It's nothing less than a marvel that with roughly one hour of instruction (including the first video) you end up with this treasure of a banjo piece ... That is pure teaching genius! I just hope Mr Hunn will take up making videos again in his retirement, these videos just keep spreading so much joy!

HI guys, Wayne from Australia here. No we don't have upside down Banjos! These are fantastic lessons from Barry and he is an absolute Gem to have presenting them. He really puts the fun and enjoyment in learning and encourages taking the time and not feeling rushed to reach a certain point or feeling like a failure because you haven't got there in quick time. Thank You so much Barry and the Deering company.

Barry Hunn is a precious treasure. His communication and soul just make learning a breath of fresh air. I don't get frustrated at all when I don't get something right, I'm just happy to be learning and that is new for me. Mr.Hunn should make instructional videos for every day activities, it would give me more things to look forward to 🤣

This is by far the best explanation (with demonstration) of hammer on / pull off that I have ever seen. Thank you!

These Clawhammer videos are amazing - thanks so much for making them! Couldn't say what it is that makes such a difference in your style of teaching, but somehow it just makes sense - when I watch the videos then try it out, like magic, my fingers do what they're supposed to and it sounds really cool. I got my beautiful little banjo (a Deering artisan junior!) less than a week ago having never played before, and I can already play along with this video, thanks to your teaching. Plus, I really do look forward to playing - makes a real big difference when you can get to making real music right off the bat!

Trying to learn how to play the banjo again after 5+ decades of not playing it because I wanted to stay with playing my guitar my father taught me how to play at a very young age, I almost gave up again until I was told about your videos on here Barry.
Your videos have really lit the fire under me that I needed to continue to learn to play the banjo again. I have a Washburn Americana M3E that I like and it's a great starter banjo however I hope to get myself a Deering Banjo as soon as I feel I'm good enough and I deserve a fine Deering Banjo.
I love this clawhammer method of playing the banjo and I think that was my problem because I was learning the Scruggs way of playing bluegrass and I found that uninteresting and quite boring to be perfectly honest about it.
Thank you so much Barry for your clawhammer method of playing the banjo and for lighting that badly needed fire under me to continue to play the banjo. You're the man!👍

Are there tabs for the melody part? Would be much easier than trying to play this over and over to see what string Barry is striking and what fret he is using. I've had to put this is slo-motion mode and have to pause and stop after each note, and that's not the most helpful.

I really enjoyed the first part. That one was almost TOO slow but that's okay. This seemed more like Part 5 than Part 2: Having just learned the three chords in Part 1, it would have been amazingly helpful to call out what chords are being played where. Watching Barry's fingers, then pausing the video, then getting mine set, then playing, then unpausing, then pausing at the next note, etc. did not work at all for me. I'd love to have at least one lesson in between these two, perhaps where he just works on the first stanza for a while.

Hi there, thanks for your reply. The original Clawhammer method was filmed using a Goodtime Americana, which is a great instrument. However, the Clawgrass No. 2 is a very popular banjo among clawhammer/clawgrass fans and so we wanted to highlight the range of banjos available for this style, particularly when many players look to move up as they progress.
We truly appreciate your feedback and hope you are enjoying the lessons. Thanks.
