There are unaccountable amazing ways of re using waste and produce more incredible useful items. We need more business like this to be erected in oceanic countries to provide employments and boost up their government capital.
America's the most wasteful they're not as resourceful as other places in Europe. America's more about money I find other countries are more about health and trying to fix what is better for the people.
7:00... Well, if those flowers contain arsenic, cadmium and the like, they sure should not go contaminating the river. But I'm still in doubt whether the idea of turning them into incense sticks and subesquently inhaling the heavy metals makes more sense health-wise. (Okay, people are using incene anyway and thus would be sourcing more fresh flowers, so the double use cuts down on that. Oh well...)
I love these ideas! All we need is for new plastic to be just a penny more expensive than recycled plastic and then there will be incentive for companies to use recycled materials. A penny per ton would be enough to shift the big businesses mindset on the matter.
It's pretty terrible to watch this hour and more program on dealing with waste and knowing that the US is doing pretty much *NONE* of it whatsoever. Small businesses in the US are, but none of the big companies are going to bother without some heavy duty regulation or *insane* taxes on their waste (and the waste they deliver to consumers to dispose of - excess and non-recyclable single use packaging, ect).
My hats off to the people involved in UPCYCLING the used chopstick ! I, myself UPCYCLE, I make round padded chairs that swivel from used tires and I use bicycle tire painted and decorated with a mirror in the center for a wall mirror.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. In that order. We should not be relying on recycling as the main solution. The only reason it takes the front page is because it encourages more consumerism, aka more profit.
This was the only one which I thought was the most controversial since algae are living organisms. So we’re basically killing the living organisms that small sea life feed on to create a product that would otherwise end up in the small and big sea life environment. The pro’s to this is that they’re farming the algae they could never extract it from the sea since it’s too small. This leaving the sea habitat unbothered. The cons is that there’s a carbon foot print to farm the algae.
Why do you need chopsticks . It’s just a bloody status thing to show everyone in an Asian restaurant that westerners know how to use chopsticks pffft . . I’m 73 years old and I eat Chinese food with a spoon and fork . Leave the chopsticks to the Asian people and do something to save our planet.
These ideas are all so awesome! It’s my dream to work of a company that’s part of the solution. I have a question though.. Isn’t it also toxic and bad for people to burn the incense made of flowers that contain all of those toxic chemicals in the second segment?

