  • One of the most common questions I hear is, "which should I buy? A Ryker or a Spyder?"
    In this video, I compare a Can-Am Ryker Rally with a Can-Am Spyder RT Limited and talk about which factors you should think about when deciding on the perfect Can-Am on road vehicle for you.

    Girlfriend and I bought 2 2020 Ryker Rallys last year. Just upgraded to Spyder F3S & F3S Special. HUGE HUGE HUGE difference. Both great machines, but the Spyder F3S is just the better built and better riding machine. We are both 40, if that matters.

      What’s the difference between the Spyder F3S and F3S Special?

    • @kdub607
      @kdub607 2 года назад +4

      @@thomasferguson3724 engine is the same, difference is the display - the F3-S is a 7.6" monochrome screen (bigger version of the Ryker screen) vs. the Special Series (SS) is a 7.8" color screen with BRP Connect (apps). SS also has high performance shocks and comes in a specific color for that year model. Price-wise it's $1,000 difference between the two, so you have to decide is it worth it for the upgraded features. I opted up and am getting the F3-S Special Series 😊

      You took the video to a new level just by the words huge huge difference. I watched this to get an idea between the 2 and really got nothing from the clip. If I just wanted to look at the models I would go to a dealer. I was hoping for some facts . Thank goodness there's others out there with info 👍

    As a BRP certified instructor, I have ridden a lot of Spyders as well as Rykers. Wonderful machines to be sure. A major difference between the two is mounting the machine. The Ryker being lower, is much easier to swing a leg over. For the RT you need to step on on the footboard to swing your leg over the bike. A small but noticeable difference. For winding and twisting roads I really love the feel of the Ryker. For highways, the F3 limited is an amazing experience. The main advantage of the Ryker is the instantly adjustable handlebars and foot pegs. You can change effortlessly from a touring position to a cruising position. To me that is the Ryker’s main claim to fame.

      Good comment Jon , I’m disabled with RA , Ryker I can get on easy , but Spyder not a chance except the model with full length floor boards and no top box where I can step on and swing leg and hips. I have a Ryker 600 bought me back to motorcycles as my hands don’t work so good , auto , door controls , BRP has made me smile again

    Great video... I've owned both. Loved my Ryker and enjoyed it right up until my 3 wheel course where they put me on Spyder... I HAD TO HAVE ONE!!! Ended up trading in my Ryker the very next day and haven't looked back. The power, the feel... the ride is totally different. I have a Ryker Rally and spend most of my riding in and around the Shenandoah Valley often on mountain roads. There were often terrifying moments on 2 wheels when I'd run out of asphalt and find myself in loose gravel or hard packed dirt on steep hills. Now I just put the Rally in sport mode and jam the accelerator hard. After 50 years of two wheeling I'm having even more fun now.

    I took the course on an RT, and was going to buy a ryker because of the price and the overall perception that it is more for short trips around town, which is what I will mostly do…but then I tried out the ‘23 F3T. It just felt more comfortable, more features, and a mix between the RT and Ryker.
    Nothing stopping me from just using it around town, and who knows? I may end up trying it on a long distance trip someday! I pick it up this week!

Layed it down 3 times, but not being a quitter I tried a 2012 Spyder, traded old bike, and when not going to rain and at least 55 degrees, I'm ready to ride. I drive school bus so I have summers off, greatest thing I could have done!

    I am wondering if anyone has any concerns either way about a lower or higher seat height. The Ryker 600 is 23.5” and 900 is 24.2”. The F3 is 26.57” and the RT is 29.725”. I’ve sat on all of them and the Rykers feel too low for visibility, they’re lower than any motorcycle I’ve ridden 😬but the price is great. Even the Indian Scout Bobber is 25.1”. The F3 seems a good height for cruiser riders. The RT feels good as a touring bike for shorter legged riders and costs like one. 😅

    This is easy. My wife has a ryker (rally) and puts lots and lots and lots of miles on it for commuting, around the area rides, visiting and even picking up hot shot parts. It is cheaper, more nimble and easier for her.
    Now, when we go on the road trip..... we double up on the Spyder rtl. Reason? I can ride as driver or passenger. That means longer rides as you don't get fatigued from constant driving.
    We switch places at every fill up.
    One problem we need so solve (without a trailer) is enough gear for longer duration trips.
    Any ideas?

