The first FUJIFILM X digital camera that I was aware of was the X100. Some of them had sticky aperature blades. I waited and got an X100 S, their second edition. I love it. It’s my favorite of all my digital cameras. My Canon M 50 is next. Thanks for your great videos. I never miss watching them.
Great video. I bought one when they first came out but had to return it because the AF was just terrible for video and stills in AF-S or AF-C. How did you find the AF with your unit?
Thanks for the kind words. It's not Fujifilm's best autofocus system. I shot mostly with AF-S and wide/tracking mode and had very few misses. As you saw, the face detect didn't like me much, and the touch focus isn't video friendly, but otherwise, it's what I'd expect at this price.
Hi. Just viewed your vid on the X A5 and yes I know it was a year ago but I have just picked a new one up for £341 in the UK. You would like to edit the “HDR ART” images in RAW? I don’t think I've ever heard of any camera that will allow that. And I frankly doubt it that it's even possible as an in-camera feature. (You can of course always do bracketing and edit the RAW files later, but that's another story). These “Advanced Filters” do a lot of editing to the image, and pictures edited in camera will, I'm afraid, always be JPEGs. (Or some other compressed format). RAW basically means unedited, I think.

Thank you very much for this video. I'm considering purchasing the Fujufilm XA5 as my main camera for my new RUclips channel. Do you think the auto focus can keep up with kids running around? You had mentioned that the face detection in video did not seem to work very well. Please let me know. Thanks!
It's always nice to know my videos are appreciated. For better focus and eye detection, I'd choose the X-T30. It also has superior video capability, including 4K.
Just got an X-A5 and although it had a lot of potential it has a few gripes that severely hinders the shooting experience: - You can't customize what each dial does. In manual mode the rear dial is set for aperture, which is pointless since most fuji lenses have an aperture ring. If you want to use it for ISO, you'll need to press the Fn button and then spin it. If you want to use it for EV comp, you can't, even if ISO is set to auto. - You can only visualize the actual picture that is going to be taken in manual mode. All of the other modes (even program) will show you a preview with automatic correction of exposure. So if you have a few incorrect settings there's no way to know before seeing the picture. While it's certainly possible to use this camera in manual mode it's clearly just not made for that. It's a camera for mindless auto point and shooting. So sad that just a few more lines of code could've made this camera perfect.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Newer and more advanced models do offer those capabilities. Although more capable than most, it is a point and shoot camera.
@@MaartenHeilbron Indeed. In any case, I've been having a lot of fun with it lately - set it to Aperture priority just to use the main dial as EV comp and shoot. I have a bunch of manual focus lenses and I figured that framing and focusing were already enough settings for me to fiddle around before taking a shot. As it turns out I am extremely happy with my purchase now. This tiny 200 $ camera has no right to be this good!
Thank you for the detailed review. I am planning to buy this camera. Would you recommend this for portrait shots? I would mostly use it for that purpose
It's more the lens than the camera when taking portraits. For this camera (with an APS-C sensor) about 50mm lens that opens to f2.8 would be my recommendation.
Thanks, always nice to see your avatar among the comments. It does not, just the plain black and white mode. We were only there for three days to celebrate Kim's and her cousin's birthday (they were born 18 hours apart). Last minute whirlwind trip.

Thanks for your kind words. Sorry these replies are so long, I didn't have time to make them shorter. 1) If one has a properly protective case, yes. 2) That depends entirely on the lens and the camera operator. 3) About 30 minutes.
Hello Mr. Maarten I see your video is very good, this is very helpful, thank you. Please make a video settings tutorial for Fujifilm X-A5. Thank you very much
Sir I want to change as you said in vedio 15.12 timing that vedio was save as mov formert i am in india i want to change mov former to mp4 formet how to change that please reply me i cannot find way to do thank you
Fujifilm saves video in .mov. Why do you want to change to .mp4? If you need, just edit the file extension to make it .mp4. There is no difference in the video quality between these two file extensions.
Great review! Beginner here and just got the X-A5 with the 15-45mm lens. I would appreciate some advice on what settings to use to take street pictures of my motorcycle in the city or in front of murals?
