Amazing work you do Barbara sharing your passion. How much I concur on the fact that Prokofiev is such a genius and how profoundly incandescent his music is. Despite only in the beginning steps of my Prokofiev journey, all three war sonatas are simply masterpieces and how not to strongly recommend nr 6 even though 7 is more often played... his second and third piano concertos are also full of an immense joy. When one thinks that he composed the second one when he was only 19, one can only feel soooooo humbled ! I cannot help, even when watching them played in concert on RUclips, standing up to applaud when it ends ! Thank you again, this is so good for all hearts, young and old !

Many thanks and so happy to meet another lover of Prokofiev's music. You might enjoy the preview I have just posted of my performance of his Sixth Sonata, part of a video masterclass on his Three War Sonatas that we are putting together. ruclips.net/video/1Zb8-Izp18M/видео.html
      This video
will also include interviews with his grandson Gabriel Prokofiev, his biographer Harlow Robinson and the expert on Prokofiev from the Moscow Conservatory, Natalia Savkina. Promise to keep you posted! Hard to choose which one is the best of these three- they are all masterpieces!!

You are absolutely fabulous. I love Prokofiev’s piano music. The last piece I learned was the first movement of the 6th Sonata. Just so much fun. Thank you for sharing your talents with us always ❤

It such a treasure to hear you discuss this sonata. You were my very first introduction to Prokofiev's piano sonata's with your complete recordings of the sonatas. I was just sixteen at the time (I'm fifty now) and I was a student at The SFCM learning Prokofiev's third piano sonata. It was always a dream to be able to study Prokofiev and Ginastera under you. Your interpretations were always so melodic and you bring out nuances I never hear other pianist play. Truly amazing!

Many thanks for your dear words. Spending time with Prokofiev has always been a labor of love for me. At the moment I am working on a video masterclass of his three War Sonatas followed by performances of each work. So we continue to spread the word! Do hope that you are still playing Prokofiev sonatas. Will keep you posted about our video- it's part of the masterclass series I have been working on- so much great music to share!! All good wishes to you!!

Great video. It's so nice to see a talented person such as yourself speak with such passion and share such great art with us. I love the humor in his music like powerful but slightly clownish moment at 20:28. He's rare in that regard (although Bartok was also a master of humor, it a pity by all accounts never met or wrote about each other's music). I find some other composers attempts at humor forced but for him it was just a natural part of his expression. It's a silly question to ask a great performer such as yourself but do you have a favorite movement among the 9 piano sonatas?

Thanks for sharing- I totally agree with you- Prokofiev had such inner joy when he was composing that you can't help but smile and you're right that it is never forced- always "natural." You asked me a difficult question- very hard to choose -and when you are performing them, that movement becomes your "favorite" and your focus. I guess that I would have to cast my vote for the three War Sonatas- truly can't choose between the three of them but then all those others are so wonderful! No definitive answer from me! Just music to love and to keep playing and keep rediscovering!

@@barbaranissman5878 Thank for the reply :) Being asked to choose a favorite Prokofiev sonata is like being asked to choose a favorite child. But my favorites would also be the war sonatas, though 2 was the one I first loved. The andante from the 4th is truly remarkable as well. One last thing, your interpretation of the Ginastera Piano concertos are my go-to recordings.
