The “ah she’s 23” feels so real. I wasn’t a late bloomer or anything, but I definitely had a change between 22 and 23 that was noticeable. Maybe a little life experience and then confidence helping a lot
Re falling in love a number of times. I've never been in love. Might have something to do with the fact I only came out 15 months ago at the age of 68. So very shy me just enjoying the feeling of being part of the community and trying to embrace what's left of my life. I have joined a Lesbian Social and I look forward to your podcast every week which has helped give me a sense of belonging. Barbara x Congratulations to Alayna 🎉
I came out at 39 (42 now). And I've only been in love once. Hoping you find that if that's what you want! But feeling you on the not in love 48 times thing.
My wife's proposal to me wasn't at all planned. We were hanging out in her room after work just talking. We started getting a little cheesy & she turned to her bookshelf & grabbed her grandma's ring (like one of her favorite & most important memories of her favorite woman), and sat it down in front of me. I always thought I wanted a planned/sentimental/memorable thing, but I wouldn't have changed a thing! 😍😍😍
I also had very unplanned proposal. I (f) proposed my partner (m). I did not kneel down. I sat with him on a couch. I spoke about symbolism of it. We are equal, so I will not kneel. (I also still use term "partner" a lot as we both are somewhat in gender spectrum. Also, up-coming marrige is not such a big deal for us, that I would want to highlight it to _others_ by using term fiance.) I did not have a ring. I gave him shitly folded paper ring. (I folded it when he was in toilet, so I did not have much time.) The paper strip used to make a ring had been teared from envelope, which came with some bill. 🤣He kept it for months and months. When we moved, he finally let go of it. It was partly unfolded and we had had actual rings already for a many months.
I love what Ashley said about wanting future you to tell you everything’s gonna be okay. When I’m particularly anxious I like to imagine 80 year old me talking to me about the situation, giving me advice and putting things in perspective. I find it really helpful for reconnecting with my core values, looking at the bigger picture, and trusting future me/that I will create the life I want.
I'm not you and I'm not 80 yet, but surerly older then you and can give you that ''pep talk'' You will be fine, you will cross many river and bumpy road but you will always manage to get true cuz you are alive, cuz you are beautyfull and you are strongue. Belive in you lady, you'll make it. Life is sh*t and will always trow sh*t at you, but life is also beautyfull and as sure as the sun rise every morning you will find your way to go tru life. Now decide every morning what you want to take out of it: the sh*t part or the beautyfull part? Take your time to smell the flower, take the time to tell ppl that you love them, take the time to enjoye the beauty, cuz for sure some sh*t will happend, but also beautyfull things will happend, you have to be open to the beauty to recognise it when it's their. Have a beautyfull day 🙂
oof Alayna talking about taking back something that has hurt her made me tear up. Been a fan of Alayna for over a decade and just so happy to see her bloom like this ❤
I've been thinking about wedding traditions and how to queer them a lot lately because I got certified as a wedding planner last month and queer weddings were my chosen specialty and therefore I read all the lists and articles and wedding stories about whether more lesbians go for a separate first look photo shoot or get ready together, how the walking down the aisle is organised (my personal favourites are walking down together, which is also culturally and religiously what would be the default for me, or going completely off the book and walking towards each other on two aisles because that just feels very special), how the wedding party and speeches and pre-wedding events can work and be inclusive and fun and queer and rediscovering old traditions and starting new ones and what cool things to wear are (I've fallen in love with capes, btw) and how to include symbols subtly but openly (like white knots for same sex marriage if you don't want all rainbows) and it's just such a fun and great and creative and magical topic and I'm so happy for you guys having found your people. Of course, this topic also comes with a lot of additional stressors that straight weddings, which are already very stressful, don't have. But I'm confident that Alayna will have an amazing time. It sounds like it might be soon, if it's a smaller ceremony and the wife-title sounds so good. Congratulations!
OMG ALAYNA THAT'S HUGE!!!! i wish you both nothing but happiness, love, success and absolutely everything you wish for yourself. you deserve it so so much 😭😭
The way I JUMPED out of my bed to run to my tv to see the ring up close 😂 So happy for Alayna!!!! Also l love the word fiancée I think it’s so melodic lol
OMG Congratulations Alayna! SO overwhelmed with joy for you! You deserve this so much. 🥰Thankyou for sharing the story with us! Congratulations to your Fiancée too! 🎉💖🎉
my wife and I didn’t set out to queer our wedding, we just wanted to plan something that felt right for us, but it ended up being very queer lol. It was LOTR themed, I dressed like Sam and my wife like Rosie and we wore pointed ears, we had a handfasting ceremony in front of 15 select friends and family and part of the ceremony included telling each of our guests how much we love and appreciate them in personalized “toasts.” We also ate dinner with our guests before the ceremony because I was not going to be hungry for my own wedding. Being queer is such a blessing because at no point did my wife and I ever feel like we had to do things traditionally, because there’s nothing traditional about our relationship. God I love love. Congrats Alayna!