Love these types of videos :) Regarding the bread in France... If a bakery makes 50 banquettes a day but only 40 sell.. then the following day they should only make 40. This would reduce the left over bread, no ?
Not necessarily. If a business is constantly sold out because it didn't produce enough, it leads to a reduction in business over the long term. Consumers tend to spend less time in an understocked shop/bakery than they do in a fully stocked one. It is a hard balance to reach and ultimately will produce waste based on common consumer habits. We could change the habits in time, but until then the waste needs a way to be used.
@@laurent3415 good point. In my country, we call this "hungry eye phenomenon", where we decide to take a product out of large bundle instead that one that's sitting alone on the shelf. But on the other hand, in our culture, bread was never wasted. Bread crumbs are one of the most common products, sold by bakeries, supermarkets, small grocery stores etc. We also make them at home by simply drying pieces of bread and grinding them in a food processor, blender or in a simple pestle and mortar.
@@a_l_e_k_sandra Exactly, we do the same since decades, always dry our left over bread in grind them for several uses, now adding it to pastries and cakes is a surplus.
I’ve worked in the restaurant/bar business in the US for 23+ years. Lauren T is absolutely right. We work on a par system, but if we have 40 steaks and 41 guests that want a steak, that 41st guest complains to us and their social circle, they get something free in return, and the odds that any of those people come back when they can go next door is hugely decreased. It’s a constant balancing act. You know Americans; better to have more than you need and throw the extra away than to ever have less.
Our local bakery routinely cuts unsold, bread into cubes or crumbs, for resale. I do that with my own bread. I put the cubes into buttered bakeware, along with any appropriate 'leftovers' & herbs, pour well blended eggs, and topping of grated cheese, and it becomes a dish called a Wifesaver. It can be frozen or stored 4 days in the fridge. Delicious.
It's amazing we put so much of protecting the environment on the consumer and none on the corporation. I threw out more edible food and plastic waste in a day working at a Kroger deli than I do at home in a year. Composting was a joke; we were told not to use the bags because they were too expensive.
Bought 4 metal raised beds like yours on special for next year's gardens. Summer project was putting in a solid wood fence. Hope this will keep the deer out. They even chewed off the tops of my tomatoes. Put side supports so the soil won't bow out the sides of the raised beds.Have already started composting on the bottoms.
This really hit home. I had no idea how bad things are and how we all should be using these sources. Really made me think. I love the first one, the recycled chopsticks. Am going to look into this one more. I really hope that the IKEA recycling takes off.
The environment is the least of your worries right now. Landfills are a more than acceptable place to put our waste. Plus, they are way more environmentally friendly than recycling plastics. Unfortunately, everyone has been sold the recycling lie.
Love the banana rug idea! Some of them are beautiful also. Have this on later and missed some of this video and walked in on that. Much love to that company from the US. I compost a lot to garden but I’d imagine chopping and chipping all those bananas so often would be a lot of work! Banana is great in fertilizer/compost though!
Most disposable Chopsticks are made of bamboo which is a grass that readily grows. It is quite sustainable if we use it to heat homes or make charcoal briquettes for grills. The carbon cycle continues to the air and the bamboo turns it into chopsticks.
Kinda true. However the tables they're making are also replacing ones that might have been made from wood, metal or other materials. So the effect is larger than you're portraying.
Plant more trees and plants and flowers that don’t take up tons of water. Too many people are making their land and yards like dirt . Stop running your cars for no reason. I look at the fashion industry segments and think that, if more people knew how to mend clothes, this might not be such a huge problem. Also, it's the reason I shop mainly at second-hand places.
Plastic spoons and forks might be uselss in my opinion I mean we have metal ones we can reuse over and over again But since we humans are lazy we made plastic ones that are convenient for use as with all other things There are metal chopsticks as well
My old school used to use metal utensils but they said students broke them but why make metal utensils that cheap when the school gets so much money? *this is why I do cyberschool*
And the plastic forks or spoons often are not able to pick up a bite of food with. Knives seem clumsy and cannot cut a piece of meat. Fork tines snap off on hard plastic ware and the softer ones bend double. 🤔 A complete waste. So much real silverware available in thrift stores.
This is science at its best, As we grow, record, and save data, we can improve our way of life. This one time item for reuse is a great way to show innovation. Kudos to everyone . We know how long these throw aways can last. Now, thanks to Sheila, they are being used for something better that needs to last. That's discovery. One thing leads to another and then you may find its true glory. I think the patterns created now by this unique press, thank you again, that it can be made thinner as a vineer to save on sticks. to many are wasted in the thickness now. This can be a nice texture like natural grain wood, only better.
so recycled chopstick furniture is comparable to genuine hard wood furniture, 3-4x the price of IKEA furniture. This is where recycling just gets ignored, it's necessary but the masses won't pay more for reused products. It just won't happen.

Thank you so much for all the work everyone has put into this I'm excited to get a pair of shoes and make a difference! You people are planet heros
Incredible inventions! I hope people will start to realize about waste problem.
Congratulations on your new achievement,

Personally I save my chopsticks for reuse I used it for all kinds of things I’m a painter used to stir paint, mix glue and various sorts of projects I do not waste them they’re really useful also mixing Apoxsee.
Same, I save or tend to save all my plastic utensils 😂
I will definitely buy those flip flops get them in the shops as soon as possible it’s brilliant
There is hope for our beautiful planet because of these incredible pioneers and innovators. I am so inspired and grateful and sorta kinda wish I were as scientifically smart. Love this video.
Agreed!
Well you can team up with material scientists and engineers to make ideas happen! Teams of people from all different backgrounds made these things happen. I’m sure you have something great to bring to the table!

Using the temple flowers for incense is very resourceful xx
so instead we burn those harmful chemicals in our own home and breathe it in? none of these ideas are actually good
absolutely fabulous....blown away by people's ingenuity.
There are unaccountable amazing ways of re using waste and produce more incredible useful items. We need more business like this to be erected in oceanic countries to provide employments and boost up their government capital.
What do you mean by "boost up their government capital"?
America's the most wasteful they're not as resourceful as other places in Europe. America's more about money I find other countries are more about health and trying to fix what is better for the people.
Massive insanely great! Many benefits for recycling like this. For one creates jobs and reduces pollution!
The memorial reef thing should be here in Australia, too- it could be very beneficial...

