Walking almost a mile 2 times a day thru heavy noisy traffic, people crowds, and smells. Amazing job Tom! As someone who owns and trains service dogs you did a great job balancing confidence and working! She looks like she’s on the right track and I’m so so excited for her and her handler
I had no idea where to start. You can have dogs all your life, nothing prepares you for something like this. Knowing when to "break" during sessions and how to re-read the situation was a game changer to helping her. Tom helped me in a BIG way figuring that out!
One of the things that always hurts my heart is that dogs don't understand the why behind bad things that happen. Like Tom mentioned in this situation, Stormi did not - can not - understand what a car accident is, why it happened, or that it won't happen again. She just knows that something really scary, really painful happened. This is where it is so important for us to be there for our pups, to advocate for them, and to show them that they can be confident again. I hope Stormi and her owner can get back to that place of confidence again. From the looks of it, they definitely can!
I think a lot of people don't realize that dogs can have PTSD, depression, anxiety, ect. Which is really sad. Dogs can have a lot of the same problems as us for similar reasons. I liked that you stopped to really break down why she was scared from her perspective.
So glad you were able to help this team out, i can’t imagine how hard it was for them. I have a medical alert response service dog and he’s my Lifeline!
I don’t know what I would do without my medical alert dog, they give you so much confidence, freedom and safety. You’re doing such a great job with her, and I’m so glad you’re working this together. I wish you both all the very best, hugs!🐾
Incredible show of how skilled a dog and handler have to be to make a great PA team. I don’t think service dogs get enough credit. 🐶🐕🤗 Awesome job and incredibly helpful content!
I had tears in my eyes because the owners didn’t give up on their dog. It was astonishing to see Tom break down the PTSD behavior into such small blocks and separate it from the dog’s therapy job…then came repetition. How incredible when the dog saw his owner in distress and followed protocol..beautiful. ❤️
As someone with PTSD working with a SD hopeful, my heart goes out to this team. What a wonderful transformation and here's to continued progress for them both 👏
I just rehomed one of my GSD puppies to a disabled vet who has trained a number of dogs. The puppy is 11 weeks old. I'm delighted. I was beginning to believe I would not be able to rehome the puppies despite their quality due to how crappy most people are in my area.
Watched the whole episode with misty eyes. I can’t imagine what the owner went through! I’m so glad they found you, Tom! Stormi is on right tracks now!

@@DeannaSteinle You are so welcome. I’m watching from my hospital room, so I completely understand the love you have for your beautiful service pup. Many prayers for amazing days ahead together!!!!
I think this is more common then people think where service dog and confidence especially after something traumatic. This is probably one of the most interesting videos you have done. It's so different then your regular training since you have to blend your training with hers. Also loved the quick wolf visit. Could have done with a while episode on that.
My service dog was doing great in her training and then people started stepping on her because of her size and she has regressed and started barking at people when they approach. I gave her a little break from work, and we started over, and she’s doing better, now it’s a little quiet woof, and she refocuses and is now able to handle training situations in grocery stores again without woofing with almost complete focus❤❤.
Incredible how a bit of patience and empathy can help a dog overcome so much. Humans could definitely learn a thing or two. Thanks for another great video Tom. I always get so much out of them!
I’m a Forster Family in France for spanish stray dogs and they are sometimes so unsecure and not trusting in human that your vidéos help me a lot. Thank you so much to be THAT human who help us to understand their fears and progress to the normal life they deserve.
I wish Stormi and her mom all the best and back to their normal life as close as they can. The relationship btw their is pure love and strong. I am so please to watch this episode, Tom! It makes my day fill with light, hope, positive. Will you do the update with Stormi later? If so, please update us how are they doing. I am really happy to see them again.
Very cool to see this service dog gain it’s confidence back and seeing the handler able to relax and get her enjoyment of her dog back. Wishing the best for those two as time goes on! Awesome job Tom!
19:51 "it's not dog training, it's just figuring out what works for her" I love that honestly, I can't imagine how stressful a car accident would be to a dog and you always seem to "find" a way to solve problems even if you haven't had to deal with it before. Killing it on the B-roll and editing by the way :)
Tears when Stormy was doing her job toward the end of the video. What a team. Such a shame that a car accident took away her confidence, but it looks like she's going to bounce back. Great job Tom!
