I was using red worms for Spots a few weeks ago and started catching sheepshead and thought I discovered something. I was all excited... then I found your videos lol.
Go to bait for sheepshead is sun dried oysters and they stay on the hook a lot better when dried first and are usually gone before the water softens them back up too much again. We gather them from the rocks, shuck them and let them dry on deck. It's like Sheepshead crack. Used to also dig up live tube worms for them in the bay. Same rig as yours too.
This is great man! This is my exact rig (splitshot and nightcrawlers on a octopus hook) for trout fishing in Tennessee. Crazy it works for big sheepers.
We have used oysters wrapped in nylon material .nylon holds the oyster together and works great sheep's can smell the scent, clams work too and tougher and stay on hook better and you can use squid as well cut in chunks
"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team."
I am actually going to test out your idea as crickets as bait for sheepers on Sunday. I haven't done any sheepshead fishing yet this year, and feel like trying something experimental. I may pickup some earthworms now as well.
usually if I cant get crabs, i use shrimp. Crunchy, usually can find it, only downside is that EVERYTHING eats shrimp so you'll catch a lot of things other than sheeps
Enjoyed watching. I like using crawlers too. Aways keep some on hand. Great for many kinds of fish in salt and fresh water. You need that auto pilot out there brother with that spot lock.
Right now I’m trying gulp crabs 🦀 just to see if they work … but all I did was order them so far. And conch ! They are readily available on all the beaches 🤣 and a hammer 🔨
Notice it is low tide. What is ebb tide? The change of the current of water to rise? Also your videos are on a kayak. What about a small 17tf power boat?
Although, I have never caught a Sheepshead, I would assume that you can catch them with clams (salt dried) to catch them as I have caught Blackfish out of NY, RI, NJ Conn and they have the same diet.
I like your videos. You just seem like a good ol boy who likes to fish it makes for a better video, I can relate more to you as opposed to a "professional " so to speak
I've seen Sheepshead eat live shrimp. However unfortunately l have never had the chance to fish for them.l have seen them a lot around Pier pilings.I have eaten Sheepshead and they are delicious.
Here in southeast GA, when I can't get fiddlers or I run out of fiddlers while fishing, I go pick some oysters. It's a dirty job and oysters are sharp so be careful when you are picking them!
Tried them last year after watching your video. Not a single bite. And, that’s in the same area where I was getting them on fiddlers and sand fleas. I was hoping they’d work because it’s a way cheaper bait.
@@redd1911 I’m starting to think this guys a fraud. There’s no way those baits only work for him. Everybody else who I know tried those baits didn’t get a single bite.
Clams wrapped in a square piece of panty hoes.... They can never get the clam off the hook because of the stocking wrap with a bread tie on top and a jig head through it.

Interesting. You can probably take take extras home and freeze them for next time.
Good deal!
Over the last 6/8 months I found your worm video from last year which set me on to your channel and you have easily become one of my favs!
Awesome man I really appreciate it!

🙌 🙌
Love these sheepshead videos brotha

Too far from my home, but I appreciate your clip, I will try to learn about it. God bless you and your family. Be safe.
Thank you!

Thank you for the knowledge. I will try it
🙌
Live 2-inch long roaches. Those are me and my buddy's favorite Sheepshead bait.
😮
I've never seen fleece pants before. Great video, as always!
Got them crazy cheap at field and stream
Excellent video Brother
Thanks brother!!
Enjoyed the video . I'm ready to give the 🪱 a try. Thanks, Nate. Looking forward to your Florida fishing videos. Be safe on the water !
I'm gonna try the worms as soon as I can get out fishing! Thanks Nate!
🙌 🙌 I’d love to hear your thoughts on them afterwards
Awesome video and welcome to my neck of the woods in Florida yall gonna have a blast, you should fish with CA that would be insane

I still have not used the mealworms yet. I love your videos.

Good one Nate👍👍

Another good one, Nate. Why do people doubt?
Idk lol but my comment section is full of it on other videos lol
@southernsalt I know, I see them. I've also seen others using worms, so I don't get it! 😂
Love your channel!

Caught about 15 today on small bits of shrimp. OBX area
Nice!
When I lived up north we used sand worms to catch Striped bass I always thought of using night crawlers then too
Nice!
👍👍👍👍👍great 🎣video exciting catches
🙌 🙌
Have you ever tried cut blue crab for Sheepshead?
That work too. My friends son caught a big one on a piece of blue crab
I have
From the bank that’s what we use
Small blues we find or half’s of big ones
I haven’t but I know it would work but not very effective or cheap
@@southernsalt we never bought ours 😂 either we caught a few or scavenged for ‘em

Do you think time of year makes a difference for using the worms? I never thought about that, maybe late fall winter is better to use them?😊
Really anytime between Nov and march
A lot of folks in Alabama would like to have some Chompers like that
They would probably eat chicken liver . It's nasty to deal with thou.
Although, I have never caught a Sheepshead, I would assume that you can catch them with clams (salt dried) to catch them as I have caught Blackfish out of NY, RI, NJ Conn and they have the same diet.
Definitely believe clams will work great
Those worms work a lot better than the TEMU crab lure
😂 yes they do
I'd like to see you try the spawn net, magic thread with oysters sometime.
I’ll definitely do that one!
Just curious Nate. Have you ever tried using Gulp Sand Fleas for Sheepshead?
I have. They worked but not well enough to do it often
Disregard my last comment you answered it just had a watch whole video😂😂😂😂
Right on!!
What part of Florida and you going to be fishing in Florida?

Great video.Sometimes it is hard to hook Sheepshead.Could it be their teeth?
Small bony mouths make it pretty hard to hook
Were you letting the worms go all the way to the bottom?
Yes
Flocks of sheep today!
Yes ma’am!!
Are sand fleas available in your area, frozen?
Yes I can get them.
Barnacles are good if the right size
🙌
Small muscle clusters work well if you can keep them on your hook
Haha , bad word!!!!
😂
What's your website so I can get me one of those ball caps?
southernsaltbaitcompany.com
Nice content 👌
Your drag is too tight give the fish some time to fight 👍
I will try the worms for sure.

hell yea

Live shrimp
🙌
Upgrade your tack you will catch more fish
How big is too big to eat with Sheepshead?
Depends on the person but I like them around 19”
@@southernsalt thank you!
You should take a scrapper with you and scrap the pylons before you fish them. Chum!
If I can't get crabs for shepheads I will use Barnacle
Right on!!
Sandfleas

@@fernandoprince3077 Maybe he's putting ProCure scent on the worm to make it more attractive to the sheeps. ProCure crab scent or something like that.
