I will never forget when he came to our conservatory for a masterclass. In the end he played the slow movement from Rachmaninoff's first piano sonata. A phone started ringing halfway through. Trifonov stopped playing, angrily stared at the audience - then reached into his pocket and turned it off.
When i will go to his concert the next time, i certainly will announce by the hall radio: mr. Trifonov is kindly requested to silence his personal phone during his concert, thank you. 😂
I love how his reaction to the “do you watch your neighbors through the window” question turned from a concerned look into a “how did you know” after he mentioned he sometimes does
Here is an interesting fact: Trifonov performed John Cage's 4′33″ as an encore, and was live on medici tv in 2019. Don't know if you have that clip but it was quite interesting.
You have nothing to worry about! No matter how much you practice, you won’t end up like him! People like him come once every couple of generations! You’re safe in your mediocrity!
The piano world seens very fickle to me. Comment boxes suggest the fans have already moved on to other younger pianists they consider ‘the greatest ever’, and weirdly, ‘gods’. Opera lovers are much more loyal to the old (really old) and critical of the new.
I think that both the new and the old are equally appreciated. While the first one I’m has the excitement of novelty and of seeing in real time the development of great pianists, the other has more reverence towards the “legends”. In fact, older pianists such as Horowitz, Zymerman, Pogorelich, Gabrieli, Arrai etc. are known by most pianists today and are recognised as some of the greatest to ever live.
Here are two excellent misunderstandings from close caption RUclips: "If you move your wrist up and down gently, you can play a beautiful shop and doctor [ she said "Chopin Nocturne"] "Once you learn how to read notes, the most important piece to play is Fur Release by Lubbock Van Beethoven"
Trifonov's TE's WERE absolute. But now it is equaled by Yunchan. Trifonov is still the master of expression. But Yunchan's technique is even more mind boggling!
Nothing wrong with being a nerd. Being a nerd is something one should strive for. Why wouldn’t you want to be intelligent and absolutely passionate for sciences , music , arts, literature?
not much time for anything else, that's ok, I mean, he's fully committed and that's cool, perhaps that's why he's so good at playing the piano. If it's a passion your spending your time on, time becomes irrelevant, you don't feel hunger, thirst, boredom, or the need to do anything else. It's being in the zone, and fully committed to one thing, trying to be the best at that single thing. It's being exceptionally good at something, and the interviewer asking this question shows signs of mediocracy just like the standard person who can't excel at anything but merely do their jobs to put food on the table. Unexceptionals interviewing exceptional people basically.
A year later, but to qualify someone asking somebody else if they do anything else to unwind mentally/emotionally as being pedestrian is more telling about the state of your own emotional intelligence. Sad, really.

Whaaat?! That would've been great to see 🤣
I practice 4’33” furiously, relentlessly, but I will never come close to Trifonov’s subtle and overwhelming mastery of the piece.

I really like how you insert yourself into these videos; not only do we have a rare glimpse of classical memes but it has a personal touch to it.
1:32 ☂️ 😂
I remember Trifonov saying he even practices in the bathtub. I think it’s for these moments.

Excessive attachment to the "old" is what makes classical music die.
Oh, and criticism of the new is good, is it?
You should try one with Glenn Gould hehe
Great series why not considering part 2 of langlang being langlang with ossia cadenza in it
