Ah! sunflower, weary of time, Who countest the steps of the sun, Seeking after that sweet golden clime Where the traveller's journey is done; Where the youth pined away with desire, And the pale virgin shrouded in snow, Arise from their graves and aspire; Where my sunflower wishes to go.
damn really listen to the words and its awesome. says alot about youtube and the over exposure it can bring... sometimes i dont really put two and two together when i see a video.. these are really people, at one time this really happened... allen ginsberg is the shit
I love Allen Ginsberg. If it weren't for him, we'd all still be living in the oppressive G-rated-only era of Eisenhower. Because of this man's poetry, we've learned to evolve and express our inner souls trapped behind a wall of oppression and conformity. It is because of Allen that I'm not afraid to point out the bad things in the world to try to fix them with what talents I have. I don't care what any uptight official says.I love Ginsberg as I would love my family! He's my hero. RIP
These moments of our lives pass seemingly inconsequential to our conscious minds, one moment at a time. We live in that singular moment, but are defined by it later on. The eloquent poetism of those singularity of moments is our defined individualized ART. The ONLY requirement of life is to live it under the proclamation of truth, avoiding dogma whenever possible. Allen Ginsberg instilled a construct of a defined self in the population.
Thank you very much! We're all merely the product of our own said environments, and unfortunately, not much of anything else. I was rather fortunate in that I had professors who understood this and, made a gallant effort to educate us based upon a more worldly requisite of knowledge, rather than just another static version of some canonized curriculum. That allowed me to view these passages of culture free from all biased attitudes that would've otherwise clouded my overall interpretation.
Mrgyn....Well I guess when you sign-up to become a member of NAMBLA that pretty much explains that you are a member. Plus he had made MANY comments on how it's ok for grown men to love little boys. Mrgyn, why are you defending NAMBLA?
It just occured to me...if all the meaningless things that Allen Ginsberg said and did were unsaid and undone...he wouldn't exist. And this comment wouldn't exist...So in conclusion...meaningless things have a meening to other meaningless thing. And thus there is meaning in everything...which is just as well for Allen!
@McGraffix even a nightmarish lsd death-trip can be one of the most worthy experiences. the mind can be a very dark place and facing demons one by one may be terrifying.often the most gratifying experiences take some measure of courage, a notion that ought to be inherent in the idea of exploring oneself internally, but a conquest made all the more noble for those same reasons. In the end, the lessons learned by experience are invaluable and arguably the journey inward the single most important.
Perhaps I would be happier and less bitter, if I spent my life consuming alcohol and just "having fun". People spend their precious moments pursuing personal happiness; now there's a problem. How many great men have spent their life on "having fun"? How many great poets, painters or composers have spent their life in an abundance of happiness? If there are any, then I truly question what was so "great" about them and their happy faces. Enjoy your happiness and leave the thinking to others.
he supports NAMBLA for its freedom of expression: the unity of sexuality between child and adult. However, i think this is open to much abuse, Allen Ginsberg is exercising his free mind, and he is indeed regardless of this: a fantasic poet.
Ginsberg never considered himself a communist, however he liked the idea of communism and their leaders. But he still wanted the freedoms that we have in America, like freedom of speech and press. He went to communist countries to advocate such things. And like XYZandTime said, he was kicked out of Cuba for protesting against their stance against marijuana (yet he still admired Castro).
He joined NAMBLA as a statement for freedom of expression. He also wrote an essay in 1994 in which he referred to NAMBLA "as a forum for reform of those laws on youthful sexuality which members deem oppressive, a discussion society not a sex club." Ginsberg expressed the opinion that the appreciation of youthful bodies has been a common theme throughout the history of culture and that laws regarding the issue needed to be more openly discussed. "to label pedophilia as criminal is ridiculous."
I think the message is sound especially in a day an age when we neglect to question things we see and hear especially where tone and subjective bushwa (lol bush...wa, classic)are hard to see.. lol... 1:50am im soo lame... its gotta be better than computer science :(
This is pretty trippy! lol. Nothin like some Ginsberg to end the day. I recently added a rare audio recording of an unreleased poem by Ginsberg. It's on my channel. It is definitely worth a look!
The only reason I understand what he's saying is because I've been delving in research of this topic for quite some time(blame Tool :P).But to the average person I can see how he'd sound like a "crackpot".But just remember Bill Hicks..."Here's Tom with the weather." Bill Hicks-Another dead American hero.
If you say that, I say that sexual liberation is destructive, and I consider that being worse than being hateful. The evidence suggests that NAMBLA are not "only" simply appreciating male youth, but also engaging in sexual conducts with minors.
I can safely say you didn't get it, man. "when the work of a genius reaches the ears of a layman only to create an empty sound there is little wonder who's to blame" - Dali
@McGraffix Definitely agree. LSD is not only a kind, but helpful drug that lets you see inside yourself and out into the far stretches of reality. When treated with respect, it can show us spirit, universe, infinity. I take and have taken LSD and other psychedelics and am a perfectly "normal" person day to day. I just feel more "aware", now.
So he opposed capitalism? Then to me he is no better than a communist. I don't see why I shouldn't just call it a competing brand of communism, more close to that of the Frankfurt School of marxists. Whatever revolution Ginsberg spoke of, and means of eliminating capitalism he favored, what certainty is there that these actions wouldn't lead us only to more chaos?
Reservations? So if he would have had some reservations in supporting something such Holocaust denial, why didn't have those reservations about "boy-loving", then? Is boy-loving acceptable in some way, which other controversial topics are not? Do boy-lovers deserve some kinds of rights, which Holocaust deniers do not? Even if he was just defending their rights, his lack of reservations on this particular issue is disturbing. Weren't there more tactful ways to support rights, than joining them?
where do you get this information about him supporting NAMBLA or child molestors???. Please show some sort of documented evidence that he "supports child molesters" or NAMBLA?. Just cause he was an open homosexual in a time where it wasn't socially accepted, doesn't make him a pedophile.
I know Ginsberg had no contacts with the Frankfurt School, but his relationship to communism seems more similar to theirs ie. he expressed marxist sympathies while at the same time rejecting party communism. My relationship to the Frankfurt school is nothing like the 'conspiracy nuts'. Unlike the LaRouche trolls, for instance, I just find their approach to be ineffective and somewhat riddled with pseudoscience. I value my personal freedom, but not freedom in the universal sense that you speak of.
I don't feel threatened. But I feel my children are threatened by every expression of communism and marxism, which this individual flirted with. I would rather send my children to the annual meeting of NAMBLA than having them exposed to communism. I wouldn't even need to make the choice in Ginsberg's case. I don't have anything to say about the poetry.
No one here has done for the English language what this onanistic chattering ape has done for it. Given the notion that language and thought are tightly intertwined, I guess that puts some comments here in the right perspective.
I've been a fan of Ginsberg for many years. Read his poetry, heard his songs and read his biographies. However; it is becoming clearer and clearer this man was not at that he's cracked up to be. Look closely and he REALLy wasn't as intelligent as we think. Even this speech is pseudo-iintellectual and obvious
And when you've cleaned your unconsciousness, and the bucket is full of your own dirty thoughts, what do you suppose we'll find? I think that was sort of the point of this clip. Don't distinguish yourself as some unique entity. Ginsberg didn't. I personally don't want to live in your collectively cleansed state. I want Ginsbergs' in the world to disgust or adore. You remember him as a wannabe pedophile, and I'll remember him as a artist who painted with words the oppressive reality of his time.
He's a man of many talents. He does poetry AND children.
There is just something lovable about ginsberg. What he just said was complete bollocks but bollocks with such enthusiasm and vigor!
this is such an honest bit. Just a man in a moment of childlike wonder about technology, which is his reality.
Ah! sunflower, weary of time,

