Alfred McCoy is the author of the now-classic book: “The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade.” Al McCoy’s latest book is “In the Shadows of the American Century: The Rise and Decline of U.S. Global Power.”
Last summer, Al McCoy joined us on Intercepted for a wide-ranging discussion on Trump and Russia, the history of CIA interference in elections around the world, the Iran-Contra Scandal, CIA crack-cocaine epidemic, U.S. proxy wars, narco-trafficking in Afghanistan, and much more. In that interview, Al McCoy predicted that China is set to surpass the influence of the U.S. globally, both militarily and economically and he says it’s going to happen by the year 2030. At that point, Al McCoy asserts, the United States empire as we know it will be no more. He also told us that the Trump presidency is a byproduct of the erosion of U.S. global dominance but not its root cause.

Yeah, McCoy's book on decline of American Empire is good, and it's not terribly long or dense.
His book on the CIA and heroin is totally mind blowing though.

Surely we must recognise that the rising Chinese hegemony will be many times worse than US hegemony has been. Moral relativism is awful, but again we must agree that it is better than the liberal order prevailed over Nazi Germany *edit* clearly this is a blunt example.
@@GingerDrums what makes u think china is interested in becoming the next global hegemon? china has an explicit policy of not having allies so not to get itself entangled in other nations' conflict, that was also a fear of the founding fathers of USA. all these 'China is taking over xxx' narrative is baseless and used by US fear mongering bc of their own insecurity of losing their hegemony over the world. and they should be, bc they have pissed off so many nations and cause immeasurable misery with their wars and sanctions.