omg congratulations alayna! The parasocial is so strong that I'm weeping with joy. Ashley's & mak's reaction was so heartwarming, I had to watch this ep a couple extra times to take it all in ❤
The way I gasped at the coffee holding ring wearing that happened! Seeing this journey for mom from well idk like 6-7 years ago to see her so happy and authentically herself is just wonderful. Congrats Alayna! You deserve to feel the queer joy you are feeling ❤❤❤

Congratulations Alayna🎉🎉🎉 How beautiful was that engagement story! In my language we can call our partner/spouse "fy nghariad" which means "my love". Like in everyday conversation "my love is an engineer". Totally normal thing to say. And I love it 💗
Gay time travel: a novella about a modern day lesbian going back in time to meet cave women, queens, courtiers, etc and opening their hearts while she herself sees all the ways to be historically gay ❤
I didn’t like using the word fiancée because it meant I had to come out more, just saying “my girlfriend” or “my wife” made the constant coming out easier…also congratulations Alayna!
I hear that. I was in a really safe place socially & professionally, plus I'm an extrovert, so for me it was great fun to subvert people's expectations by saying "my fiancé", & then "she". Especially as we didn't have full marriage rights at the time. But yeah, it was sometimes uncomfortable 😅
I have an unpopular opinion day: I agreed with Mak on the clone thing and agreed with Alayna about the word fiancé... Also, I'm SO RELIEVED that I'm not the only one asking the clone question to people around me 😂 Congrats on the engagement! 🎉
Absolutely great podcast and Alayna congratulations and I just couldn’t stop laughing it’s very funny funny thank you so much for making my day so great.
When Ashley talked about wanting future her to come say that everything is gonna be ok I literally just went "oh shit" and started crying. And then Alayna said "that makes me want to ask if you're ok" ahhahahahahaa. I feel ya Ashley, I want that too
CONGRATULATIONS ALAYNA!!! I am so so happy for you! I’ve been watching this pod as soon as the first episode came out and it made my Wednesday’s so special.
Congratulations, Alayna!!! 🎉❤ This comment may be longer than I intended, but: I am with Alayna, I couldn't get myself to say fiancé much & I did not like the word very much. I have always called my partner, partner. I am a bisexual woman who proposed to my cis-het male partner, on one knee, where we hugged on our first date. Once we were engaged, for some reason I started resorting to immediately calling him my husband before we were married to explain to people what we were, probably easier for my brain & mouth because we knew we'd have such a short engagement (also had a very small, private ceremony before moving across the country to California). There is also a safety to it, both in the feeling it gives me from my connection to him, & also, unfortunately, the lack of signaling to the straights/conservatives back home what/who I really am. So! All this to say, marriage never felt good to me either, it was not something I dreamed of & seemed like only bad news for women always. Plus, it seemed impossible because for a long time I struggled with thinking I was just a lesbian, having been raised very Catholic, and not realizing there is the option of not liking just the binary of women or men. (Alayna, you actually helped a lot with that.) & when I was a hopeful single searching for a wife, I found the angel of a man that is now my lawfully wedded partner.
Hahaha. I never got to go to an SAB carnival (damn!) but I was my college's variety chair for a year, and in that time I hired a comedian (who later went on AGT), a balloon animal making mime, an emo band, and some Swing Dance instructors. None of my other events required creating a contract, they were lazy on-campus events because deadlines. Also I co-founded my school's improv club so I could make the guys do openers for me 😆
I must say of you have the most flawless, lovely, smooth skin. Ashley, I think you won the Perfection Skin Award. Jealous of your skins. Love you ppl. Love from Manitoba
I went to those as part of student activities in 2012 and 2013. Have a funny story about one of the comedians who came to our college all the years I was there
absolutely insane how alayna respects her fiancées privacy more than most parents respect their kid’s
Ashley you should send the poster to Mak as a house warming gift 😂
Or a burglar warning gift for the front yard "BEWARE of the ANGRY LESBIAN"
@@2nd3rd1st are we talking about the same poster? :D
@@BanszaBunnny She may not look it on the poster but she's not to be trifled with! 😅
I think Ashely should bring the poster to Alayna’s wedding 😂
Seeing Ashley's and Mak's joy for Alayna made me so happy I had to watch the reveal a few times over! Congratulations Alayna! 😍❤
When Alayna was talking about still being burnt out even after a break from school,,,,, I feel that so hard right now
Yesss, two weeks after graduation + holidays, and I *still* feel like my body is recovering. It's no joke!
Alayna is so adorable with that ring. She looks so happy ✨
I will always appreciate when Alayna is saying she actually had a break and then they pan to Ashley’s shit eating grin. 9:57 😂
Right!😂
The “ah she’s 23” feels so real. I wasn’t a late bloomer or anything, but I definitely had a change between 22 and 23 that was noticeable. Maybe a little life experience and then confidence helping a lot
I felt a big change between 21 and 22 and I’m sensing another change is coming soon cause I’ll be 23 in a month 😂

Roflll the engagement realization 😂😂and the bathtub dress talk was such a good lead up to this
At the second she showed the ring in the bathtube I knew, so today wasn't a surprise ;-)