sounds like "self-remembering". an important lesson at any rate!
I've never seen this footage of ginsberg before!
thanks
I love how he plays on the concept of reality
You are a fan of nonsense.
Well said, sir. I applaud your thorough explanation and understanding.
what a beautiful mind--this man
Thankyou!... I literally almost applaused
You mean "applauded", you goof!

I am going to favorite this and watch it again next time I'm stoned.
So you are saying he never made those comments of supporting NAMBLA?

Good old Ginsberg
@1988bluemoon man, I thought i was the only one thinking about him too...
Ironic that this is on youtube. Where its only 0's and 1's.
This is interesting but I've thought about it many times independent of his input.
Ginsberg is a genius
This is not to be judged as true or false.
It is just one way to perceive the world.
@Ryan2142 Great poem, you are a genius.
Yes it does
So when is the ah, sunflower going to be available on DVD. It was supposed to come out in August. Now it's October.
2012 the song - Harry Loco the missing link between the 60's and the future !
2012 SUMMER OF LOVE
Mrgyn....Well I guess when you sign-up to become a member of NAMBLA that pretty much explains that you are a member. Plus he had made MANY comments on how it's ok for grown men to love little boys. Mrgyn, why are you defending NAMBLA?
A great voice...in all ways...
He was a NAMBLA member if you didn't know. No joke. Look it up.
It just occured to me...if all the meaningless things that Allen Ginsberg said and did were unsaid and undone...he wouldn't exist. True. What he says, Digital Age Comes Like Rage.
I understood it for a split second and have to say, it was pretty amazing. I concur with @celshaer. Why aren't people like this on TV nowadays?

@McGraffix this is also true for me.
umm i dont no anything about this guy but i dont understand what he is getting at? he sounds pretty deep
wtf did he just say?
haha, I hate to love Ginsberg, but I really love to love 'im.

I understand that. Personal victory for Emily.
@McGraffix Share the love, man, share the love.
@Bolsjevikpirayan Hell ya!

I love you, too.
I also hear he does poetry, isn't that neat?
ahmen caleb
Mrgyn...Your the one who called me an ignoramus.....How soon do we forget? I'll accept you apology NOW.
It's irrelevant whether or not he thought it was brilliant. He probably knew that it wasn't. But i think it is. He probably knew people would.
Does this make sense at all?
... This guy was high all the time...
Allen Ginsberg openly supports NAMBLA, this is a fact. Research it yourself and einsatzdeath just gave you the facts as well.
haha he probably couldn't imagene at that time that people would watch him 40 years later on an internet stream^^
drug babble might be the smartest thing to hit media since the advent of television
hey man, you need to caaaallllmmm down
you are. it's about escaping the false entertainment-reality front that television lures us into, not about the actual physical mechanics.
Much like my "descriptive fact" was to you.
@ZLUGGO
Not to me.
Ginsberg was always mad, completely out of his mind. Always, I really mean it. That's how it is with true loons.
The only reason I understand what he's saying is because I've been delving in research of this topic for quite some time(blame Tool :P).But to the average person I can see how he'd sound like a "crackpot".But just remember Bill Hicks..."Here's Tom with the weather." actually he became buddhist and his longtime boyfriend peter olovsky doesnt seam to be that much younger than him...

back in 2007 when I first saw this I thought it was banal, now 14 years on I must say it is awful

Devil.
He's a tool. Spit it out Ginsberg.
Tool sucks, Ginsberg rules.
vastly overrated
Gibberish.
