Really surprised that you have only managed 100 miles on a full charge. I regularly get over 120 miles from mine and I stay in Mid mode and don’t limit my driving style. The only change in style is that I don’t use the brakes at all, I just use regenerative braking all the time. It looks just like a petrol Cooper S, not sure what else you need, big spoiler? You can pick different wheels at no extra cost, and any of the colours at no extra cost, it look very sporty in Red with Black Alloys. I agree about EVs, I did not buy it because it is green I got it for the cost savings, style and performance.
Thanks for a very comprehensive review and I appreciate having both family drivers contribute. I have had my Tesla M3 for 2 years and now have. Mini ES for 1 week. I love this car!! I would never be happy having only 110 mile range with my primary car but as a second city car, this is brilliant. As much as I love my Tesla, if I need to pop out for a loaf of bread, I’m grabbing the fob for the Mini.
The problem with the MINI is that it is so much fun to drive, you can't stop yourself from "hooning" around in it, which then knocks the efficiency. If you spend more time in Eco mode then no doubt the efficiency will climb, but where's the fun in that??
Barely 100 miles?! Have you tried not flooring it everywhere? I average 4.2 mi/kWh in mine and have managed 5.2 mi/kWh over 96 miles while having a blast on canyon roads. I’ll never understand these reviewer who can’t seem to drive efficiently...it’s not that difficult. Getting 120-130 miles should be fairly easy in good weather. My 5.2 mi/kWh trip would’ve better 155 miles of total range.
The problem is, they built a car that is so much fun to drive, I couldn't help it! Like I say in a lot of the reviews, you can obviously eke out more range by slipping it into one of the more efficient driving modes, but we want to get away from thinking of EV's as efficient/green cars and focus on how much fun they are for enthusiasts. But, fair point to make.
@@AutoEV I have to agree with Aaron above - I get 4.3 mi/kWh on average all the time out of mine, and I'm driving it normally on the normal drive setting.. I'm not doing anything special to "eke out more range". Its fine to hoon about with it in sport mode if you are just talking about fun, but you've said you CANT get 120 miles out of it - without qualification - and thats just plain misleading and wrong, especially in a video about living with the car long term. It reminds me of that time Top Gear thrashed a Prius, to "prove" hybrids have a cr@ppy MPG. ...
@@eustonr completely understand that some people will get better range than others, but also keep in mind, whilst we had the car for 5 months, we were in line lockdown for most of it, so in the short time I was really able to use it, I really did struggle to get the quoted range. I’m sure there will be some people can get better mpg from their cars than others with the same ICE cars. I’ve nothing but praise for the MINI Electric though, and it’s still the driver’s choice in the small EVs in our book. Always remember what Mario Andretti once said - if it all seems under control, then you’re not going fast enough! Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Bryan.
I also agree with the others here - I've only had mine a month, but the consumption from new is 12.5kWh/100km which translates to 5m/kWh. I drive almost exclusively in the city, but that still contains freeway driving (80-100kph - 50-62mph). I use the acceleration - who wouldn't, and don't slow for corners. I've used green once, and normally use mid. Sport is only when I want to have fun. I am guessing your normal driving is on twisty A roads at speed, whereas mine is at slower city speed. Maybe that is the difference. Totally agree that this is one of the most fun cars to drive, and really peerless in EV terms until you spend a *lot* more money. Great review - would you consider getting a mini electric?
Really enjoyed your review. I agree the Level 2 is the sweet spot in the range, although I thought you might have concentrated more on the differences you forego with the base Level 1. For example, heated seats, keyless entry, a far wider range of colours (including the pick of the bunch, the highly desirable British Racing Green you had) and Driving assistant pack (speed limit and traffic sign information, city collision mitigation for pedestrians, high beam assistance). The only problem is getting hold of one. There’s currently a six month lead time. Frustrating when Mini UK won’t let dealerships sell the stock they have in their showrooms (but that’s another story). I’ve had great service from two Mini dealers but they are let down by HQ and I’m left thinking Mini UK don’t really care about their customers.
Lead times are an issue, and this year has been particularly difficult due to the pandemic. When I first drove the car back in March, I did a tour of the factory, and now they will have had to adhere to new working guidelines to keep the staff safe, which will have an impact on production. It will also keep residuals up in the longer term, but I can appreciate the frustration.
I totally agree with your comments! I've had two long test drives in an electric mini and absolutely love it ! I already have an 06 Cooper S and this is so much more fun and really nicely kitted out. The big downside is the range, but I think I am prepared to live with that, even though I have to park and charge on the road. It will be my only car, but I don't do much long distance driving, so hopefully I will be able to survive with it! Although the Renault Zoe and Peugeot e208 go further they don't cut it in terms of fun and style. The e208 interior is positive tacky !
It drives me nuts when people say Mini Cooper's are a girls car. Ok yes it's small and cute but I think people who say that have never even drove one and maybe it would change there mind of what they think about Mini Cooper's
Treat it like a hot hatch and you won't see more that 90 miles range. Treat is as a normal car and you should see over 120 miles per charge as long as you don't do too much at Motorway speeds or with significant heating or AC usage. One problem is that the GOM/Range estimate is significantly impacted by the destination set on the sat nav. As soon as you set a destination you find that the range is reduced unless you select Green+. The GOM is pessimistic especially in the 10-30% range which tells you that you can't get 1mile for each percent left. There is a video on RUclips where 5 fully charged EVs are driven in a convoy until their batteries expired, over a mixture of roads including motorways The Mini did 155 miles.
Lots of peoplehave been seeing a much bigger range than I ever got Steve. My issue is that the car is so much fun to drive, I couldn't help but drive it like a proper little hot hatch!!! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, Bryan.
I have trouble following the commentaries made ..there seems to be a lot but which are the significant ones...I have seen better ones and those are really helpful. These testers should be given an outline of items that are to be adequately addressed instead of allowing them to just do what comes to their heads. Thank.
I wonder if there is some difference in the British sold vs the American sold versions (besides which side the steering wheels is on). I have one and I have no problem getting over 100 mile range and often average around 4 miles/kWh. Seems the British reviews I have seen suggest not nearly as good of range as the American reviews. Although honestly 90 vs 110 is not a huge difference, I just wonder why the discrepancy.
Aw, thanks Tom! I did get a bit carried away with the Honda, but it is a brilliant little car that is just so desirable, and......oops! Did it again! Seriously though, thanks for the comment and for watching. We appreciate the support! Lots more videos coming soon too! Bryan.
Have had mine for two weeks and no range anxiety. Great for running errands around Dallas!

