@@tanvichoudhary813 it's a rule of grammer if BUT is followed by any the above mention words then singular verb is used wheather the noun is singular, plural and uncountable.

'Were' should correct.
if Nothing, everything, No one and everyone are followed by "BUT" then singular verb is used.