    I owned a 2014 Spyder RT, 2015 Spyder F3S and now I own a 2021 Ryker 900 Rally. If you go long distance with a significant other RT all the way. I like the F3S the best. It’s lighter than the RT and is relatively comfortable for 2 when you get the back support. The 2021 Ryker is definitely cheaper and fun though. I added a Treal exhaust and K &N air filter and soon will get it tuned. Acceleration is good on Ryker, but top speed (even with mods) is limited by the CVT transmission.

    I purchased my 2019 Ryker 900 ACE in June of 2020. I put a little over 12,000 absolutely trouble free miles on it in that time. The Ryker is a fun machine and very spirited but it just did not meet my riding expectations. We did have some good adventures together but I think the time has come for me to upgrade. So tomorrow I’m trading it in at the dealer and picking up a 2018 Can Am Spyder RT Limited. While I expect I’ll feel a sense of sadness to see it go, I’ll also be pretty confident that the new owner, who ever that might be, will be getting a cast iron reliable ride.

    I own a whole fleet of different types of motorcycles, from a 2020 HD Ultra Limited to a Ducati 916, to a Honda RC51, to a Kawasaki KLR650 and a Vulcan S just to name a few, but not all of them. I wanted to buy my wife a Spyder, considering she has zero experience on a two-wheeler. We looked for one in this area, and they're either too expensive (I am the one paying for it) or sold already. Then I came across a Ryker at work and looked into it. The price is drastically cheaper than a Spyder, considering it doesn't come with all the goodies a Spyder has to offer. Oh well, we'll add the accessories and give it a try. I ended up buying a used 2022 Ryker Rally with 42 miles on it that was on consignment through a motorcycle dealer in Chicago. The previous owner, who has health issues, thought he and his wife could ride it together. It didn't work out like he planned. He added many accessories to the Ryker, including the folding passenger seat, windshield, sway bar, floor boards, and other things. I bought it for $11,000 out the door. If my wife enjoys it like I hope she does, maybe we will buy a Spyder and still kerp the Ryker for my son to ride when he finishes college.

I HATE with a passion ALL the new rider forward Snowmobiles, I feel like my "Bolt and Nuts" are gonna fall into the gas tank fill opening!...Earlier this season I bought the last two Yamaha Venture TF Touring machines the dealer had...They are Deltabox III - Which they call rider forward, but in reality they have the same seating position as Evolved Polaris...Which was the last machines we had....Put 2000mi on them...I wish Ski-Doo would have made a more relaxed seated tourer 4-Stroke...I rented the Grand Touring, and Expedition previous couple winters...They still have the Sport Bike type MX-Z seating position...Rented Venture TF...and was sold!

    Silly question. Would there be more sense to wait until the winter to buy one? Financially that is. It would be logical to assume that dealers are looking to move their stock in a slower season and therefore are willing to be a bit more aggressive about it (rebates, discounts and such)?

    I don’t have one yet, However I think the F-3 is going to be my choice. Like the Ryker but it is a bit small for 2 up ridding which we do often. I had a major stroke about 5 years ago which robbed of my balance. Thank God that’s about all it took from me. I use to have a Valkyrie STD that my wife and I would ride often. So I’m use to big powerful. 1330 vs 900 cc, I know the Ryker has plenty of power and is pretty fast but I’m not a big fan of CVT transmissions. Now I need to figure out which model Spyder is rite for our needs. Keep your head on a swivel! I have been ridding all my life and cars etc just don’t see bikes. I haven't ridden the Ryker. I have ridden a Spyder a couple of times and it is a different experience from a two wheeler (as you would expect). At various times I did consider buying both a Spyder and a Ryker but in talking to a local dealer he suggested the Rykers (both models were built for the commuter market) and of course the Spyder is intended as a touring machine. The older Spyders had a 1000cc engine but a few years ago that was upgraded to a 1330 triple. I'm sure both machines have their pros and cons but I think I'd prefer the Spyder. Thanks for the review.

    The Ryker isn't very good off road, don't buy one for that. It's also pretty mediocre at best when touring. The RT is amazing touring. Also, a used RT is often a great value. The only problem with it is that the Ryker is a hell of a lot more fun.

      @alwaysplaythegame 3 года назад +1

      Thats an understatement, not even very good on gravel/dirt roads. I'd rate it similar to something like a 750cc cruiser... you can do it but it doesn't feel very good for it or you.