As a service dog handler, I can't imagine how hard things have been, not only for the dog but for the handler. Your service dog is your everything and often makes all the difference in the world when it comes to a handler's independence and wellbeing. If you're doing things right your dog should want to work. Traumatic experiences can happen so suddenly and take that joy and confidence right out of a dog. It's absolutely heartbreaking. I know many handlers who had to wash (retire) amazing service dogs who couldn't bounce back after a traumatic experience. You can see how hard Stormi's regression has affected her handler but I love that she hasn't given up all hope and is doing everything possible to help Stormi work through it. Thank you so much Tom for taking the time to help a fellow team out! Wishing for the best results!
Thank you for sharing this. Stormi and I send our love! This has been a journey we never thought we would be on. But so thankful for the support of Tom and The NBD Army to support us through it.
This brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful couple, and doing the hard work of recovery from a trauma. Not easy for anyone nor any animal,SO many triggers.
I can't believe how much I have taken away from this one video! Desensitizing my pup is going to be my #1 priority to build his confidence! Thanks Tom for sharing your experience and welcome to TN! Hope you enjoyed our hills and trees :)
as a service dog handler, i love to see this. I feel so bad for that handler and the dog, i was in an accident with my service dog, thankfully we were okay and he had no issue and regression. This handler seems awesome! Also i love the Akra Creations treat pouch she has, i use one too :)
I had an accident with my lab. He was great, quiet in the car until then. We never had a peaceful ride after that. Screamed, yelped, barked, jumped, you name it. I had to travel 7 hours when I moved. It was torture for all of us. He never got over the trauma. He has since passed due to age but I still feel bad about his sudden change. I wish I could have helped him.
The confidence instilled in that pup when she actually has to do her job!!! Stunning she knows why she’s out and that she’s work even with her nerves she really pulled out all the stops!! So beautiful to see!!
My dog and I were in a car accident. It wasn't flipping or anything but I was t-boned and my dog was thankfully wearing his harness and seatbelt so he wasn't flung around. It took months of daily desensitizing to get him to get into a car on his own after that. I can't imagine being in a worse accident making my dog scared of the world. Amazing and caring owner.
Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us. I live in Oklahoma City and I have two shepherds. Shiloh and Bear are great dogs. I have learned so much from your videos. You're a blessing to us all!
So cool getting to watch how much progress Stormi was able to make in such a short time. It’s amazing to see the partnership between a service dog and their owner- especially at the end during her owner’s episode. The abilities of these dogs is incredible. Wishing them all the best on their journey together ❤️
As a psychological method, what you're using is called Exposure Therapy. The purpose is for the incrementally increasing exposure to the trigger factor to increase the threshold for what it is that sets off the dog's fight or flight till you reach a point wherein the normal experiences in a dog's day there are few to no triggers at all. Also, it resets the amygdala so that it doesn't respond to triggers as often.
So cool! GREAT VIDEO !!! ...So good to see this SD and her owner work thru her PTSD ..Loved the wolves too!! OUR body language is so important in communicating with ALL animals ..seeing as they 're non verbal !!
Thank you Katherine! having Tom teach me how to re-read her made a major impact oh how I communicate with her now. Having that outside perspective, particularity since I am so emotionally involved, was key!
Keep up the awesome work Deanne! Loved seeing how much progress Stomi made over just a couple of days! My daughter asked me last night what my favorite part of being a dog trainer is... this video exemplifies exactly what I love about my job. Helping a person or people connect with their dogs so they become a beloved member of the family rather than a frustration. I love seeing the progress in the dog and handler each day. It's what I live for!
@@DeannaSteinle So glad that you got help from Tom to help rebuild Stormi's confidence after such a traumatic event for the two of you. I'm so sorry that happened. It's important for us as humans to understand that dogs also can have trauma from bad experiences similarly to humans, and it's so important to get them help for it just like we sometimes need help to get through a traumatic event. Love seeing dog owners who put the work into their dogs and give them the best possible chance at success. You're awesome Deanna!
It was amazing to see you work with a different type of training situation. It was so heartwarming to see the handler and the dog become more confident as the video progresses.
