At 3:00, that rock bluff was incredible. I am always truly amazed by GOD'S wonders. Wonderful protection from the weather also. I really like how everything you do has purpose. Like to think it is your faith in GOD. May HE bless your endeavors and you and your family. Take care my friend.
I'm sure I said it before on a previous episode, but this is by far and away one of my favourite series of videos, bringing primitive and bushcraft skills together in a historical context is a unique way of demonstrating these skills. Someone get this man an Emmy! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@@briansherrillruralliving9708 James has done great with this series 👏🏼 And I enjoy the other videos too but I hope these can continue to run in parallel. 👏🏼🙏🏼
@@AggyGoesOutdoors you can say that again. I guess this would be my favorite RUclips channel. There's other good ones out there but I like this one the best, especially when the 1790s series is on. I'm a little biased though as I'm into 18th Century stuff lol
James, I am glad you make a point of show how he sleeps AWAY from where he eats. That practice alone could mean life and death when it comes to wild predators.
Yes indeed. While it's not always possible to do that, it is a very good idea, especially when there are known to be predators about. Thank you for watching!
Another interesting insight on how hard life was in those days, his wife and children would have had a hard time too not knowing if they would ever see him again. I enjoyed the primitive canoe trip across the river it looked risky but then everything was on the trail. Thank you for putting this series together.
Thank you for watching! He is able to send a letter from time to time back home so they are at least somewhat cognizant of his journeys and difficulties.
What a joy to awaken and find a new episode. I know these are a lot of work and takes time away from the family, but they are very enjoyable. Time to reflect on a simpler time and appreciate how blessed we are. Thank you my friend for all do.
Once again an excellent episode that leaves me wanting to see more. The effort you have put into this is astounding. Love every second of it and appreciate what you do very much.
Thank you for another awesome video in this series! I know the efforts to keep this as authentic as possible have been great on your part, and it is greatly appreciated. I can get a glimpse of what my ancestors had to go thru coming up from Virginia to settle here in East KY. Thank you for the history lesson! May the Lord continue to bless you Mr.Bender!
Thank you so much, glad you're enjoying the series! Indeed, our ancestors had struggles far beyond what most of us can conceive, and yet they thrived in the wilderness and built us a nation. God bless you too!
I know the feeling of finally arriving to a place after a long time and a long journey... I felt it when I saw Alaska for the first time. What elation! What relief! Now it is my home, but I'll never forget how wonderful it was when we first arrived (and still is). Well done on the videos... I particularly like the way the Traveller pays attention to details, and always scatters his camps and fires so no one will know he was there. We don't see that much these days, but back then small details were a matter of life and death, and no one took that for granted. Now it's fashionable to leave garbage lying around. Go figure. Peace to you from Alaska.
Amazing just loved this series watched all in one afternoon. I kept wanting more episodes. Showed how important their supplies were, something as simple as cork for fishing, a spoon for mealtime.
You know you have achieved something great when you leave people wanting the next episode now! LOLOL. Really love this kind of educational series. I was a firefighter/emt in the Dayton Ohio area for 25 years. Showing what people went through with a broken leg was well done. All I kept thinking of was infection and blood loss and how that would have many times led to an amputation or death, even in well established cities.
Thank you so much! Actually, being in the outdoors with clean air and non-GMO food, would have been a great aid in being healthy and recovering from sicknesses. Honey was and is a great antibacterial and was often used on the frontier to great effect. Most of us have been historically influenced by the number of amputations in the Civil war, which was mostly because of the lack of time and the nature of the catastrophic injuries by the weaponry they were using. During colonial times, it was quite common to survive a broken leg like this and have no lasting effects nor need amputation. Thank you for watching!
Not only entertaining but educational too. I'm really loving this series. Thanks so much for making and all the people who are helping. God bless and stay safe.
this series is awesome!!! hope it continues for ages! really get the feeling of the characters, feels so... real! i can almost feel myself undertaking the journey! and its brilliant!

This is the first episode I've watched and I didn't know you were portraying it as an old time series I thoroughly enjoyed and gonna go back and binge watch the last ten episodes to get caught up
I am absolutely loving this series of videos. Can’t get enough 👍this really shows you how it was back then. Thank you for putting your time in to show us this adventure 🥰
I enjoy watching this story of james bender. In the fronter days. in this last episode thats was a beautiful scene with the river and the wilderness ( woods) .
Another fine episode. Beautiful rock outcropping you were filming at . Bacon always lifts my spirits as well. The Ohio is much larger than I expected. Thanks for the diligent work . Have a great day
Thank you so much. The Ohio is actually a very large river and averages a half a mile in width and over a mile in with around Louisville Kentucky at its widest.
Thank you for watching. Yes, I am fortunate to have friends that own this on private land so I was able to use this down in Kentucky right near the very area where he would have traveled through during this time period. Actually, I have found quite a few flint shards there and partial arrowheads. Evidently, this rock shelter had been used for hundreds of years by the native Americans, so, it was a really neat privilege to be able to film there and gave me quite a feeling of connection to the actual history of the time period.
This is one of the best series on RUclips, I'm in Southern Indiana and my family settled this area along the banks of the Ohio along with Daniel Boones brother Squire. You are reenacting what my ancestors did.
I can't say it enough, this is an outstanding series James. I look forward to every episode and the scenery on this one was just breathtaking. Makes one long for simpler times. Thank you brother James for all the time, effort and expense you put into each episode. God bless my friend!
I continue to enjoy this series. Thank you for giving us all a little glimpse of what it may have been like for a good God-fearin' man that was trying to give his family a better shot at life, and take a chance on an unknown area. Nothing was guaranteed and luck had more than a little to do with success, and even survival. Keep up the good work, sir.
Great story. I couldn’t imagine living in an area where I had to constantly watch for attack. Seems like that constant stress an anxiety would wear one down pretty quickly.

Yes you can. However, they often did have wood fires as long as it seems safe. Also, in the year 1794 most of the hostilities had pretty well ceased.

Thank you for watching, and glad that you are enjoying the series!
This series it totally addictive. I only wish that the episodes would come sooner and closer together. Thank you for the enjoyment, the entertainment, and the original content. Please keep 'em coming.
Thank you so much! Is a significant amount of work to put together a series like this by myself and on a very small budget. I also have to wait on the generosity of others for filming at the various locations and that just takes time. We are currently filming and working on episode 12.
Excellent! Loved it!
Thank you so much!
