High art.. please let's bring it back!
Brilliant
Brilliant. Would love to see and hear the whole book done in this style. Modern opera. Robert Wilson, Einstein on the Beach, etc.
Fantastic!
Lincoln was not holding his son Willie, he was looking at him. Willie was laid to rest in a cast iron airtight coffin. The richest families would buy these coffins for their soldier relatives who died in the war.The coffin being airtight would be too hard to easily open. But you did not have to open the coffin. These coffins came with a window. You could open up the window cover and see your loved one. There was a show on PBS about them finding a young Black Lady in one of these coffins in New York City, who had died of smallpox. She was so well preserved that they did an autopsy on her. Then they mentioned that Willie was buried in a similar coffin. So the secret of what Lincoln was doing is now put to rest.
If you have the paperback version, they start on page 145 or chapter 43. At 16:07, they jump to page 231, chapter 69.
Poignant, beautiful reading of a key excerpt from this haunting book.
Admit we are dead, then all fear goes away