I have a service dog, who is a weenie about everything, because he’s only a year and a half. As I’ve been desensitizing him to things, I can kinda understand her frustration of wanting her dog to be ok with everything. It’s takes a lot of patience and work. It takes everything out of you, but worth it.
I love you so much Tom Davis and what you do for dogs. I’ve been watching you for years now and from the first time I saw you, we have been on the same thought process with these dogs. I’m a working trainer and service dog handler. and I currently work for a facility who does things differently than how I would on my own or with my own clients. Purposely so for now to continue my education and development of my philosophies. When I am feeling overwhelmed or like “my” training is incorrect due to where I work, I watch your videos. You help me stay motivated and confident in my own methods I’ve learned from internships and previous facilities I’ve worked with. Thank you for being true balanced dog training to an easy to access and positive light!
The ability for the dog to learn how to function again after the event is huge. This will give her the confidence to be herself again. I wish it was something that could be used on people with the PTSD.
Your service dog is your world. When you have one, you can’t think of a life without them. It’s hard and difficult when your medical equipment sd goes through something like that and will never be the same. I’m glad the trainer found Tom and hope that Stormi keeps moving in the right direction.
I have never watched myself have an episode before, and when I turn around and you can see my face drooping and my slurred speech, I bawled. It is so odd seeing yourself on camera during it. As hard as it is, I am glad it brings awareness.
Thank you Rose, I was an emotional wreck. I'm so glad Tom could put up with me!! haha! He was the right fit, not only for Stormi, but how to handle me. I think anyone else would have broken my spirit. He knew I was in a fragile emotional state. He kept reassuring me and explaining in a way, I didn't get overwhelmed.
You're so straight to the point but still so understanding of the dog it blows me away. This episode is by far my favorite. Service dogs are so important in people's lives and when something horrible happens it's great to see that you get them. Awesome job!
Thanks for this video. My guide dog suffered a bad dog attack while guiding me. We have worked so hard to help him recover but sadly he hasn’t been able to relax and guide within a 2 block radius of where the attack happened. It happened a block from our home. I had to make a very hard decision and am retiring him. He has been an amazing guide dog. He has been by my side for 4 years but it’s time for him to enjoy just being a dog. I will be without my guide dog, my independence and safety. The wait for a new guide can be as long as 3 years. My guide will enjoy his nose work classes, something he could not do as a guide dog. He has excelled at trick training as well. I know he will thrive with his new family and love the fun training and non guiding life
This is such a hard situation and decision to make. I admire you for the strength to retire and to see other talents he has and let them grow. I am proud of you and so sorry this happened. This is why I agreed to do the video; as hard as it was , I prayed it would help others. . I didn’t want people in our community to be alone. To know real life things happen. People rarely talk about it for a variety of reasons. How emotional it is , fear of judgement , and honestly the journey of regression of our dogs due to circumstances out of our control breaks our soul. We need them! And if this happens we fee hopeless. I just wanted SD/Guide Handlers know you aren’t alone and we are here for each other. And hopefully my journey could help someone . Much love for Stormi and I 💛
My SD is a rescue and there’s a few things in our life that rarely happens. That she’s affected by like running people or men. She’s getting better but I can’t go anywhere without her. She’s my lifeline and my angel. So when there’s a dog around it scares us because also people fake so many service dogs.
I love these different kind of videos! Not just agression or reaction. Also dogs are different, as in this case service dogs. But the basics still are the same and it works. I love it! Sorry for my bad english.
I was just thinking what would I do if they had a service dog that started developing behavior problems. They said, “well that’s a good question, I’ve yet to come across that!” Now I have a video to refer too! And also use it in my dog training as well!
So great to watch the combination of behaviour modification from Tom, and service dog training from the owner. Felt emotional for this dog and owner, but so glad she has the best help available. Good luck to them ❤️
That was great respect you (Tom) showed for the dog and the owner. Generally, no one should engage a service dog, but there are times like this when it is necessary in order to bring this beautiful dog back to her full capacity as a service dog. I've handled service dogs before and some have to be "on" 24/7 where others can have breaks. Stormi needs to be on pretty much 24/7 unless there's someone else around who can respond if her owner has an emergency. I hope Stormi recovers fully. She certainly is on the right track now.
