I have to wholeheartedly agree, Rise was easily the worst of the trilogy and imo, Rogue One and Solo are better as well.
I personally like how they are portraying Vader. They are showing his hatred and pain for Kenobi since he blames him for what he has become. In other appearances he was doing his job and this is all about him. He always disliked being bossed around by the Emperor. Vengeance drove him and it was evident in this scene.
Vader is such a great character and I love what disney did with the darkness. I hope to see more of him suiting up and stuff or maybe a damaged mask like we saw when he was fighting Ahsoka. It would be really cool to hear Hayden speaking as vader!!
Underrated is how good Hayden did with that glare (good makeup too) and his fighting style and movements are great in the suit. That's tough because he needs to act on physicality alone and match an iconic character from 40 years ago...And he's totally pulling it off.
I literally love everything having to do with Star Wars, but I feel like the biggest thing that triggers everybody is the fact that they make characters to be a certain way and in the next movie or trilogy or even show they completely change it without giving us any sort of backstory for it. For example we went from having an absolute badass Luke Skywalker at the end of episode six she was seeing him just throwing his Lightsaber off a cliff Without really telling us why
That was part of the confrontation with the Emperor. Having fatally wounded Vader by slashing his arm in a rage, he had taken the Emperor's bait and was being shown how easy it was. He had a choice to make, and throwing away his lightsaber was denying the Emperor an easy win, because he refused to "take your father's place at my side" "You've failed your Highness, I'll never turn to the Dark Side, I am a Jedi, like my father before me"

I think it's hard for Disney to decide what to make & what gaps need filling in. In 1 way it might have been easier for us had Lucas just made the original trilogy 1, 2, 3! 🥹 But Darth Vader's breath always gets me. hanging out for Ep 4
Ey Paul! I haven't seen your videos for a while because I didn't watch any the movies and shows you were covering! But I'm back! So excited! Hope you hit 1mil soon!
I agree with what you said in this video. I feel that some people will just attack Disney without breaking down the whole story. Thank you for breaking this down.
Spot on fam. You're analysis of Darth Vader in Kenobi is excellent. As you stated the scene that nobody was prepared for was when he killed that family. The viciousness in which he used his power was incredible and totally unexpected. And even the Third Sister's response was even something, because she didn't expect him to be so brutal. Especially when he killed the kid. I didn't think Disney would go there either, but they did. And I must say, it added a dimension of viciousness to the character that we always knew he had in him, but we never saw him use on regular non-combatants. Remember though that is Anakin Skywalker did massacre female and children Sand People. That weren't directly responsible for the kidnapping of his mother on Tatooine. And he did massacre the little Padawan Jedi children in the Jedi Temple. So again Vader always had that evil streak in him.
What I wish you had spoken about more was Vader's omniscient and omnipresent powers that became apparent when he had the conversation with the Hologram of Third Sister in his castle. The scene of his castle itself is just mind-blowing. But the way he cut her off when she attempted to lie to him about the Grand Inquisitor's Death; the way he told her I've been watching you; the way he told her I know what it is that you seek. These were all very Godlike powers of omniscient and omnipresent. Communicating that Vader is way more powerful than we ever thought he was. And we of course we know that he has the power to read people's minds as well. Absolutely one of my favorite scenes in the new Kenobi series.
The wild bear/ corridor comment I love. Yer, agree they have got The Vade right. Great break down. Yer, this could all go wrong with what they do with him, but fingers crossed. Cheers as always.
At this point, I don’t even listen to what Star Wars “fans” say anymore. They hate EVERYTHING. And if/when they hate something they can’t even just move on with their lives. They feel they have to go out and attack the cast and crew. So now I just enjoy whatever.
I was 4yrs old when the first Star Wars came out. It took years to realize that my childhood reoccurring nightmare of a shaded tall, looming figure with an overpowering presence was Darth Vader. Good Times. So I Love every bit of him stalking, and being horror-esque in his development.
Brilliant video, kudos on highlighting the positive. Vader has been done tremendous justice post Disney (don't forget SW Rebels) and I wish more would acknowledge the same.
I love that Rogue One Vader hallway scene because in a split second it shows Vader hacking away at his victims with his light saber like it's a machete.
Great breakdown. And I agree, between Rogue One, Jedi Fallen Order, and Obi Wan, they are really capturing the brute force and ruthlessness of the dark lord. And anytime I think “did they make him too powerful”, we’ll we’ve seen most/all of these traits in the original trilogy, specifically Vader and Luke’s duel in Empire Strikes Back.
I love the way they are approaching Vader and Kenobi reuniting. I’m torn on the limited aggression Vader is showing toward Kenobi, but there’s time to amp it up.
"You either love it, hate it, or think it's fine "...... Im pretty sure that can be applied to just about anything! 😂 I completely agree though, Vader has been brilliant in recent media
Thanks for the vid as always Paul. This is supposed to be Vader in his prime, his peak. So any moment with him always resonates on all levels. Personally I just like to see him unleash the full arsenal he is capable of that I've read in the comics.