Have you tried the Auto or P settings with AFC and wide? If you are having trouble getting started, that's a good default. Stay close to your subject. Or, what have you tried, what isn't pleasing you about the results?
Thank so much for this video Maarten! Very comprehensive! However, i have recently notice that my XA5 camera cant access the 4k burst that you mention at 19:29.. The menu just stop at the high/low speed burst. I am currently using a Sandisk Extreme Pro A2 U3 128GB (read up to 200MB / write up to 90MB)... what do you think is wrong with the setup? thanks
Hello from Greece, i am looking for my first detachable lenses camera. I will mostly taking pictures of my family. And i want to see big difference compared to my phone photos. Which camera do you recommend around 500€? Thanks in advance
I have no idea about prices where you are. You will see a big difference mostly if you take more control and use the extra features. Is there something specific that you feel the phone photos are missing?
@@MaartenHeilbron I think I'm gonna watch your tutorial again sir:) It would be better to watch now I have the camera already and know the features as well. Unlike watching before without having any camera! :)
@@MaartenHeilbron it is intended for General use..and also for vlogging.. i will try XF16-55 thank you for your advice sir.. i like all your videos, it helps a lot..
Hi, Maarten! 3 yrs late so I don’t know if you’ll reply. But would you recommend the x-a5 to a hobbyist like me who would like to explore street photography? I don’t really need the video features of the camera as I don’t do vlogs anyway. If that’s the case, is this a more practical choice than the xt100? Thank you.
I monitor all my videos (because I moderate all comments). Although the X-A5 is certainly suitable, if you can find an X-E3, that really is the best Fujifilm street shooter.
That depends on your shooting style, and whether you prefer an optical viewfinder or EVF. In terms of quality and detail, they're about the same - all are APS-C 24Mp. After that, more depends on the lens.
I can't decide either, and I'd have to know a great deal more about you, and what you intend to do with a camera to recommend one over the other. They're both good cameras, however, I think that Fujifilm's X-mount lens selection is much better than Canon's M-mount lenses.
I just got mine a week ago and I'm a bit anxious about the flex wire on the flip screen. Knowing that it's very delicate, I'm afraid that because it is exposed, it might be the cause of any problem which i hope not.. 😊
I hope not too. A Google search will usually reveal whether that is an issue. Keep an eye on it, and mark the date the warranty expires in your calendar. Of course, if it is a concern to you - maybe it's best to return the camera now and choose another that doesn't worry you.
I appreciate your kind words. Shutter 1/60. Aperture wide open (F4 or larger depending on lens). ISO as high as needed. Appropriate white balance for either incandescent or fluorescent.
Really detailed hands-on sir, i would like to know because this camera have similar price with canon m100 or lumix gf10 (gx880) in my country, what do you think better, this or m100 or the lumix one I do mainly for photo, but sometimes do video for tutorial (dont really need the af) Also the 30 minute limit is it for 1 file or for entire memory? I mean can we shoot 1 hour video (30 minute each) Thank you before
Thanks for the kind words. The limit is per recording segment (if I remember, the files are chunked). The camera stops after 30 mins, but you can start recording again nearly immediately. As for the cameras, the quality is similar, it's the other features that are different - it's up to you to determine which are most important to you. The issue you may have with all of these small cameras is overheating, particularly on longer recording times.
I don't. If there's a brand that interests you, a Google search will likely yield the answer if the manufacturer's web site does not. Have a look at Godox.
It was used for some, most of the blues performers were shot with the 50-140. Check out the flickr album for more details. www.flickr.com/photos/maartech/albums/72157711466620121
It is kind of funny how Nikon took the mic port off their entry level camera and Fuji puts it on theirs. Flash coverage, like the Nikon, has been reduced from the A3. Performance and image quality hasn’t changed much from the A3, except for higher iso and more focus points, blue tooth, and better video. No viewfinder; not worth upgrading from the A3; but, a good camera of you haven’t got the A3 (or save money by getting a good used or refurbished A3).
