      Hi Robert. Your comment means a lot. I am selling my house in Michigan to be mobile to follow innovation around the country. I think some developments such as unintrusive police verification(social media linked with either license plates or invisible QR code markers) should occur to accomodate what will be the coming trend of mobile citizens. Coming extremely low travel costs(driverless/EVs) will contribute to mobility for all. Millenials will be even more mobile due to low home ownership due to stagnant wages and student debt(like this young man they may need some years to get solvent). Also mobility during youth provides a service to businesses/communities in the form of cheap labor and efficient skill matching. The youtube channels like this guy's may provide assurance to the helpful like you and police. I met a young woman living out of her small car in San Fran attending a university; it was slightly dismaying because she grew up there. Previously many people living in cars had been wildcards one wouldn't want to gamble association with.

    Don't pay a $1.50 to park on the Embarcadero. There is plenty of free parking up the other way on Marina Blvd. I don't think I have ever paid for parking in SF. Also the Muni is you friend. Learn the routes. It's easy to park in a free area and take a short bus or streetcar ride to where ever you need to go. You just need to learn the routes.

    As a native San Franciscan it's awesome to see you exploring places I know so well. There is so much to see and do in the city, but try to look down and avoid stepping in human waste downtown. I have lived in the East Bay, the Peninsula, and I currently live in Sonoma County in the North Bay. There is so much more to see in the SF Bay Area than just the city though. Hopefully you will get out and explore the entire area. The guy that suggested Mt Diablo was right on, except, you can drive to the top instead of hiking. The views from the top will blow away your subscribers who have never been there. Consider crossing the Golden Gate Bridge north, Marin county is well worth seeing and so is the wine country.

    We used to live in the East Bay in Contra Costa County in Concord, CA. Older house on a matchbook lot, 26 1/2 miles to downtown SF. Cost: $550,000 for a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath. Van life is MUCH more affordable and makes a whole lot of sense! Walnut Creek, CA (near Concord, CA) is a neat East Bay community with really good restaurants and shopping areas. Free parking there would not be a problem either and there are some beautiful areas there. Love your videos and that includes this one. You hit upon the basic principles of stealth camping-great job!

Louis and with less than 600 miles on the van it started giving me trouble. Made it to Vienna Illinois to a Ford dealership. Throttle body easy fast fix. 4hours later the computer in the new van is messed up. They will order one tomorrow get it on Thursday fixed by Friday hopefully. The fun is just beginning. It does take up some space inside, but the benefit is that you'd be able to leave your van parked more often.
    Our shop is at 7th and Market, a mile and a half from your first parking spot. From there to here takes less than seven minutes by bike, less time than you might spend just finding a parking space.
    Drop by the shop some time while you're in town and I can show you the advantages.

    If you are looking for a little variety with the nicest weather in the city, try driving around Potrero Hill a bit. It has good access to downtown and the Mission District and is a bit insulated from the hyper activity of the more touristy areas. There is a nice park with a view on the corner of Vermont St and 20th St, which also has a windy road leading off the hill. The neighborhood is more residential and some apartment buildings are in the area. Stealth might work for a few nights there while trying to break it up a bit. Also nearby are Whole Foods, Trader Joes and Costco. Thanks for the videos. It is interesting to see how the Nissan is working out. Because of the size limitations common in the Bay Area, you appear to have made an excellent choice.

    I also got the van travel bug and had the same dilemma for the best van to buy. I also considered getting the pop top for standing room and an extra bed. I have considered Nissan, but like you mentioned the quality is not what it used to be, but is the lesser of evils (Ford, Dodge Promaster). I have looked at the Mercedes Metris, because it was non-American, but I didn't like the fact that needs premium octane. It's too bad Toyota does not have a commercial van available in North America, but exists elsewhere.
    As for parking, there are residential areas in the city, Richmond and Sunset that are quiet neighborhoods to park. There are areas of commercial zones on Irving St., Noreiga St., Taraval St. If you want peace and quiet, you can park on Wawona St. closest to the Stern Grove park, on the street where the Sava Pool meets 19th Ave.
    Glad to see you're in the SF Bay Area. I live by Colma and if you need a driveway to park, shower, and a clothes washer available if you need.