Everything you say about Rise of the Skywalker is true. That Babu Frik Joke though. "My Oldest Friend." That's right in my sense of humour. Best joke of the Disney Trilogy.
I think they've handled Vader very well - I have a tendency to want to compare to how they handled the characterizations for other legacy characters, and of course the most prominent contrast is probably with how Luke was portrayed in tLJ. There, we were given a Luke far removed from how we last saw him, with only a single throwaway explainer (which didn't make sense in and of itself). But here, we have a Vader very much inline with the journey we've seen him on and where we know he's going, one that's not antithetical to how he's been portrayed in the past, and doesn't require any explanation for a heel-turn change in character
Excellent analysis! I like the way that his character is a part of so many stories, but doesn't need to take all the screen time to do that. I think that only reinforces what you are saying here.
I hear people say "Vader let Obi Wan go", and that is why he didnt just put out the fire or force grab him. I am not sure that makes sense. He wanted the storm troopers to "bring him to me" until that pesky fire got reignited. Why did he suddenly change his mind? I just hope there was a logical reason to let Obi Wan escape, like they are tracking them or something. Otherwise, Vader could have captured him and tortured him endlessly. I cant imagine him passing up on that bc a little fire.
I grew up watching the prequels and later on watched the original and I gotta say I’m just happy that we even got an obi-wan show love Ewan McGregor I have mixed feeling about Hayden Christensen vader in episode 3 but still pumped about his return
I agree with everything you said the Vader we're getting now is one we always envisioned when we were kids I think Disney+ should think about giving us a full on Darth Vader series showing how ruthless he was hunting down the Jedi
I think the fact he’s showing more mobility and actual fighting prowess rather than just being a force user makes him more intimidating also. I was always confident I could whoop his ass in a fight if he didn’t have his lightsaber or force, due to the lack him showing mobility, but now I’m not so sure. The scene where his lightsaber illuminates him and he walks towards his helpless prey gives me the same feeling Kane did in the attitude era.

I'm one of those crazy people that loved the Last Jedi, but overall it's hard to deny that Disney's tenure with Star Wars has been shaky at best. That being said, I agree with you on their treatment of Vader. He's an absolutely terrifying force of nature (pun intended) that evokes fear in everyone (including every force user that he's encountered). It's interesting to also reflect on his relationship with Palpatine given this extra context for Vader, as Palpatine is the only person unafraid of Vader. It'll be interesting to see if we get future media that helps solidify this dynamic, since if Vader is this terrifying, Palpatine should be even scarier.
Totally agree!! I just wish there was more mystery for Obi-Wan about who Vader was, rather than 3rd sister blabbering his name out. I don’t know why she would know who he was
I love Vader's modern portrayal. I'm an 80s baby, and have been a fan since I was a kid. But I always found it hard to take the power levels of Return of the Jedi serious, due to the limitations of its time. However, his scene in Rogue One (imo) truly delivered on showing his power after his Anakin persona 'died'. That, along with Luke's scene at the end of The Mandalorian s2 are my favorite of the franchise. I still wish I could understand the heavy criticism of the franchise by so called 'fans', spanning back to the prequels
I have no issues with the show so far because it feels like New Hope to me. It has a good mix of stress and banter, uses hero's journey, and shows a Ben weighed down by paralyzing trauma and guilt. Vader is definitely the highlight. I had issues with the first half of Book of Boba Fett, as most did, because it just didn't feel Star Wars, didn't make me care that much. It only got good when it became Mandalorian 2.5. But I'm all in with Kenobi.

The end of Rogue one was so amazing. Oerfectly fit into the first movie
I personally like how they are portraying Vader. They are showing his hatred and pain for Kenobi since he blames him for what he has become. In other appearances he was doing his job and this is all about him. He always disliked being bossed around by the Emperor. Vengeance drove him and it was evident in this scene.
Yeah I always though he should have been more of a cringey whiny Sith Lord like kylo. Glad they are dumbing the character down to match the sequels
@@randalthekidd7006 eh....what?
Great video again, Paul.
Great vid! He had similar intimidating vibes in Rebels as well.
I completely agree. He is the ultimate horrific power that you can’t help but watch. They are making him more menacing and brutal. Vader!!!
They did tell us why, not their fault, the star wars fans are dumb dumbs and only see the OT as their holy bible
That was part of the confrontation with the Emperor. Having fatally wounded Vader by slashing his arm in a rage, he had taken the Emperor's bait and was being shown how easy it was. He had a choice to make, and throwing away his lightsaber was denying the Emperor an easy win, because he refused to "take your father's place at my side" "You've failed your Highness, I'll never turn to the Dark Side, I am a Jedi, like my father before me"
@@luisecawthorne1025 sorry I should’ve been more clear, that was in reference to episode 8. But just a short example of why I feel a lot of people aren’t happy with Star Wars at the moment. Just not enough on screen development
It's fine, I'm the same in some ways, not having read all the "canon" or Mandalorian, so I wasn't entirely up with the Inquisitors until tonight.
Thanks so much mate, really appreciate the support
I agree with what you said in this video. I feel that some people will just attack Disney without breaking down the whole story. Thank you for breaking this down.