Very informative. Thanks! Although is a bit out of topic, please recommend a good entry level camera with good auto mode, and video for family pictures and children with good enough support for lenses. I'm considering a6100, fuji xt100. I'm so confused after tons of videos watched. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the kind words. Agreed, very confusing. There is too much esoteric information that's of interest mainly to a very small group. While there are lots of options, you should narrow the selection down by selecting those that fit your wallet, your hand and then let your sense of style, design or brand preference make your final choice. Both of those are good choices. The issues that seem confusing now won't be once you have the camera, that is particularly true for a novice. Until you know specifically what you intend to do, and what your practice and workflow is, there's no need to fuss over what will be very small differences and details.
As this camera overheats quite quickly while recording video, I would recommend another camera, likely one that has a larger body and can dissipate heat easily.
Out of all the reviews I've watched for Fujifilm X-A5, yours is the best and the most detailed.. Thanks so much for creating this one.. 👍

2) That depends entirely on the lens and the camera operator.
3) About 30 minutes.
Hello Mr. Maarten
I see your video is very good, this is very helpful, thank you.
Please make a video settings tutorial for Fujifilm X-A5.
Thank you very much
Thanks for your kind words, they're appreciated. I no longer have access to an X-A5, nor would I recommend this camera for video recording.
Rowing a boat while expounding the camera's virtues is such a good idea. The camera size, however, challenges the size advantages of mft cameras.
Thanks for your kinds words, they are appreciated
Complete and depth review and best , keep it up 👍 and keep going 👍
Thanks a ton, so grateful to read your kind words.
@@MaartenHeilbron you are welcome 😊
Your video has helped me a lot, thanks
That's very kind, thanks for commenting.
Extremely wonderful review...Love from India
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words.
This video is great! I got so much information about this camera which is I want to buy :) Thank you sir
Glad it was helpful! Always nice to read that my videos are appreciated.
I am currently using a Sandisk Extreme Pro A2 U3 128GB (read up to 200MB / write up to 90MB)... what do you think is wrong with the setup? thanks
I don't know, but I don't think it's the card. Try resetting the camera.
This is indeed the best and most detailed review. 😃 Still confused between Sony a5100 and Fuji XA-5... Any suggestions?? Which is best for stills?
It was a pleasure to read your kind words. As for making a choice, it depends on your needs and preferences, but I'd likely take the X-A5.
His sir does it suit for youtubers ...as mine is news channel like ,reviews etc..movie reviews
This would not be my first choice, as the video options are limited compared to other Fujifilm and other manufacturer's cameras.
Im looking to buy one of these for my first camera
Stop looking and do it.
@@MaartenHeilbron yes sir!
Is there a external power plug? Found your video very informative,! Thank you.
Not sure, I was given a demo kit, not a full retail box.
Nice review and tutorial😊 I'm gonna have this camera by tommorow, it's already purchased😊
Thanks for your kind words. I can feel the excitement in your words. Stay safe.
@@MaartenHeilbron I think I'm gonna watch your tutorial again sir:) It would be better to watch now I have the camera already and know the features as well. Unlike watching before without having any camera! :)
@@emeyheyel1223 Make sure to also spend some time making photographs!
Thanks sir! Of course I will😊
Great review ... Dose it have a clean hdmi output to use it with a capture card ?
Thanks for the kind words. It does have the ability to output a clean image on HDMI.
Nice review. I am travelling soon to Norway and Iceland. Do you think this camera will work in order to get some nice photos of Auroras ? Thank you !
I'm sure it will. Any camera with full manual control - in this case, particuarly of the shutter speed - and with a reasonable ISO should work.
As a dummy with a big toy in my hands, this was an excellent help
Always nice to read that my videos are appreciated. Thanks for commenting.g
thank you sir for this video you really help a lot!!!!
You are welcome! It's always nice to read that my videos are helpful and appreciated.
@@MaartenHeilbron i was having a problem on my manual settings back then i saw your video and it helps thank you sir
can you give some advice,, im a beginner
using XA5, what best lense can i upgrade with my 15 -45mm kit lense?
That depends on what it is you intend to photograph. For general use the XF16-55 is excellent, but will make the camera a little front heavy.
@@MaartenHeilbron it is intended for General use..and also for vlogging.. i will try XF16-55
thank you for your advice sir..
i like all your videos, it helps a lot..

Wow I'm impressed very detailed
Thank you! Cheers!
Lovely review, thanks!