We keep working every day. Whatever Stormi decides is best for her, that is what we will do. We have a long way to go, but unbelievably thankful for this progress.
He took so much time listening and observing before we did anything . He helped us both through the worst time of our life. The change in her is amazing . We continue every day making progress
@@resilienceisbeautiful I am so glad it did help you both. I know Tom’s ideas and methods have helped both of my dogs loads. They both have benefited so much from just watching his content.
I am blown away by the entire video, Iam so grateful that you (TOM) exist to help dogs and solve the problems. This video was emotional for me. I can’t imaging what poor Stormy went through in that accident, but Iam glad she is gaining confidence and I hope she improves and gets back to where she was. I felt bad for her handler because the bond is too strong and to watch your dog shut down and feel helpless is heart breaking and life crushing. She is lucky to be in a place with amazing people like Tom to help them out. Thank you for sharing this and the wolves 🐺 too❤️❤️❤️🧿
We work hard everyday. We would never had made the progress we did, without his help. I was stuck; I had no idea how to help here. You can have dogs all you life, and nothing prepares you for this.
@@DeannaSteinle I know how helpless one can feel when you feel stuck. Iam so glad you Stormy found Tom. Always gonna be rooting for the two of you. Hoping to see a progress video in the future. Big hugs and love from me and my dog Sky❤️
Car accidents are traumatic for humans- I cannot begin to imagine how a dog would feel. You are not just a teacher, but a real educator. "American's Canine Educator" couldn't be a better title. I keep seeing "1 watching" and I'm like "that's me! I am watching at work between patients so it's taking me a lifetime to finish the video!
This guy is something else. He is ALWAYS so patient , I have NEVER seen him as much as raise his eyes as if to say…. Why aren’t you listening to me this dog will never learn! When he explains something he is so clear on what he wants you to do. I have learnt so much from him, but only him because of his whole attitude. He was born to do this and I think he has saved a lot of dogs lives and stopped a lot of dog owners from finding new homes for there dogs where it would all start again exactly the same way until finally someone has the dog and gives up so he goes to kennels and a possible horrible outcome.
Tom, your videos have given me the skills to be a confident handler for my dog. I'm much less anxious, so she is too. Thank you for making great content!
It's pretty interesting seeing you working with a service dog, specially in this scenario where ahe won't take food. Something that with purely positive would take weeks, can be worked through to give the owner leverage while the desensitization process is going on.
I needed this video because my bloodhound mix is the same way. She knocked over an outside vase and cut her paw when she was 8 to 10 weeks old. She had to have stitches. Soon after that, she was (and still is) scared to be in the backyard by herself. She would start whining and drooling wanting to come inside but as soon as you go outside with her she is fine wanting to play. I told the vet about it they she'll grow out of it. She is 3 now and she has not grown out of it. She is just slightly better cuz she has to deal with it. But she now is scared of loud sounds like the trash truck which she can't even see. She is also scared of big objects like a dumpster or a cardboard box and things with wheels (outside the house, for some reason she is not scared of my dad's wheelchair and electric chair). She likes people and will let them pet her (sometimes) because she is unpredictable and the wrong move from someone will scare her or if there are too many people around her. I knew my dog had PTSD but I didn't know what or how to help her. Thank you Tom Davis for having videos about dogs who are fearful in lack confidence. Now I can help her to over come some of the things she is afraid of.
You "saving" a service dog is amazing. Cuz they "save" their humans who really need that Helper, so I am just thankful to No Bad Dogs for doing this for both human in need and dog in need. Norway sending love!
Thank you for this awesome video. I find myself rewatching your videos and listening to you explain different things teaches me new things. I have a question: I have an intact GS male and we have been working on reactivity and aggression towards dogs and people. My question is about training. I am with our dog more than my husband who is my dog’s first connection. He did two sessions of training with him when we first got him. I am wondering if I am the one doing the majority of the training now, will this cause an issue for the dog? He seems to show some improvement at times but there is obviously something off because he is still reactive and aggressive.