The fire reflecting in vaders mask while Kenobi burns was chefs kiss 😗👌
Been loving KENOBI.
Great video my man.
Thanks 🙏
The wild bear/ corridor comment I love. Yer, agree they have got The Vade right. Great break down. Yer, this could all go wrong with what they do with him, but fingers crossed. Cheers as always.
Vader has always been my favorite character in Star Wars. I love the new show
Wow! I’ve never been this early in the comments! Love your videos!
I expect this from you everytime now. Otherwise there’ll be trouble.
At this point, I don’t even listen to what Star Wars “fans” say anymore. They hate EVERYTHING. And if/when they hate something they can’t even just move on with their lives. They feel they have to go out and attack the cast and crew. So now I just enjoy whatever.
I've been really enjoying the Disney shows, honestly
100% agree, I hope they up it more and have Vader use his force to it full Potential.
Vader is fucking terrifying in Part 3 of Obiwan.
Almost hit 1mil! Choo Choo!! Good luck 👍
Obi on the lamb: Dresses like a Jedi!
This is where the fun begins!
Looks like new characters are the best option to avoid controversy
Thanks for the vid as always Paul. This is supposed to be Vader in his prime, his peak. So any moment with him always resonates on all levels. Personally I just like to see him unleash the full arsenal he is capable of that I've read in the comics.
Everything you say about Rise of the Skywalker is true.
That Babu Frik Joke though. "My Oldest Friend." That's right in my sense of humour. Best joke of the Disney Trilogy.
Outstanding. Thank you for this.
1:22 I've watched this film dozens of times but only now do I notice Vader's helmet actually flaps and wobbles in the wind in that shot.
i haven’t been this scared of Vader since i was a kid. it’s cool to be able to relive how terrifying he was to a child watching for the first time
Vader was fantastic that episode, it's great how he's pure brute strength now as opposed to fancy moves, like he was when he was Anakin
I love this show and I am surprised it's getting so much hate. I didn't watch the last movie and only half of the one before that....but this is good
You were absolutely right when you said that there is a big part of the fan base that hates everything out there.
I think about his scene in Rogue One all the time. That was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever seen at the movies 😂
Well said, completely agree!
They showing his legendary career, his bad assery ‼‼‼‼👏🏾👍🏾🙌🏾❣
Excellent analysis! I like the way that his character is a part of so many stories, but doesn't need to take all the screen time to do that. I think that only reinforces what you are saying here.
Episode 3 of Kenobi had me legit frightened, this is why I have faith that they'll do Daredevil correctly also
I hear people say "Vader let Obi Wan go", and that is why he didnt just put out the fire or force grab him.
For now, he needs Obi-Wan like the Joker needs Batman. If he kills Kenobi now, what else does he have to care about?
Vader has the planet locked down, so perhaps assumes Kenobi isn't going anywhere and can cower in fear for a while.
I’m stoked for new episodes! Don’t let us down, Disney.
I grew up watching the prequels and later on watched the original and I gotta say I’m just happy that we even got an obi-wan show love Ewan McGregor I have mixed feeling about Hayden Christensen vader in episode 3 but still pumped about his return
I love that they used James Earl Jones’ voice. Iconic.
Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villains of all-time! 😎
That’s a great point
Fuck mate, you threw a cold water bucket at the end ahahah thanks for that! 😤🤣
they did a great job with vader, now disney must do the same with Dr. Doom!
A very good sci fi series is on Showtime. I highly recommend for you to watch. It stars the actor who plays Baron Mordo from Dr strange... The Man Who Fell to Earth... based off of The book movie(starring David Bowie), and I guess original TV series. I never seen the originals but this one I am heavily interested in. You might have a different taste but you might like this. Baron mordo(I can't pronounce the actors name) carrys the show really well. All three actors are good.
Excellent explanation! I fully agree with all of this. Also just curious...Celebration 2023 London. I hope to see some of the UK HSpoilers peeps out there.
Hey
I’m a old guy 48 yrs on this planet and a total Star Wars fan… this the best Vader…. EVER ❤️
Thanks for the video
Totally agree!! I just wish there was more mystery for Obi-Wan about who Vader was, rather than 3rd sister blabbering his name out. I don’t know why she would know who he was
Thanks for the info
there is a reason why the rogue on clip is used so often because its the most badass thing vader has done in like action.
I think it’s really good it even says might be a second series because of the sheer volume of support I hope Ashoka comes into it at some stage
Tbh I think that the sequel characters have a lot of potential I just feel like the sequels need redoing massively
Awesome video, I think that Vader is perfect so far.
Vader is an excellent case of “show, don’t tell,” and boy do they ever.
I loved this 😆😆😆👍🏼
"like a bantha" is underrated, change my mind
I have no issues with the show so far because it feels like New Hope to me. It has a good mix of stress and banter, uses hero's journey, and shows a Ben weighed down by paralyzing trauma and guilt. Vader is definitely the highlight. I had issues with the first half of Book of Boba Fett, as most did, because it just didn't feel Star Wars, didn't make me care that much. It only got good when it became Mandalorian 2.5. But I'm all in with Kenobi.
