Honestly this game doesn't get enough credit. As a fighting game it had some pretty innovative concepts for the year 1994 such as running and backdashing. For comparison Mortal Kombat wouldn't do running until MK3 which was at least a year after this. As a Power Rangers game they did more than due diligence and I don't just mean the Green Ranger arc which is entirely replicated here including the sword of evil which only the computer can use.
It's actually not "only the computer" just that you have to use a cheat to unlock Evil Green in versus mode. Obviously that does mean you can't use the sword as Tommy in the story, however.
Idc what anyone says, this game rules and holds a lot of memories with my brother and I. I thought the music was badass and the fucking automatic fatalities were great. Really showcased the brutality of the rangers.
Green ranger and dragonzord were so OP. I remember getting this game Christmas morning. It took me half the day to beat the Green Ranger. Once I had him I think it took 20 minutes to beat the whole game 😂. That jump attack the dragonzord did was completely unblock-able 😂

The main things I liked about this one over the SNES version (though I preferred that one) were being able to play as Tommy as well as the Rangers not just being mere palette swaps of each other and looking like they’re all on steroids.
I have to disagree with your description. People who got the SNES couldn't even play with green ranger, so nobody who got the Genesis version felt that they wanted the SNES version instead it was the other way around once people found out you couldn't pick the green ranger

Dang! Memories.. I remember you could beat the entire game just by timing your jump right and then hitting them with the leg swipe kick. I can still hear the audio of them hitting the ground without even getting a hit on me
It's super mediocre in just about every way, but those super-corny, hyper-enthused and static-infused digitized voice samples will probably make you crack a smile or two.

There are rare examples of this however, such as the recent standalone Mad Max game, the Shadow Of Mordor, which was independent of the films, but was still classed as canon to the story.

I couldn’t believe how difficult this game is. Not only did I of course not have the proper Genesis controller when I first played this, it was always kicking my ass.
My recollection is that's an evil, Rita-power-infused sword he's using there, and that the Rangers destroyed it in the TV show to break Rita's power over Tommy/the Green Ranger. So it'd actually make a lot of sense if he couldn't use it as a player-controlled, good character.
unlike the snes version you actually get to play as the green ranger in this version and the female power rangers aren't muscular but the snes version has the genesis version beat in the sound department

Despite the fact that I'm a big fan of the original mmpr series, I'm really disappointed of how they didn't use king sphinx here or in the snes version , he's one of the best looking villains besides goldar and Lord zedd
Yeah, Sphinx looked like he belonged as one of the main bad guy warriors alongside Goldar. Heck, the first episode of Power Rangers I ever watched had him and Goldar fighting together against the Megazord so he should've in my opinion been a recurring monster like Goldar was.
I remember this game. There are several ways to cheese the game. Pick the pink ranger and time the arrow attack so the enemy is only falling down and getting up into the next arrow. Or pick black ranger, get right next to enemy, pull out the ax and start spamming the attack spin. The enemy can’t get away and dies. With Dragonzord, like pink ranger time the missile so the enemy just knocked down and gets up into the next missile. The jump atttack does great damage too.
I have known this game since the summer of 1994, but something new has occurred to me. It seems that Rita’s dialogue seems closer to that of her Japanese counterpart.

But even as a kid, I remember being confused by the credits. I. Shadow? Unemployed? Who exactly was working on this game?? 🤣
I can imagine the shock American audience were in for if their ever got around to see the original zyuranger. With how much darker more violent it was. Plus with how drastically differently a good chunk of it was told chronological. Also how much drastically longer the American dubb was and how much of it was added non canonical with the original sentai. Still I love the American series and it makes me appreciate the original sentai include all the non Americanized ve verision which is a lot of them.
I was wondering if there's an extra boss after the Cyclops? on options menu, theres an extra music boss soundtrack, which isn't heard during these stages. So maybe there's a way to unlock an extra boss?
I wonder why didn't they use the Zord formation sequence at 18:11-18:21 for the Megazord sequences throughout the game? Also, this game needed like, 10 levels, not just 5, it feels rushed compared to other versions such as the Game Gear one.
This game was unbelievable. Such an action packed fighter. Kids today have no clue what great games were. And did anyone else think Goldar's battle cry was freaking awesome??

The Bandora palace was in MMPR as well (due to the Zyuranger footage) So it is not a blunder but rather attention to detail.
Not only that, but it seems some of Rita’s dialogue matches Bandora more than it does Rita.

True in Sega Gennisis Billy Blue Ranger's Level is 3 but so was it level 3 on Super Nes with Eye Guy.

I enjoyed both SNES and Genesis versions. SNES version for the platformer game play and the Genesis version for the fighter style.
Both were were good.
The weird plain changing like fatal fury on the Snes wasnt my groove but the game was still good.

If you press all three buttons on the title screen the evil green ranger is playable in the vs mode
You need to be the Evil Green Ranger for it. It's an anti-air attack done by charging Down, then pressing Up + any attack.