    • @jamesglenn520
      @jamesglenn520 3 года назад +2

      Not necessarily Off Road!
      More like off Pavement.
      We have put on hundreds of miles off pavement with our 2019 Rallies.
      If you adjust your suspension to fit your needs they are very capable machines.
      For people that don't know the difference.
      Ryker= shaft drive no problems with gravel.
      Spyder= belt drive a piece of gravel in the wrong place can break the belt.

    Nice comparison Morgan. I took the BRP 3 wheel class and they had all Ryker 600's. Very peppy and fun to ride. Afterwards I bought a used 2020 Can Am Ryker 900 ACE. Very low miles and it is wonderful. It was also all that I could afford! It's short coming is storage. It had one Shad bag on one side, and forget about tiny space in frunk. I bought an expandable tail bag and strapped down to the passenger seat for much better storage. Great daily driver, but going to be challenged for longer trips. The problem with Can Am is that all accessories are very expensive because they are all plug and play. No way can I afford $850 for the three bag luggage kit. I'll just have to make do. If I have to spend any more money I will look into a Spyder! macdanman Winter Haven, FL.

    I'm a ryker 600 owner and my bike rides rough. Vibrates, shakes, just an overall rough ride. Great for running around town but rough on long trips. Purchased brand new in 2022. Was thinking about getting a spyder, they just look more comfortable

    Have a Ryker and love it! My friends have Spyders, and I've ridden them, but personally I prefer the Ryker sporty look and feel, as well being closer to the road with a lower center of gravity. I have to ask....would you please tell me where you got your seat? Or what brand it is? Thank you!

    Very good video, you hit the nail on the head. I've driven both and if I were to tour the country like we used to, before a mulitude of health isses I would choose the Spyder. But I drove a Ryker home 100 miles just before Christmas which we bought for our son who had a stroke which crippled his left side to where he can no longer operate the clutch or shifter of a regular motorcycle, The night I drove the Ryker home it was raining and 52 degees (F). even in bad weather, I enjoyed every mile. Personally, I didn't like the way the Spyfer handled and bought a Harly Davidson Tr-Glide (I'm on my second one now) I might consider a F3 Limited next time becaise they sit a little lower and handle better than the Big Syder.
    But if I were to buy a three wheeled motorcycle today it would be a Ryker and I would add the passenger seat and luggage like you have on yours. I could still tour on it and have FUN FUN FUN every mile of the way. Thank you for sharing this videio

    On the Ryker I noticed you have a different seat. That's my biggest concern. There is a lip on the 900 and sport. It feels like I'm setting on it or falling off the back. The Rally comfort seat is more my speed. It looks like you have an after-market seat though. What do you recommend? I will use mine to zip around down but I may take a short road trip on occasions. I also have back issues so a VERY comfortable seat is a must. Thoughts?

    I’m in the fence love 2 wheels ,, I’m wondering what kinda riding can you do with the ryker vs. the spyder ,, I live in Michigan, for long riding I like going from one end of the lake to see the sun rise & then go to the other side of the state see the sun set at times ,,,, I’m asking do you feel a ryker would comfortable with two people to do that ride ,,,, I like the idea of 3 wheels no putting foot down or your foot lip on a little sand there going to the beach. That. Gets on the road way leaving the beach ,, on the fence ,, if you answer back to this thank you , love the video , ,, I hope I gave you a nuff info about one thing I like to do

    • @RykerChick
      @RykerChick  3 года назад +2

      Hi Leon! Great question. I've done longer rides on the Ryker. The longest I've gone is almost 300 miles in a day. I've never had a passenger with me. In order to do that with 2 people on a Ryker, you'd definitely have to make some adjustments with adding the passenger seat (probably the comfort one) and probably some more comfortable driver seating. The bonus is that the Ryker comes in at a price that makes adding some of these custom features more affordable. The Spyder is definitely known for its comfortable touring features, but it can be done on the Ryker too. I hope that makes sense. I appreciate you watching and commenting. 🙂

      I'm a big guy.. well.. horizontally.. 5'9" x 310. I took my class on 2021 ryker 900. I fit fine. The acceleration was quick. When I looked at a used f3, my belly pressed the glove box and it was too noticeable to be comfortable. I wound up with the 17 rtl. I'm pretty happy with it. I'm not liking the location of the brake pedal, but otherwise it's great. I do like sitting lower like the f3 and ryker. I guess sitting high and being heavy I feel like I'm going to be tossed off the monster doing tight curves. I lean forward if it gets too hairy.
