    This video of you getting huckleberry brings back such happy memories of when I got my first golden retriever 37yrs ago. Tess lived until she was 16yrs old. I hope huckleberry brings you both as much joy, happiness and fun as tess brought me. You both look like goodie uman parents. I can wait to follow the little man's adventures. He's just so cute. Love Nicky from the UK. 😍

    Me and my family had a golden retriever. Even when they get older there still puppies! Ours wagged his tail all the time, but if anything fell on the floor it was his😂. There like children in a sense, ours weighed 90 pounds in the end, a little overweight, but he was 14 and had beat cancer. Best dogs all around. Plan on getting another in a few years time! Golden retrievers are the perfect dogs. Really loyal dogs, with usually perfect temperaments. Good choice on the breed!!

    Golden for 10 years! Love him. Pretty early to take a bath, and electric dryer! Yikes, really? Stairs? He will probably find it difficult to go UP and for sure DOWN! Way to many toys all at once - expect him to tear the stuffing out!❤️

    • @michaelandabbey
      @michaelandabbey Год назад +1

      Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! We're glad to hear that you love Golden and have been a proud owner for 10 years!
      Regarding the bath, you are correct that it may be a bit early for a puppy to take a bath, and we understand your concern about the use of an electric dryer. We weren't too sure and were very cautious with him, but he didn't seem to mind at all. Now he's a pro when he gets his groomings and they tell us he is very good about both bathing and the dryer they use.
      As far as the stairs, we truly didn't even expect him to use them, but he was climbing up and down withing a day or two of being home with us. We were obviously very cautious and mindful of that too!
      And regarding the toys, you are right that too many at once could lead to confusion, and puppies may be inclined to chew and tear out the stuffing. He has pretty much gravitated to a few that he still loves today (he's actually now over a year and a half)

    • @michaelandabbey
      @michaelandabbey Год назад +2

      He's definitely not being locked up - it's strictly for training purposes. Crate training a puppy has many benefits. Not only does it provide a safe and secure space for him to sleep and rest, but it also helps with potty training and preventing destructive behavior. Additionally, as dogs are natural cave dwellers, a crate can provide a sense of comfort and security for them. Even when the door is open, he still chooses to go inside and sleep! He's now 19 months old so he chooses when he wants to go in there, but it was a great tool in the beginning and really helped him sleep through the night without any issues!

    Separate observation... Perhaps amusing only to me...
    Dogs have been living with humans and adapting to our world for 10s of thousands of years. Dogs are significantly older than history or civilization. They were with us in the paleolithic....
    They have adapted to changes in human society that entire time. Up to, and including, learning to be cool with robotic cleaning devices in the 21st century. Yet another weird human things dogs shrugged off and decided they were cool with.

      I do understand that BUT we've never had a puppy before ever, so no matter how much we watched videos, read things, and prepared, we weren't expecting that! Adopt, don't shop. Thousands of dogs are euthanized or just alone and terrified and abandoned by pos owners, abused etc. and barely survive in shelters. Imagine being in a shelter for years, like some dogs, when you only live a few years. If you can't find it in your heart to rescue those dogs, you don't deserve to be a dog owner, frankly.

    • @Jc-um7rl
      @Jc-um7rl Год назад +14

      Very narrow minded comment. In our area the only dogs in shelters are pitbulls, not for everyone. All golden retrievers are taken by rescue groups, who make it very hard to adopt. This comment is like saying people should only adopt children, not have their own. This is a beautiful dog going to a good home, nothing wrong with that.

    • @nsn5564
      @nsn5564 Год назад

      @@Jc-um7rl Animal welfare volunteers send dogs all the way from China to US to be saved. Same with shelters all over US. You don't need to adopt just from your local shelter. There are abandoned dogs ALL over the US, Mexico, Canada. This comment is saying people should adopt kids who are ABOUT to be put to death, rather than designing their own genetically designed artificial babies

    • @michaelandabbey
      @michaelandabbey Год назад +5

      I understand your perspective that adopting a dog from a shelter can be a wonderful way to provide a loving home to a dog in need and that the conditions in which dogs in shelters often live can be difficult. However, I also recognize that there are many responsible breeders who take great care in ensuring that their dogs are healthy, well-socialized, and go to good homes. Additionally, some people may have specific needs or preferences in a dog that they can only find through a breeder. Ultimately, the decision of where to get a dog is a personal one and should be based on what is best for the individual and their circumstances.

    • @nathanmccreery914
      @nathanmccreery914 Год назад

      Kind of a narrow minded judgmental statement and attitude. We buy Golden puppies because we know their history, we know their temperament and there is no bad history to overcome. So you, sweet cheeks, need to go out to the shelter and get yourself 10 dogs. I am tired of hearing your self righteous yapping.

    • @x77punk77x
      @x77punk77x Год назад +2

      Even “responsible” breeders are basically feeding and profiteering off a market that devalues dogs past puppyhood. There are awful parallels in other industries, including agriculture (where animals are commodified to the point that myriad forms of cruelty are normalized) and even human adoptions, where white infants (even ones with serious conditions like fetal alcohol syndrome from E. European countries where maternal alcoholism is sadly fairly common) are extremely coveted while older children and children of color tend to languish and suffer deeply in the foster system. All life should be valued and people should provide *more* love, support, and help for the most vulnerable beings in their care instead of seeing them as defective, which is a disgusting attitude that is very common.
      Americans don’t care about the consequences of their consumer decisions, even on life itself, and that’s frankly a huge reason why you can’t trust many people in this country where personal gratification and hyperconsumerism warp people’s perceptions and behaviors from an early age.
      And for background: I was involved in supporting a wonderful Mid-Atlantic canine breed rescue for many years and my sister had been a core volunteer for a Bay Area rabbit rescue for 15-20 years and even the most jaded individual would be sickened and outraged by the attitudes of insanely selfish “pet owners” in this country who treat animals like property to be used, showcased on social media, mistreated, and disposed of. It’s horrific and shows so many people’s abysmally selfish characters in America.
