Good description of those 1st gen gauges by Dakota Digital, "Hideous Alarm clock", exactly. Project is coming along nicely, It will be so worth all the work when you get to drive it.
Haha thanks! I thought it was fitting. And I know, I can't wait to drive it! I thought I'd be chomping at the bit here toward the end, but I've actually been fighting a lack of motivation. Idk why, but it has seemed like such a chore to go down to the garage recently
@@CheekyGarage I appreciate you guys letting me know the Dakota digital dash for the S 10 is they ridiculous look good thing I went through your comments before I went out and spent $600-$800 on a BS alarm clock LOL but what you did with all the customizing it’s just too much work for me and my son considering I am blind and he doesn’t know too much about the auto industry yet but I am slowly but surely getting him there LOL THANKS AGAIN !!!
The original S10 clusters are crispy crunchy aged plastic & near impossible to take apart to swap out 1 guage without severely damaging them. I replaced my oil guage 25 years ago, and 20 years ago the needle fell off the guage. So my oil pressure gauge is my ears. If it rattles, I'll know it's low on oil pressure. Besides, there's a low oil pressure idiot light just in case on my 86.
@@CheekyGarage my second gen is moving slowly as well. Motivation is scarce with a new baby but it'll get there. This truck makes me miss the square bodies I've had in the past alot. Been following along for a while now. Keep at it sir 👍
If you went from analog to digital how much modifying did you have to do? Did it all just plug-in to the new digital dash you installed or did you have to convert from analog to electrical? I want to do it to my 91S 10 but I have analog and not sure how we go about with it I don’t know if the wires from analog plug right into the digital or if you have to have a background in electrical engineering
I promise you I spent more time walking away from this thing than I did working on it lol. The silver lining is once you start cutting it up, you gotta finish
You mean the digital dash Dakota digital offers for the S 10 is hideous? I was going to put one in my 91S 10 but if it looks hideous I’m not going to waste the $800 they want for it got me up at 600 either way that’s a lot of money for a hideous digital dash LOL sorry it was supposed to say $800 for a digital dash😆
I hated the sound of the stock alarm module too. Replaced it with a newer unit from another GM. Got it from a Buick I believe. How instead of the beeeeep I get the ding-ding sound.
@@alienuser6918 check the junk yard, should be around the same build period, so late 80s and 90s. The alarm centre (the unit) looks the same, but might have another colour f.i.
That’s nice! Too bad not all first-Gen S-10’s ain’t the same. I have an ‘85; no OBD port at all. I reckon I’ll be looking for a different solution. Thanks for posting this!
I only have OBD2 because of my LS swap. You don't need to run BIM module. The DD gauges come with all the needed sending units. And the earlier first gens would be a lot easier to put attractive gauges in I'd imagine, since they already have round gauges
It’s called Dakota digital just a heads up they are pricey but you can get digital dash is through Summit racing jegs and basically anywhere that sells performance parts for vehicles but Dakota digital has their own website

I guess you guys were onto something. Dakota Digital now makes a direct fit cluster using this gauge style.
