the spring slides on the shaft with the short leg resting on the oblong plastic recess on the assembly, so that its pressing the wheel assembly inwards, the long leg of the spring fits in the slot under the axle mount. the idea is it keeps tension on the wheel assembly as you adjust the carpet height. Hope this helps.
Thanks for sharing the video. So the belt looks really tight compared to the old one. I bought one at Walmart and I thought the belt was the wrong part because it’s not as loose as the old one.
I need to replace the front wheel assembly and can't tell how the torsion spring fits on the little peg that holds it. When you replaced that part in the video, you didn't show what to do with that spring. My model is Hoover windtunnel, model U5460-900 which is about 20 yrs. old.
search hoover torsion spring on google and hoover owners are having real trouble with the spring and this video completely ignores it. Is it that hard to reassemble that so many people are having trouble and the professionals don't even want to deal with it?
Thank you Graham Baker. You made my day with your spring explanation. This 73 yr old gramdma was about to lose it and toss the vacuum out the window.

You saved me from having to purchase a new vacuum. Thank you!

I came here to see how the spring goes on.
Can the back wheels on a Hoover upright U5180 910W be replaced easily
Tell us your model number. I have no screws on the plate. I have a UH70820 Wind Tunnel.

You didn't show installing the spring that attaches to the wheels. That's where I'm stuck. Can't get the spring to fit in any way that works.