That's very kind, thanks for taking the time to comment.t
I need some advice, can I use XA5 for toy photography? Also, what lens should I use for that type of photography? Thank you in advance.
Yes, you can use it for all kinds of photography. You'll probably want a macro lens for closeup work.
The best review ever ❤️❤️❤️ my question is which one is better for vlogging, Canon EOS M100 or Fujifilm X-A5?
I'd probably take the M100.
Does canon also have color filters?
@@danicabernardoisonza All cameras do, they differ from model to model . I haven't reviewed the M100, but - ruclips.net/video/nXequtdHMBg/видео.html
Fuji X-A5, Nikon D-3500 and Fuji Xt-100 which is better for stills? More detailled images?
That depends on your shooting style, and whether you prefer an optical viewfinder or EVF. In terms of quality and detail, they're about the same - all are APS-C 24Mp. After that, more depends on the lens.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thanks man, love your reviews keep it up.
@@Hemant33390 I appreciate the kind words, thank you.
Great video! But I still can't decide. Which one should I buy between Canon m100 and this camera?
I can't decide either, and I'd have to know a great deal more about you, and what you intend to do with a camera to recommend one over the other. They're both good cameras, however, I think that Fujifilm's X-mount lens selection is much better than Canon's M-mount lenses.
@@MaartenHeilbron I want a good camera for photography. I am not so much into videos. In terms of skills, I am a beginner.
@@GeoValyy Then either is an excellent choice. Let your wallet, your hand (how it fits) and your heart (or brand preference) decide.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thank you very much sir!
@@GeoValyy always happy to help
I just got mine a week ago and I'm a bit anxious about the flex wire on the flip screen. Knowing that it's very delicate, I'm afraid that because it is exposed, it might be the cause of any problem which i hope not.. 😊
I hope not too. A Google search will usually reveal whether that is an issue. Keep an eye on it, and mark the date the warranty expires in your calendar.
Of course, if it is a concern to you - maybe it's best to return the camera now and choose another that doesn't worry you.
Thankyou for the review. Ive learned a lot. ☺️ May I ask what is the best video manual setting when shooting inside the house using xa5? Thankyou.
I appreciate your kind words. Shutter 1/60. Aperture wide open (F4 or larger depending on lens). ISO as high as needed. Appropriate white balance for either incandescent or fluorescent.
@@MaartenHeilbron Thankyou so much for the responce. 😊😊
This is so refreshing!
Thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words.
Really detailed hands-on sir, i would like to know because this camera have similar price with canon m100 or lumix gf10 (gx880) in my country, what do you think better, this or m100 or the lumix one
I do mainly for photo, but sometimes do video for tutorial (dont really need the af)
Also the 30 minute limit is it for 1 file or for entire memory? I mean can we shoot 1 hour video (30 minute each)
Thank you before
Thanks for the kind words.
The limit is per recording segment (if I remember, the files are chunked). The camera stops after 30 mins, but you can start recording again nearly immediately.
As for the cameras, the quality is similar, it's the other features that are different - it's up to you to determine which are most important to you. The issue you may have with all of these small cameras is overheating, particularly on longer recording times.
hello, do you know which flashes from other brands are compatible with this camera but have TTL? thank you excellent review
I don't. If there's a brand that interests you, a Google search will likely yield the answer if the manufacturer's web site does not.
Have a look at Godox.
Loved the video! Do you recommend any lens for taking pictures in 35mm?
Everyone seems to love the Fujifilm 23mm.
Hi ! I was wondering which lens was used for the portrait shots. Was it the 15 45 ? Thanks
Right. I wonder who did their market research about mic in ports. Yes, not a worthwhile upgrade if you have an A3. Thanks for commenting.
Hello, do you think that this Fuji xa5 kit lens is good for low light photography?
I do not. They have many primes with very large (f1.4; f1.8) that would be better in low light situations.
Sir, i want to record youtube videos with this, do you think this camera will be ok for that or should i buy any particular lens for this also?
As this camera overheats quite quickly while recording video, I would recommend another camera, likely one that has a larger body and can dissipate heat easily.
Plz give your suggestions between fujifilm A-x5 or X -T100 ?
I have given my suggestions in my reviews, now it's up to you to choose one. They are both fine cameras.
