    Ah! sunflower, weary of time,
    Who countest the steps of the sun,
    Seeking after that sweet golden clime
    Where the traveller's journey is done;
    Where the youth pined away with desire,
    And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
    Arise from their graves and aspire;
    Where my sunflower wishes to go.

    Thank you very much! We're all merely the product of our own said environments, and unfortunately, not much of anything else. I was rather fortunate in that I had professors who understood this and, made a gallant effort to educate us based upon a more worldly requisite of knowledge, rather than just another static version of some canonized curriculum. That allowed me to view these passages of culture free from all biased attitudes that would've otherwise clouded my overall interpretation.

    I love Allen Ginsberg. If it weren't for him, we'd all still be living in the oppressive G-rated-only era of Eisenhower. Because of this man's poetry, we've learned to evolve and express our inner souls trapped behind a wall of oppression and conformity. It is because of Allen that I'm not afraid to point out the bad things in the world to try to fix them with what talents I have. I don't care what any uptight official says.I love Ginsberg as I would love my family! He's my hero. RIP

    These moments of our lives pass seemingly inconsequential to our conscious minds, one moment at a time. We live in that singular moment, but are defined by it later on. The eloquent poetism of those singularity of moments is our defined individualized ART. The ONLY requirement of life is to live it under the proclamation of truth, avoiding dogma whenever possible. Allen Ginsberg instilled a construct of a defined self in the population.

    It just occured to me...if all the meaningless things that Allen Ginsberg said and did were unsaid and undone...he wouldn't exist. And this comment wouldn't exist...So in conclusion...meaningless things have a meening to other meaningless thing. And thus there is meaning in everything...which is just as well for Allen!

    even a nightmarish lsd death-trip can be one of the most worthy experiences. the mind can be a very dark place and facing demons one by one may be terrifying.often the most gratifying experiences take some measure of courage, a notion that ought to be inherent in the idea of exploring oneself internally, but a conquest made all the more noble for those same reasons.In the end, the lessons learned by experience are invaluable and arguably the journey inward the single most important.

    Perhaps I would be happier and less bitter, if I spent my life consuming alcohol and just "having fun". People spend their precious moments pursuing personal happiness; now there's a problem. How many great men have spent their life on "having fun"? How many great poets, painters or composers have spent their life in an abundance of happiness? If there are any, then I truly question what was so "great" about them and their happy faces. Enjoy your happiness and leave the thinking to others.

    Ginsberg never considered himself a communist, however he liked the idea of communism and their leaders. But he still wanted the freedoms that we have in America, like freedom of speech and press. He went to communist countries to advocate such things. And like XYZandTime said, he was kicked out of Cuba for protesting against their stance against marijuana (yet he still admired Castro).

  • @cdylan
    @cdylan 15 лет назад

    he supports NAMBLA for its freedom of expression: the unity of sexuality between child and adult. However, i think this is open to much abuse, Allen Ginsberg is exercising his free mind, and he is indeed regardless of this: a fantasic poet.

  • @willem1196
    @willem1196 12 лет назад +1

    He joined NAMBLA as a statement for freedom of expression. He also wrote an essay in 1994 in which he referred to NAMBLA "as a forum for reform of those laws on youthful sexuality which members deem oppressive, a discussion society not a sex club." Ginsberg expressed the opinion that the appreciation of youthful bodies has been a common theme throughout the history of culture and that laws regarding the issue needed to be more openly discussed.

    If you say that, I say that sexual liberation is destructive, and I consider that being worse than being hateful. The evidence suggests that NAMBLA are not "only" simply appreciating male youth, but also engaging in sexual conducts with minors.

    So he opposed capitalism? Then to me he is no better than a communist. I don't see why I shouldn't just call it a competing brand of communism, more close to that of the Frankfurt School of marxists. Whatever revolution Ginsberg spoke of, and means of eliminating capitalism he favored, what certainty is there that these actions wouldn't lead us only to more chaos?

  • @andpyramids

    @McGraffix Definitely agree. LSD is not only a kind, but helpful drug that lets you see inside yourself and out into the far stretches of reality. When treated with respect, it can show us spirit, universe, infinity. I take and have taken LSD and other psychedelics and am a perfectly "normal" person day to day. I just feel more "aware", now.

    I don't feel threatened. But I feel my children are threatened by every expression of communism and marxism, which this individual flirted with. I would rather send my children to the annual meeting of NAMBLA than having them exposed to communism. I wouldn't even need to make the choice in Ginsberg's case.
    I don't have anything to say about the poetry.

    And when you've cleaned your unconsciousness, and the bucket is full of your own dirty thoughts, what do you suppose we'll find? I think that was sort of the point of this clip. Don't distinguish yourself as some unique entity. Ginsberg didn't. I personally don't want to live in your collectively cleansed state. I want Ginsbergs' in the world to disgust or adore. You remember him as a wannabe pedophile, and I'll remember him as a artist who painted with words the oppressive reality of his time.

  • @kristopaivinen
    @kristopaivinen 16 лет назад

    Reservations? So if he would have had some reservations in supporting something such Holocaust denial, why didn't have those reservations about "boy-loving", then? Is boy-loving acceptable in some way, which other controversial topics are not? Do boy-lovers deserve some kinds of rights, which Holocaust deniers do not?
    Even if he was just defending their rights, his lack of reservations on this particular issue is disturbing. Weren't there more tactful ways to support rights, than joining them?

  • @kristopaivinen
    @kristopaivinen 16 лет назад

    I know Ginsberg had no contacts with the Frankfurt School, but his relationship to communism seems more similar to theirs ie. he expressed marxist sympathies while at the same time rejecting party communism. My relationship to the Frankfurt school is nothing like the 'conspiracy nuts'. Unlike the LaRouche trolls,for instance, I just find their approach to be ineffective and somewhat riddled with pseudoscience. I value my personal freedom, but not freedom in the universal sense that you speak of.

Look closely and he REALLy wasn't as intelligent as we think. Even this speech is pseudo-iintellectual and obvious

    where do you get this information about him supporting NAMBLA or child molestors???. Please show some sort of documented evidence that he "supports child molesters" or NAMBLA?. Just cause he was an open homosexual in a time where it wasn't socially accepted,doesn't make him a pedophile.
