you have a new like and subscriber!
Thanks man, I'd been hoping you'd do one of these on dress pants.
Thank you, kind stranger! I just did my hem. Not as fast of course, but it's done, and it'll work!
I was just rolling through life, fine with my baggy ass Hagar's. Now I think I NEED them to fit correctly. Thanks a lot. lol
Got a bunch of anime shirts today. Time for that perfect fit. I may be a weeb, but I’m going to be a stylish weeb.
What anime you into??
Yokkata aka awsum in weebu

@@StylishDTailors lmao you got good taste, dado
Thanks for a quick professional and entertaining quick vid got me sum suits for my boys and need a quick idea to hem them . Yup gonna do the second method:)
Good timing I was just about to hem 2 new pairs of pants. Ty SD
Sewing for 50+ years- this is a nice, clear explanation. (Always looking for new tricks, tips).
Glad it was helpful!
Still haven't had the time to run out and grab a bedsheet to practice on. Really excited to start tailoring my own clothing and this video is great because my suit pants DESPERATELY need to get that slim fit. I'm not a fan of the double break on me. It feels weird being in your 20s and having anything over a slim fit.
Hello brother, thank you so much for showing 2 ways to adjust the length of the dress pants. I used the 2nd one and it came out very well. I was reluctant to cut it but with your tip of using pins at the edge of the desired length helped me a lot . Thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thank you, awesome information!!
I literally watched this video to do this, this morning, and it worked!! Thanks for this video
You're welcome!
Best sewing channel on RUclips 👑
Another great vid! Thanks SD
Thanks!! One of the things I’ve been doing more recently has been a military hem. I’ve noticed that I’ve got a higher instep, so the back of my pants hem will flap around in the wind. It’s been super easy! I use one of those clear Fiskar rulers that go up to 18” to measure a 0.5” in drop in the hem length from the from to the back and then cut the pants at that angle (using chalk as a guid of course). Then I hem as normal. Solves my stupid flappy pants problem!!
Yep i do that as well. I love the clean no break look, but i hate how my sock shows in the back if i were to hem it straight, so i just hem it at a slant.
You teach very well with small details
Thanks for the great video. Nice job!
YOU ARE THE MAN!
Thank you for sharing your super easy instructions 😊
No problem 😊
Love your videos !!
Good video for the big n short guys.. good timing 👍
POW!!!!! to the point, just what i was looking for to hem my Umpire pants.
Great Video and instructions. Much appreciated!!!!! Thank you, Blessings
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
D.. ur da bomb thanks! Just stitched up my son's grad pants
Amazing great videos man!!!
I Chuckled when that Boop sound came out of nowhere XD so cute
😎 I still haven’t tried a blind stitch yet. But I’m sure I will soon knowing my sons.
I’m sad coz it’s too hot to sew today ☹️ which in England isn’t said very often lol. xx
This guy is super great! Thanks for showing us HOW!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome vid, thanks.
Thanks for Uploading.
You sir are a godsend!
New Subbie Here! You are Hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣.. ahhhman I’m just sorry I missed you all this time. Thanks for sharing. Now I’m gonna go find one of my son’s pants to shorten... again. Lol. Heck I’ll just convert’em into shorts 🤪
Great content and delivery - funny, informative and entertaining! By the way, you could pass for one of the “Blueman Group” members.
Blueman? He's sewing not playing percussion.
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I love the improvement on the editing.
Thanks man! It was honestly my most heavily edited video that's for sure...
@@StylishDTailors And it definitely has brought up your game
@Stylish Dad always great content! Thoughts on doing a video instructing us how to let out the waist of dress pants? Thank you!
Too cute had me laughing. If you cut first and tuck it under and sew as you were doing the fray of the cloth wont be visible. Love the video
I love this guy ❤
Thanks man!
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge it very informative information...
You’re welcome, glad they’re helpful!
Shared you to my Community Tab ❤️
Hey that's awesome, thank you so much!
Wow! Thanks for your most detailed tutorial. I made t-shirts for some co-workers, and one asked if I knew how to hem pants, because he's short. LOL... I said yes with the quickness after watching your techniques. He approved of the job and will be bringing me six more pairs to hem. Woohoo...more money. ;-) Bless you.
After looking at a few videos😮 and after watching yours I know I can do it ❤ others make it so complicated 🤦 Thanks
Glad I could help!
Could you go into more depth on the "in & out of the front of your pants?"
Love what your doing, especially because it's simple and fast.
Quick observation in the video you have a note that shows the pants are haggar H24 when it should be H26. Haggar doesn't make H24s.
Keep up the great work with the video's
Good eye, my bad
nice! love the simplicity and how easy you make it. Can you do a video on Tailoring shorts to slim fit? As always awesome videos brotha!
Coming soon!
Life...life saver😩
Thank you so much.....someone gave me 4 pair of un-hemmed dress slacks. After watching your video I hemmed them myself. Thanks for the information.
Glad I could help!
Thank you for having a short intro.
nice tips. Thanks.
No problem!
Good video. Clear, well shot, and concise. The only recommendation I would make is finishing the edge (pinking, zigzag) before before sewing. It is difficult to work with the raw edge so close to the hem stitch.
Can you please explain what you mean? I'm confused because there would be no hem stitch until after sewing, so how would you add a zig zag stitch before sewing if there is no hem stitch yet? Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm a newbie.
Ok you sir are FANTASTIC!!!!! That is all! ❤
Wow, thank you!
Other you tube channels: let's get started
SD: SO EASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tnx
love this guy. Thanks for ditching the long intro!