      @UbuntoO There is lots of help for these people. Thinking it's okay for one to crap in the street is only enabling them to keep doing it. I have compassion and I feel bad they made the wrong decisions. I was homeless for 3 years, and I know what it's like. With hard work and N.A. I got off the drugs and worked my ass off to get better. Today I have six kids a wife and a good job where I work 50 plus hours a week. It's not easy like it was to just panhandle and get high. That's the east way. Most of the homeless are drug addicts that only want to get High and live off the hard working people. I joke about crapping in the street because it's insane to condone something so pre-society and it shows the insanity of the left.

That's what I did everyday was bum my way through life. I bummed this and that. Good for you for helping others. I help when I can, but I won't condone bad behavior.

    • @leskobrandon6950
      @leskobrandon6950 5 лет назад +1

      @UbuntoO I agree military expenditures are outrageous. I already pay federal tax and state tax which is damn near half of what I make, plus property tax.
      The insane thing is that these women cross our border in the first place. We have enough of our own homeless that we should help. Right? Or do we need to support the whole world? Lol. Legal immigration is great, illegals need to do it the legal way. Don't cut in line. How many people have died by the hand of illegal aliens? I bet it's more than 5. But I guess we shouldn't have borders to protect us from unknown people.

    It's not that hard to park in SF. Totally done it for work a bunch. It's hard to park near businesses you want to patronize (score on the planet fitness!). Buy if you give that up and just park and walk (or bike or use public transport) you can get around. Novel Kulture (also on RUclips) live in SF in their cargo van full time while going to school and it's much bigger than yours. Your van isn't really that obvious. It's still so small people will mostly think "there's no way someone lives in that". They might think it's someone's camper, but not that you like live/sleep in it every night.

      @J G Yes, that's it. I don't know much about the area so I just called it "Rincon". I love the camping right by the road by the rocks/boulders. It's beautiful there.

    • @jpdst29
      @jpdst29 5 лет назад +3

      timothy barnett - i’m pretty sure you can only get ticketed if the front windows are tinted a certain percentage. Back windows you can black out as much as you want.

    • @TheDawnofVanlife
      @TheDawnofVanlife 5 лет назад

      Tint allowances vary from state to state but I don't think like California can ding you (ticket you) if you are like from Wisconsin.

      @@jpdst29 This is true for California, but tints lower than 20% are illegal in most states. instamotor.com/blog/window-tinting-laws-50-states

      @@timothybarnett3532 Very interesting site. Thank you. I personally think cops rarely go after rear side window/back window tinting but focus more on the percentage of tint on the front windows. I live in PA which according to that site says 70% for the rear windows which is basically hardly any tint at all. My rear side windows and rear window are 20% and I've never been stopped once in all the years I've owned the car (13 years).

    Do you think it would be possible for me to stealth camp like that in my converted schoolie? I am currently trying to boondock in the Sacramento area. It seems impossible here. I would love some specific tips.

      There's nothing stealth about a schoolie. Good luck. Check out Will Prowse he's a youtuber that has a lot of videos of his experience living in an RV throughout California. He's got videos about where to park without being hassled in a lot of different cities.

    One thing I'm learning is most people are happy to pay three grand a month in housing. I'm on long island half the year rents are high here worse than San Diego. there's alot money here, everyone makes big money even the illegals find jobs work 65 hours a week make their 4 grand a month. School teachers make 135 grand after ten years cops too. One guy on the local commuter train made over quarter million in overtime lol in one year. San Fran has big money too. I meet alot people here, every one has at least one multimillionaire family member.