You absolutely are training your dog. I train my dog. We walk through sheep, hares, squirrels all the time. I could easily bring her up to UK comp obedience if I wanted to do that again. My partner also trains my dog. He has NO IDEA he is. She jumps all over him, steals his food, It's the same if you have children, they don't train, but how they treat the dog, your rules must all "gel" for the dog, and all members of "the pack".

Who’s cutting the onions? 😭 Watching them overcome the struggles and fears was just incredible!
I have a medical alert response service dog and he’s my
Lifeline!
So happy to help!!!
I don’t know what I would do without my medical alert dog, they give you so much confidence, freedom and safety. You’re doing such a great job with her, and I’m so glad you’re working this together. I wish you both all the very best, hugs!🐾
Thank you so much 💛
Incredible show of how skilled a dog and handler have to be to make a great PA team. I don’t think service dogs get enough credit. 🐶🐕🤗 Awesome job and incredibly helpful content!
Thanks so much for the feedback for this team! I know they will love to see the support!
That’s a huge compliment for all of us!
What a wonderful transformation and here's to continued progress for them both 👏
Thanks so much for the feedback!
I just rehomed one of my GSD puppies to a disabled vet who has trained a number of dogs. The puppy is 11 weeks old. I'm delighted. I was beginning to believe I would not be able to rehome the puppies despite their quality due to how crappy most people are in my area.
This women is so strong I hope both her and her dog can continue to improve. What a horrible thing for both of them to go through
Watched the whole episode with misty eyes. I can’t imagine what the owner went through! I’m so glad they found you, Tom! Stormi is on right tracks now!
I had no idea where to start. You can have dogs all your life, nothing prepares you for something like this. Knowing when to "break" during sessions and how to re-read the situation was a game changer to helping her. Tom helped me in a BIG way figuring that out!
@@DeannaSteinle hope, everything will be only better! ❤️
Good to see you training a dog that developed a problem because of an accident instead of lack of proper training
Honestly one of my favorite NBD video ever, the emotions ran high on this one. I hope the best for her and stormi!! Thanks Tom for an amazing video ❤️
wow, thanks so much Lucy! I appreciate you watching and for the feedback!
It's all about those repetitions and having them succeed.
As a service dog owner, this video is extremely helpful. Thank you greatly!!
Awe, I am so happy to like it!
AP Thank you for your support during the live chat premier! Stormi and I send our love!!
Yes! This was a great challenge
Thank you!! 💛💛 we work hard every day!
Very cool to see this service dog gain it’s confidence back and seeing the handler able to relax and get her enjoyment of her dog back. Wishing the best for those two as time goes on! Awesome job Tom!
Thank you Nicole!
Love how you're helping her take it back to basics and rebuild her from the ground up. Progress progress progress! Love what you do!
Thanks, I had to hit the ground running with this one!
And so happy for the owner, to be getting her dog back in this way ❤️
Thanks, Nikki!
Thank you Nikki!
Poor sweet girl! So glad you were able to help her & her owner.
Thanks so much!
Saving both lives! The handler who needs the service and the dog who needs some love and structure to love working again.
Thanks so much, Sean!
This brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful couple, and doing the hard work of recovery from a trauma. Not easy for anyone nor any animal,SO many triggers.
One of the highlights in my week is watching a new NBD vid!!!
That means so much to us!
I can't believe how much I have taken away from this one video! Desensitizing my pup is going to be my #1 priority to build his confidence! Thanks Tom for sharing your experience and welcome to TN! Hope you enjoyed our hills and trees :)
I am so happy to hear that Ashley!
Yay! Im so happy to see another TN person here!
This was clearly a very special case and I'm glad I got to see it. Service animals do such amazing work. ❤️
as a service dog handler, i love to see this. I feel so bad for that handler and the dog, i was in an accident with my service dog, thankfully we were okay and he had no issue and regression.
This handler seems awesome! Also i love the Akra Creations treat pouch she has, i use one too :)
This means the world to me. Thank you! 💛💛 I’m so glad you all were able to recover.
Having a service dog this hits home. I understand how this would feel and so glad you were able to help this team
My service dog and I are going through something similar and it was nice to see others dealing with the same thing. Thank you for your video.
Thank you Marissa! It is hard to watch myself have an episode on camera. I have never seen it from that perspective before!
