You just don't know how helpful your videos are to me. From my heart, thank you. I hope you know just how important you are to the community. Thank God for you.
Absolutely. When she mentioned fighting off the first wave of sleepiness. I learned the hard way fighting off sleep to watch a program or finish a project just aint worth it. Now when that wave occurs I shut it down.
I never allow my phone in my bedroom. It sits, charging, in the adjacent bathroom, where only urgent calls and morning alarms can be heard. Highly recommended. Good luck all.
Dr. Marks, thank you so much for all that you do. I've suffered from lifelong depression, severe anxiety, and OCD. I'm currently heavily medicated, which helps a lot, but is basically a bandaid on a bullet hole. I love your videos and book, 'Why Am I Anxious', so much because it explains the "why". Understanding just a little how my brain works versus a "normal" brain has been tremendously helpful in feeling less alone in my mental health struggles. I've not gotten a single explanation about why I am the way I am (I am very fortunate to have experienced no major trauma in my life) and that I was literally just born with a brain that works differently. That is indescribably comforting, and something I wish I'd known so much earlier on. Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for you. 🙂
💡 "What makes you lose sleep, the role of the brain" is explained very easily at [6:45]! Through that, I realized how important psychological care and maintaining balance in life are. Thank you for sharing useful information to help people better understand their bodies! ❤
Hey! This video is fully loaded. I need to control my wake time. My body alarm waking me up by 2am is just too active. How to adjust the alarm is my challenge. I need to watch this video severally for proper and strict implementation of recommendations. Thanks a million, Doctor!
Thank you! My sleep problem is that I can go to sleep if I go to bed, but there is always something to know that can wait until tomorrow. I don’t have any anxiety, by the way; I have ADHD. I get such a dopamine rush from examining something new. It can be something minute. Then there’s social media RUclips. I really enjoy your explanations. Keep up the good work 😊 I’m looking forward to part 2.
This is a powerful video. I have a family member currently dealing with insomnia and this makes things so clear. I feel like this hit the nail on the head. Now, how to get them the assistance they need to get back on their circadian rhythm… 😊
I am a bad sleeper, and it helps me to listen to an audiobook with a story that is calm and I set the speed to 0.60, that way it is like a bedtime story. Hope this can help others too, although it doesn't always help in general I do fall sleep faster
This is so eye opening. I have been awake for 2 months on 3 different occasions. They did every test on me and said i was just stress. I microdosed psilocybin and it fixed it, but im still in the process of healing. Taking d3 and k2 with magnesium and zinc and b6/1.
Thank you for always educating us abt sleep. Since i was a child i always get anxious during bedtime(due to trauma, familiarity, etc). I just cant sleep peacefully but ur videos help me a lot understanding myself more🙏❤
This is a very timely video. I learned a lot and feel more prepared to work on my sleep hygiene and rhythms. I also ordered the book “Why Am I So Anxious”. Can’t wait for it to arrive. Thanks so much, Dr. Marks, all of your videos are extremely helpful and informative 👍❤️
Your videos are so educational, they allow me to understand myself better. I complement my therapy with your knowledge and my appointments with my psychiatrist. Thank you for the great content.
@@DrTraceyMarks Hope you can enjoy your son if he's home and family generally over the long holiday weekend. I taught the pleasant events/accumulate positive experiences DBT skill in a group recently. In teaching it, I saw it's not about distraction or escaping from life troubles - but actively building and making things in your life that you enjoy. And holidays, above all, should be for enjoying your family if you have them home with you.
Ive had insomnia for about 4 years now. Tried different meds and didnt work. While it has gotten somewhat better over the years i still have the same problem since day 1. I wake up several times throughout my sleep cycle. So i can sleep 7-8 hours, but ill wake up like every 4-5 hours sometimes 3-4 its very inconsistent lmao. Speaking to a counselor or therapist also helps me as well. And walking/jogging!
God bless you 🙏 ❤️ 🙌 Very informative video especially the box breathing for anxiety and calming your mind The boring thing to do if one cant sleep ... good examples are solving mathematical problems and reading the scripture whichever one follows 😊
This is me from last 6 months . I have to force sleep many time. Sometimes I get panic attacks about the fear of losing someone who are near n dear to me . Fail Future prospects and past failures And so on .. even the breathing techniques feels heavy to me .
I'm at the point with my insomnia where no amount of sleep hygiene (and reduced sleep anxiety; I've accepted whether I'll sleep well or not), blackout curtains, ear plugs, eye masks, screen-free time, "boring" activities, etc. will help me stay asleep through the night. Currently waiting for a sleep study to see if there's something else going on, but it's going to be a long wait. Do you have any videos or information to share on sleep issues with neurodivergence?
THank you for this, I have this issue often , where I can't stop my brain from running, I really want to sleep, but often takes hours to fall asleep, so frustrating, since I need to get early/. Averaging about 4 hours a night currently
I have struggled with insomnia since I was a baby! My mom said I would stay up all the time and would not nap. I have an anxiety disorder, am hyperactive and struggle to slow down and relax despite many coping skills (regular exercise, meditation, journaling, reading, no caffeine, no alcohol, regular bedtime and wake time, etc.) Are some of us just highly anxious and wired to the point where we naturally don't sleep much? I get an average of about 5 hours of sleep.
I have had perimenopause insomnia since I was 34 I'm 38 now and since my blood tests were always saying I don't have it they've just throw trazadone at me instead of hrt. Yay doctors are not fun at all now and I hate them for not taking early menopause symptoms seriously always telling me I'm "too young" for it 😑 I slept just fine from age 0-33 so they are very wrong
Same! My symptoms started around 40/41. Then kicked off enough for me to see my providers. They sent me everywhere to rule out other medical causes and when those were negative they acted as if nothing to do, but I was suffering! Finally got someone to listen to me about peri and now I’m on HRT. Still trying to figure out my balance but at least I know what’s going on now ❤
I have all of the symptoms of chronic insomnia. I've told my healthcare providers. They say reduce screen time. Have done that. Still did not help. I've stopped sleep meds after 30 yrs because they weren't helping. I thought after 4 months I would've leveled off but did not. Wanted to give me Guanfacine(unfocused ADHD) but I hated the way it made me feel the next day and it was just another med. I get so sleepy during the day and try to fight it. Also at around 7 p.m. No caffeine after early morning. Still cannot fall asleep. So frustrating!
Thanks for the breakdown! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
I use to have racing thoughts that kept me awake or impaired my staying asleep but therapy and mindfulness meditation helped with that but now I’m going through menopause and nothing seems to be helping. I went from bedtime by 11 pm to 1,2,3 even 4 am sometimes and nothing seems to help. Idk what to do and unfortunately this video won’t help. I guess HRT might be my only hope😞
Pls guide if possible Sleep quality affected after exercise, even when done in morning time. Have been suffering from last 15 years and doctors in India have no clue. Pregabalin+Duloxetine combination worked for me. But still exact cause is not known. I will highly appreciate if you can help. Namaskar from India
Can you do an update on any new information or studies on that Lavender Augustafolia stuff you had talked about in an older video? Is it true that it can replace colensapam (can't spell it can't even say it but you probably know what I mean) and atavan and all that other stuff? I don't like how colensapam calanopam clonenzopam whatever makes me so tired and weak it is as if the stuff actually weakens my muscles not just relaxes me. I don't need that much relaxation. And what is the lavender stuff's shelf life I still have some but don't remember when I bought it.
Is a sleep wake disorder like insomnia curable?or is it permanent a life time commitment of seeing medics and combing all lines of treatment? You medics usually tackle Secondary or comorbid insomnia through content creation and we do Google on sleep disorders and you will always give an explanation somewhat satisfactory. What about Primary or idiopathic insomnia? Being under"Stress"equals a risk of developing insomnia? No.What about the non organic sleep wake disorder!!!
I have very little difficulty going to sleep, it's when I wake up a few hours later (usually bladder), and then the anxiety thoughts kick in, and I can't go back to sleep for over an hour no matter how much cognitive love talk I give myself... :/
What if you don't "feel" anxious, worried, depressed, etc but still cannot sleep? I'm at the happiest time of my life but I still cannot sleep! I've been depressed in my 20s, but at least then I knew WHY I couldn't sleep. I don't feel worried, depressed, anxious, stressed, etc, but my brain refuses to shut down. Idk what to do
Good Morning everyone! Thank you Dr, Marks This video was very helpful. I don't know how you learned all of this but one thing is for sure you 🤱 are good on your job. what type of ocd you have ? and what is severe anxiety ?
I had no clue about the existence of sleep drive and wake drive. Super informative!!! Thanks a lot!
You’re welcome!!
Keep sleep and drive separated tho

