That last boat was hilarious, it seemed to go down sort of Titanic style. The bow was underwater and the bow rower was up to his belly in water, but the guys at the back end didn't seem to realise and were still rowing away.
haha i remember rowing in this, and wondering what was going on when our cox started steering in a S shape...then thinking ok fair enough as we rowed past a sunken 8. Typical nottingham!!
i remember this, sitting in the 7 seat of my school crew; was rather strange seeing our cox steering us wide and then woosh straight past a sinking eight! not something you see everyday. Typical nottingham conditions.
I've been at dorney in a quad in some undesirable conditions, i can definitely see how boats could sink in the winds and choppy waters! don't be fooled by it being a lake!
@RichyJames95 at the start yesterday I was in a quad in lane 1 and even though we had both 2 and 3 tapping with 1 and 2s blades we still managed to get blown 90 degrees lol
It feels nicer as the area around it is bigger so before races and between events you get to actually relax but when I was at dorney for the junior sculling head I had to constantly sit on the floor and duck oars and boats. Toilets better stands at the finishing line winners get there medals in a nicer way rowing up to the finish line and receiving medals. But it could be just that we got gold at holme pierrepoint and when i was at dorney I had only rowed over 8 months and we came 10th
you have clearly never rowed in nottingham in shit weather conditions. they were going to make it a private airport, but deemed it to windy, so made its a water course instead...
@nzekulman Yeah, I am at Bedford School, but I hope that we are cool :) Nice, I was in my single today, the wind made it absolutely awful though, it was terrible haha. What year?
@hellsbells056 You're at Bedford School? Or one of the clubs? And I'm BMS :P. I didn't race at Star btw, we didn't get entered because of seat racing for Henley. I'm always out in a single though haha.
yeah, bedford modern, my school sank. they have a resolute. its good. it sank because, to save weight it dosnt have any air tanks, so when water flows in,thats pretty much it. and kgs are morons because they crashed into it so now its all scrached up and snapped.
If that is Holme Pierrepoint with a crosswind then one side of the course can be badly affected by choppy waters. If you don’t have time at the start to bale out then you are sunk.
On the plus side, they set a course record for most ever submarines.
LMAO.

+DarqeDestroyer I watched it in slow motion with Chariots of Fire playing. LMFAO
They was doing breaststroke 😂
That one coxswain using his hands to "row"
that was the most fun rowing i have ever done. I was in the first crew shown in the video and we managed to survive to the finish line!!!
Oh, my! Where did it happen and what race was this?
There's a story about how they were going to build an airport there, but cancelled the project because of the winds
haha i remember rowing in this, and wondering what was going on when our cox started steering in a S shape...then thinking ok fair enough as we rowed past a sunken 8. Typical nottingham!!
1:04 i'm in the 4 seat in the black boat. Luckily we managed to finish the race but it has to have been the most fun i have ever had in a regatta
"They're Italian"
Best answer.
Almost sank there too. The first 500m was acceptable, so we pulled out as far as possible and just held out to the finish line.
You will have noticed that not all boats sank. The ones that didn't had sufficient buoyancy to support the crew
yes and the crew could have been much lighter in terms of the ratio of their weight to the boat
i think i can hear me shouting "stop". our marquee was directly left of this video. Our poor first 8 was the one that kingston rowed into.
I enjoyed the coxswain paddling

Were all three 8s that sank vespos????
Same thing happened to Brock U at Head of the Trent (CAN) 2 years ago.
Insane tailwind!
I raced there yesterday and what I though was bad weather is nothing compared to that! haha :D
The one time when I was thankful for rowing in a chubby bergashell

Yeah dorney can be quite awful but this was in Nottingham where the winds are ridiculous
I was pissed off that our race was canceled... was hilarious though.
fyi, Vespoli is from the US, not Italy...
"look at the bow man!"
No im pretty sure bedford modern - the second school were in a resolute.
2:18 What does the coxwain do ? Is he dumb ? 😅
Grace. Fitness. Artistry.
does anyone know about the re-schedule at dorney or something ??
class vid though

I saw my BC in that footage :) 1:13 - KGSBC
same, just went to that school many years later than you

looks like great fun :D

@hellsbells056 Yes i will be, in a coxed four probably, we got to the semis at bedford but it was a quick crew so we're doing it there :).
I'm worried that this year it will be like this
@hellsbells056 You're at Bedford School? Or one of the clubs? And I'm BMS :P. I didn't race at Star btw, we didn't get entered because of seat racing for Henley. I'm always out in a single though haha.
I am pretty sure three boats did sink...I filmed it
the kingston crew look buff

@nzekulman J16, but I have been training in a single for ages, I am at the Quarts Sprint. Haha, who are you anyway? :)
@nzekulman Nice, I am at Bedford if you are interested, novice single sculls ahaha. What school are you at? :)
@nzekulman Haha, don't worry about it, I only say that because of you are my rivals, :)
@hellsbells056 Ahh that would be why :P. Which school do you go to? See you on saturday anyway :)
the commentator thinks the rowers are listening to him....
@nzekulman Awh, I won't be there :( I am not racing, I am at Star Regatta, in a single though, are you racing at that? :)
re race on the 7th june at dorney but only top boats so the mite join all the 8s together or something
If this happens this year... :(
basically this is what the US masters 2010 round 3 was like. Upvote if you agree
No, they're not having a good day at all😂
heehee man that was a jokes day!
the other rowers must be like
dafuq
1:30
YES SHIPLAKE
I'll be happy because my friends will sink like I did
Just so you know, Vespolis are NOT italian. They are American.
The same idiots that hit the capsizees :) those were our seniors, as well.
@nzekulman Yeah well, just bad luck I suppose ;)
The weather there is shit put I prefer holme pierrepoint to dorney
Descargar
should have bought a kayak instead... don't have this problem when we race at notts :L
Vespoli is American...
Llll
MAYBE IT THIER CREWS DID SWEAT RUNS THEY WOULD NOT SINK LMFAO
GO SHIPLAKE!!!!
The race is abandoned. Stop racing.
@hellsbells056 I'm Luke Gledhill, and you? Add me on fb, then we don't have to come on youtube to talk haha :L.
teach those fucking Toffs

@hellsbells056 Sure we are cool :). I'm J17, and you?
@hellsbells056 Sorry for the abuse mate :P.
rowing is for social rejects