Just so much fun to drive, isn't it?
I am a bit surprised about the efficiency in this video since in most tests, this one ranks clearly amongst the efficient EVs in the market...
The problem with the MINI is that it is so much fun to drive, you can't stop yourself from "hooning" around in it, which then knocks the efficiency. If you spend more time in Eco mode then no doubt the efficiency will climb, but where's the fun in that??
Apparently, BMW has 100,000 pre-orders for this vehicle. BMW can worry about increasing range, when those orders have been satisfied.

Lovely stitching on that faux-leather.
I am managing 120 - 130 miles. My average miles per KWh is 4.4
Mine is lower, but I try to keep the pedal firmly to the floor while driving.

Great vid thanks for making it for us- do you know how many miles you can drive on the freeway going about 80mph?
I'm easily getting 115 from it although I've never let it run out so would be confident of 125 miles.

I wonder if it's the colder weather? Do you live in a warm area?
Never apologise for a good Scottish diet! Great video and really loved to hear Liz’s thoughts as well.
Gordon, I've been working on this figure for decades...... And thank you for your kind comments and continued support.
wow when you are not on Honda ecstasy pills you can do a good down to earth car review
Aw, thanks Tom! I did get a bit carried away with the Honda, but it is a brilliant little car that is just so desirable, and......oops! Did it again! Seriously though, thanks for the comment and for watching. We appreciate the support! Lots more videos coming soon too! Bryan.
I suggest you take a look at this video, he got 170 miles ruclips.net/video/7-_CqrshJ38/видео.html
Miles per kilowatt? I think you must mean "miles per kilowatt hour".
And don't say "instantaneous" when you mean "instant".