Also...NICE SHOES D!
The hand stitched one got me 😂😂😂
Hey, style tip: learn to tie the berluti knot on your shoes, it's a much cooler knot than the regular bow 😁 not many people know how to get it right
How about shortening dress shirt sleeves without a machine? Thanks for this!
this was so dope
I appreciate that bro!
You had me at the short intro bro
Your Good. & A its a pleasure to watch you work.
addendum. "And" it's a pleasure to watch you work. Incidentally, I am tall with a 28" length.
I'm trying to buy my mom blind stitcher back. However, it is a delicate matter. Thanks for being there for us.
Coming from a family of shoe-makers I just recently received a heritage leather sewing machine from 19th Century Germany.
Sir, I'm not sure exactly how to sew in general. Any videos that help with that?
Appreciate ya
can you show one with the blind-stitch foot on the sewing machine and also how to make proper pant cuffs for dress pants?
Aw man! Those shoes need some love...
Yeah they've seen better days lol
Have you ever tried to make shirts or pants from scratch? Would love to see a video on that
Bro. Your clothes are On Point as always.
But those shoes need some love, man!
Question- If you used a zig zag stitch to finish the hem, wouldn't that zig zag show up on the outer part of the pants so you would see it?
Thanks. 🙂
It would but you can fold the inside of the pants down so you're only sewing the zigzag on the inside, I hope that makes sense!
Thanks! I think I can now buy that unhemmed suit on eBay and hem it up myself. :D
can finally make my own clam diggers.
Excellent! Thanks for the video, sir!
Graciosos por eso..
SD!!!! Your vids are so helpful! Thank you. Question. What's best, tapering the legs first, or shortening the length?
Did you get an answer because I have the same question
I saw another video on this channel where a pair of pants were tapered and hemmed on the same pair of pants, and the legs got taped first, then the hem.
If that helps
My Boy friend just purchased 3 suits and the pants are unfinished. I have hemmed a few in the past by hand, but decided to look up how to use my machine to do it.
As a 5'2 woman... thank you.
I have to hem my shorts because today they are several inches longer than they were decades ago and I keep getting my foot stuck whenever I try to put them on. I don't like anything touching my body and so I don't wear anything while on the second floor. It has been such a hassle getting long shorts on in time to answer the front door that I bought myself a kilt. I have some men's wraps from Thailand and I am going to use magnets to tighten them up. Frustration, Be Gone! Thanks for being there.
0:33 my man. We need to talk about that situation regarding those shoes
Lol I know right?? They're broke AF...
Blind stitch on the sewing machine tutorial??
I recently started a new job, which requires me to wear khakis for casual occasions & dress pants for anything even remotely formal. The big problem with that is that I'm pretty short, just barely over 5 feet tall & a bit on the chubby side. I'm 21 but could easily pass as a teenager or even preteen. For non work clothes I typically shop for plus size stuff in the kids section, cause I have a better chance of finding clothes that actually fit me there. It's hard to find good fitting dress clothes in the kids section though. plus I'm tired of shopping in the kids section. So this video is super useful
Could you use your shortening process for slant pant hems. I shortened a pair of pants to one and a half inches near the hem. I measured the made hem to the caulk marks at the inseam. I used that number alone the finished hem and created the slat hem that way. The part I had a problem with was the folding of the 1 1/2 inch fabric to the hem measurement. I marked the pants on the wrong side of the fabric and then hit or missed the new hem and then pinned as I went along. I remeasured the inseam after I basted the new hem. I'm waiting for the pants to come back to me so I can finish hemming them. Do you have any easier way to make slant hems on pants marked on the wrong side? Thank you for your time.
Did you get your pants back? Shoot me a pic on Twitter if you can @Astylishd
Does this mean I no longer have to go crazy figuring out the blind hem stitch on the machine? Lol
And yes, I do shorten all my pants due to height. (Aside from Big and Tall, we need Short and Stumpy.)
Hey Stylish Dad got any tips on how to alter oversized NBA jersey or NFL ones. I was one of those early 2000s teens that bought all my clothes two sizes bigger. Just wondering if you got any ideas.
Oh that's a good idea! Depends on the size. Shoot me a message on IG
Do you sew with the pants wrong side or right side out. I tried the pants on. Pinned my length took them off. Turned them inside out did perpendicular pins at the height I wanted them raised by then do I sew inside out? Or flip right side out and re pin? I’m confused cause sewing inside out put the top tread on the inside and sewing right side out you can’t tell if you are pinned to the correct length thank you
Yup you want to do all of your alterations with your pants inside out.
I would have binded with the sewing method too.
Do you have a video for ladies I am a short lady so always have to have my pants shortened.
These same concepts apply to you as well!
I bought some jogging pants (polyester/cotton mixed material) from a Gucci store last week. The waist is too big and the length is too long. The store manager said they can alter the pants for me for free. Should I trust them to do it? I’m worried the altering will damage the pants and make them not look original anymore. I don’t people to be able to tell that they’ve been altered either.
Nah they should do a good job!
Would you use a blind stitch if you wanted the pants to be let out in the future?
You definitely could yes!
Do you have any recommendations for any decent priced sewing machines? Possibly from Amazon
Anything between $50-$120 really, and check out Facebook Marketplace!
time to buy a sewing machine. any recommendations?
Anything for about $50 should be fine
Not to be a buzzkill but aren’t you supposed to leave the back of the cuff 1/2 to 3/4 inch longer than the front?
You can yeah, thanks for letting people know!