THANK YOU, Katherine!
Thank you Katherine! having Tom teach me how to re-read her made a major impact oh how I communicate with her now. Having that outside perspective, particularity since I am so emotionally involved, was key!
My heart goes out to the both of them she's got this they both can get pass this 🥰💕🥰💕
Thank you!
Thank you for supporting her, Kristen!
Thank you so much! We work so hard every day!
@@un-lady-like You are so sweet! Thank you! training never stops!
our service dogs are our world they do a job no human can do i can relate i hope this team bounces back i think they will
Thank you Steven
Much love, Lynne
The ability for the dog to learn how to function again after the event is huge. This will give her the confidence to be herself again. I wish it was something that could be used on people with the PTSD.
First lol I’m so exited I have a service dog to!Sadly Me and My service dog got in a Crash And I trained my dog back!:>
Yay!
Great!!!!
Your service dog is your world. When you have one, you can’t think of a life without them. It’s hard and difficult when your medical equipment sd goes through something like that and will never be the same. I’m glad the trainer found Tom and hope that Stormi keeps moving in the right direction.
brought tears to my eyes when stormi assisted her owner 😭😭😭 such a great video!! ❤️❤️❤️
😊😊 Thanks so much!
I have never watched myself have an episode before, and when I turn around and you can see my face drooping and my slurred speech, I bawled. It is so odd seeing yourself on camera during it. As hard as it is, I am glad it brings awareness.
So fantastic you could help this lovely girl and her beautiful dog..
Thank you for this beautiful comment 💛💛
@@DeannaSteinle no problem hows she going now?
Poor baby. Must be heartbreaking for Mom. Glad everyone is ok and happy she’s getting help. 💕
Service dogs are so special and such a beautiful service. So sad what happened for them. Thankful you can help them and we can learn something.
Much love for Stormi and I 💛
It is so wonderful seeing the progress in helping the dog become more comfortable again. Amazing work!
I really love that she came to you for help so she didn't have to wash her service dog from working outside the home!
Being in a car accident with my girls is one of my biggest fears. I'm glad this pair found you to help them. Thanks for the great video as always.
My SDiT & I thank you for this vid. We’ve been subscribed for months & you’ve helped us so much! PEACE 🐾
Handler to Handler, you got this!! Stormi and I send our support!
Thanks so much, Greta!
Good luck to them ❤️
That’s amazing that you got the dog to start not fearing those noises so quickly
What a beautiful soul this dog is, so brilliant to see her confidence grow, such an amazing thing! What did we do to deserve dogs?!?! x
Tom makes so much sense. These videos have helped me immeasurably.
Thanks so much for the feedbck!
I love how you take your time to help them work thru this issue. I fully believe that they will get better.

Hahah! Do not worry, we paid for the Turkey!!! lol
I love seeing a non-aggressive, but still serious issue being helped. Love your work Tom
I found Tom randomly on RUclips exactly a year ago and through RUclips he has helped me with my reactive dog Sky. Iam so grateful to these videos.

Omg. Anyone else in tears?! 🥲🥲
Awesome video! Best part was seeing the owner with a big smile on her face seeing Stormi relax . Having a dog with anxiety is tough! Great work 🙌🏻🙌🏻
This guy is something else.
Bravo Tom. 👏
Yes, I was so stuck!
Alot of emotion in this one.. great work and fire content as always Tom! 🔥💯
Thank you so much!
What a beautiful video. Such a sweet handler and dog. Loved seeing you work with a service dog Tom! The video production was also fantastic!!
Thanks, Peggy!
Awww Peggy, Thank you!
I have a service dog and this is a fear of mine. She is my world.
Love watching these real stories! Thank you Tom for the work you do 💕
Thanks so much Juliuana!
Me too, I love the in action real life stuff not just in the facility.
Thanks so much, Anna
You absolutely are training your dog. I train my dog. We walk through sheep, hares, squirrels all the time. I could easily bring her up to UK comp obedience if I wanted to do that again. My partner also trains my dog. He has NO IDEA he is. She jumps all over him, steals his food, It's the same if you have children, they don't train, but how they treat the dog, your rules must all "gel" for the dog, and all members of "the pack".
