  • Donald Trump is hoping that the conservative-majority top court will save him from at least one of his legal woes. Meanwhile, a separate case over hush money charges is keeping him occupied in New York.
    The top US court heard arguments on Thursday from former President Donald Trump's legal team that he should be given immunity from criminal prosecution for any actions taken during his time in office.
    Among his maze of legal problems, the top court's decision could have the biggest impact on Trump's third run for the White House later this year - as well as setting a precedent for future US presidents.

    Trump's claims of unlimited immunity from the law couldn't be any more un-American. It's an admission of guilt.

      The communist democrat news has brainwashed millions of people by making news clips of Trump then cutting and editing vital parts of what Trump has said to make Trump look guilty.
      How many times will it be shown when Trump tells the crowed-on Jan 6 to be peaceful and make yourself heard that part gets cut out all the time.

      It's classic Trump behavior. Deny the accusation, claim the accused activity is fine, and then obstruct.

    Why should someone that broke the law have immunity?

    • @whatgoesaroundcomesaround920
      @whatgoesaroundcomesaround920 15 дней назад

      Supposedly because as Prez he might have to do something illegal to protect the nation, and shouldn't be held accountable because of why he did it. But it seems that there are already laws on the books that discount murder in foreign lands (like killing terrorists) and several other crimes if ordered by the Prez. And every person in service to the US is required NOT to obey an unlawful order, even if the president gives it, so that keeps the Prez from misusing his powers, so he doesn't need immunity.
      There's also limited immunity, which all on the court seem to agree on -- that in carrying out the powers specifically given him in the Constitution he is immune from prosecution. However, the facts of those actions may be used as evidence in court when connected to criminal activity, even though they aren't chargeable. I don't think for a minute that absolute immunity in all actions will be permitted.

    Only in a Democracy can a debate about whether a president has immunity could happen. The fact that this is happening is not signaling the end of democracy; if he is found to have immunity, that would be the end of the democracy, but if he is found to not have immunity, that is freedom and justice in action.

      The US, by all criteria, is NOT a First World Country. What makes the US a First World country? Having a handful of obscenely rich people, the most expensive military in the history of the world, and Hollywood doesn't make a country First World. The US has some of the worst healthcare and medical care on earth. The judicial system is an absolute joke. The prison system is shameful... so what makes the US a First World Country? Actual First World Countries all do a better job in every category. I live in a developing country. I've got free world-class healthcare, geez.

    Just out of curiosity, how many court judges have been held accountable for incorrect judgments? Have there been any criminal cases against them due to such errors? In fact, it seems nothing ever happens to judges for incorrect judgments, which are extremely common. It appears that every judge makes them frequently. Judges seem to be above the law, not accountable, and are not elected by the people. Meanwhile, politicians from various parties face extensive criticism from the public and the media. They are often portrayed negatively. On the other hand, bureaucrats, particularly judges, seem to enjoy a lack of accountability

      @@sonneh86 their coverage made it seem like the public want him to be convicted when the reality is the majority of Americans now support Trump. The wording by DW was deceitful and careless at best with the depiction of Trump as guilty of what he is being accused of unequivocally.
      The truth is that he urged people to only protest peacefully and patriotically. There were some unruly people that got out of control and broke down the doors and windows leading to a riot...and not an insurrection, hence even the special counsel not able to charge him with insurrection, because it was not even close to that and video evidence supports that