25 years ago I had these sleeping problems: when I was covered up it was too hot to sleep and when I was uncovered I was too cold and couldn't sleep.

Been up since 2 am, yes please 😂 thanks dr marks!
2am yikes! 😳 I hope you get some rest later. 😊
These details were super informative, thank you doc. You described many things I was unable to put words to it
Thank you beautiful, may God bless you always ❤

I could not sleep last night. I think I finally fell asleep around 4 AM.
Oh look. It's happening right now to me. Hello fellow people that should be asleep right now!
👋 hi hi
Thank you Dr Marks. I have chronic insomnia. This was very interesting and informative.
Another so good information about sleep. Thank you sooooo much Dr. Tracey!

I cant remember my brain actually working with me instead of against anything I do😅
Talk about sleep apnea next please and thank you Dr. Marks! Have a happy Thanksgiving 😊

Intresting i been fighting sleep for 30 years :p
Would you please make a video why I wake up after 5 hours sleep and then I can’t go to sleep while I am sleepy
She discusses some of that in last week video on Sleep cycles. Sleep maintenence insomnia is pretty commo, and there are tips in that video.
What if you don't "feel" anxious, worried, depressed, etc but still cannot sleep? I'm at the happiest time of my life but I still cannot sleep!

1:52 I can't sleep because of my Orexin 😂😂😂
Normotim is an excellent product! I feel calmer and more focused. Did it help you too?
It gets dark so early now. I need to start sleeping well so I get enough sunlight.
My head is full of chemicals i produce myself
And it's 1 AM here
So if everynight I need 2 hours till I fall asleep it’s chronic? I thought that is normal..
I take a sleep tab an it still take her+ to get off
Please make your videos in Hinglish (Hindi+English). Technical words should be pronounced in English.
How can I go back to English?
Thank God I sleep like a log
Please help me with panic attack
