One of the greatest examples of Rachmaninoff’s understated genius. There are no 5 - 1 cadences in the whole piece, the powerful low register section is riddled with a unique suspended harmony that I haven’t seen anywhere else in the piano repertoire, and the entire piece takes on a dorian-esque tone. So many good things to say about this piece. For anyone who hasn’t already, it’s well worth it to check out Richter’s recording of this piece.
I love this prelude and thanks to you I can learn it…I’m self learning and for me the hardest part is the accents and pedaling in the beggining of the main part…So hard to get that right and Lugansky made it look so easy
Good luck! I also started learning piano watching synthesia video of rachmaninoff’s prelude… And successfully learned it! However, it was his most popular c sharp minor and i regret it a bit, wish i would’ve learned this one as my first piece Good luck!
People that don't even try listening to classical music ... theyre missing out...
I feel like this prelude is criminally overshadowed by the G minor and C-sharp minor preludes. This one will always be my favorite though!
fr- same here!
I believe it’s Rach’s favorite prelude too
Bruv all of rachs other preludes are criminally overshadowed by the g and C sharp minor preludes
Not really overshadowed; those in the know put it rightly above the rest 😅
The b flat minor one is also great btw

I love how the colours in THAT section remind me of the painting Rachmaninoff based this off of

Love it. Wrote a tribute to the mighty Rach some years ago, "Heart of Sorrow". You might like it.
