Hi Darren I think you expected too much at this price range but you are also right that there are other multimeters that can perform better than this at the same price range. but the absence of fuse protection is unacceptable. even a 3 dollar meter at least have one. Btw my HT118a is on the way and I cant wait to test it 😊

Resistor at F2 was marked 0 so it's a jumper. The shunt is actually 2 in parallel marked R13.

    • @KeepOnTesting
      @KeepOnTesting  2 года назад +2

Correct..I did more tests afterwards and it was indeed the jumper..still its a complete fail input protection wise 🥴👍

For the price, I would have expected much better probes and diode test. The continuity is so slow you could easily miss a short. The price is right on the edge where I expect capacitance. So yeah, I agree hard pass on this.

What a dog. I can't recall a meter that does 10A that didn't include a fuse. Thanks for the review as I'm sure it was painful to do.

On these really cheap ones it wouldn't hurt to check their input impedance with another meter. We expect 10Meg but some are less. The Harbor Freight was 1 Meg.

    • @KeepOnTesting

Good point 👉 I'll add that to the CHEAP-O repertoire in the future 😉 👍

@@KeepOnTesting 10 Meg is pretty inherently safe, even without PTC's and the like.

You do know your Amazon rechargeable batteries are 1.2V each not 1.5v as in normal batteries right? This affects electronics, especially flash used for photography.

I'll start by saying you paid waaaaay too much. When my venerable & much abused analogue TVM died a couple of years ago I bought an M118A to replace it and I like it a lot so when I saw them on the Aliexpress Singles day sale for only $8.82 CAD (regular price $14.49) with free shipping I bought another for when I need a 2nd meter.
Then I saw the M167 for $6.32 CAD (regular $11.96) with free shipping I figured I could hardly go wrong buying one of them too. It looks like they listened to videos like yours because the protective film was on the outside and easy to peel off. They seem to be aware of the lack of protection too because it came with a sticker over the amps plug that says "⚠STOP TESTING VOLTAGE IN CURRENT MODE" 😱 as well as a warning in the clearly written (if somewhat minimal) English manual.
I expect this will be fine for a secondary meter on my very crowded bench. It certainly looks better made than the $5 special from Canadian Tire that lives in the tool box I take to model train shows.

"the pull test" 😂 that's a good one.
I wonder why do they bother building this things anyway. Who would buy this?
Ohh man that Sanwa...I love that meter!

    You paid $25 Canadian?
    I paid under $4 USian.
NCV does not work at face of the socket, but detects along the wire, even USB wire.
All seems to work ok enough, for when I need quick and ok enough ;)

Hi Darren.. thks for the upload.. what's the minimum current that can measure? Is it 200mA, meaning if current less than 200ma i.e 10mA cannot measure? I plan to use it to measure parasitic drain for my car..which is in the range of 20mA to 60 mA DC..

    • @KeepOnTesting

Sometimes cheapos offer a conscious compromise between what you want and what you're willing to pay for it. But in this particular case, I have no idea on how to possibly use this thing aside from a paperweight.
It has only 6 modes and it's not particularly good at any of them. 4000 count and TRMS are nothing more but a marketing labels on a meter like this. Continuity is painfully slow, as expected. Build quality and test leads are akin to the cheapest cheapos. Aneng itself has better models in this price range, not to mention other manufacturers. I’m not sure why would they want to affiliate their brand with it.
As for this week's vent, I think Thsinde is still my favorite name. Sounds like someone came up with it while sneezing. 🙂