Human intuition and natures intuition combines 100% efficiency well done
Oh well...)
Most sustainable option is to realise God does not to be worshiped by cutting flowers. They shall stay alive.
The US and other big countries just send their trash to poor countries to deal with.
Companies do "green" because it improves profits and claim "green"
My hats off to the people involved in UPCYCLING the used chopstick ! I, myself UPCYCLE, I make round padded chairs that swivel from used tires and I use bicycle tire painted and decorated with a mirror in the center for a wall mirror.
I hope there is something we can do it locally. Today, our recycling system is confusing and we also don't know where things really end up.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. In that order.
We should not be relying on recycling as the main solution. The only reason it takes the front page is because it encourages more consumerism, aka more profit.
Bamboo is widely used in the making of cutlery as it is the fastest-growing plant that is earth-friendly.
These are amazing business ideas.
Huge respect for all of these great people. hopefully, we can adopt those ideas, then especially in my country
It's so inspiring. Thank you for this video.
Ya, I love the idea of not creating any garbage or food waste in the first place or at least the smallest amount possible 🙌👍👊🌎⭐️⭐️
The Algae Flip-Flops sound like a great pitch on Shark Tank.
The cons is that there’s a carbon foot print to farm the algae.
did not realize there were so many chopsticks thrown away. AMAZING
When are you releasing so expensive season 6 marathon? It's been 8 months since season 5

There's no reason I can think of that the extractor device should be $1000-$10000.
Low demand, waste of time to build it for any less.
No, you have to research more.

Thanks a lot. The video was very entertaining but also informative.
You will never get rid of waste or clean the planet as long as humans are around,The sooner we are gone the better the planet will be.
@@newolde1 also kinda true, how much carbon is in our atmosphere?
Hint: not enough to bother (less than .4% or 0.0004)
Yes Sheila, I take my hat off to you. Good job!!!
ahhhh the IRISH lad! "ohhh jaysus you can take your frustration out on them there"
Amazing! So happy about all this!❤
Plant more trees and plants and flowers that don’t take up tons of water. Too many people are making their land and yards like dirt . Stop running your cars for no reason. I have next door neighbors that just run one to three cars for 30- to two hours and no one is in the car! Start ticketing cars that emit black smoke.
we individuals shouldn’t be at fault for running cars or burning stuff instead you should be mad at the global corporations
@@NcR2004 I am pretty sure emmitting black smoke does get you charged.
@@NcR2004 stop blaming the corporations it’s up to us including myself who need to make the change supply and demand if we stop wanting or doing things that benefits the companies or buying their products then they are forced to change or else they won’t exist anymore

THis was such a fascinating video, I love watching videos of how things are made and as this is about recycling it is particularly interesting, so any more would be welcome to see.
The biggest problem is that most people don't even think about what happens to their garage after it goes into the trash can.
A very interesting documentary. :)
Many thanx for the U/L
I’ve literally been given like 10 straws for 3 drinks before.
Recycled food. It's good for the environment and OK for you....
Just love the line and had to say it but I definitely didn't' know about some of these and found it very interesting!
If we don't save Earth, he will give us the worst consequence unimaginable. Eliminate humans and start all over again.
that will happen anyways whether we like it or not
I think that you are so right on your thoughts. I ❤ your shows
damn, they took “trash pc’s” to a whole new level
I look at the fashion industry segments and think that, if more people knew how to mend clothes, this might not be such a huge problem. Also, it's the reason I shop mainly at second-hand places.
Companies make waste: nothing
Consumers try to dump waste: OUTRAGE!
Plastic spoons and forks might be uselss in my opinion I mean we have metal ones we can reuse over and over again
But since we humans are lazy we made plastic ones that are convenient for use as with all other things
There are metal chopsticks as well
My old school used to use metal utensils but they said students broke them but why make metal utensils that cheap when the school gets so much money? *this is why I do cyberschool*
Ikr you need only one set of metal cuttlery that lasts for ever. Why give the plastic ones in the first place
The NEXT thing to do with the bio mass is add COMPOSTING worms. They will make it into extremely nutritious soil.
People that keep hope alive is a good thing, in thier ideas of making this world a better place!
so recycled chopstick furniture is comparable to genuine hard wood furniture, 3-4x the price of IKEA furniture. This is where recycling just gets ignored, it's necessary but the masses won't pay more for reused products. It just won't happen.
It's also got a large amount of added acrylic.
