Squatting on land you do not own is simple land theft. Whether it is 1 square foot or 1 Acre. There are various reasons why certain lands need to be Government owned for protection.

@@ruffenuff7618 For the general public - you and me and our future population - public purposes. For example, imagine people building homes around Grand Etang. The water gets polluted through septic tank runoff, someone dropping a quart of engine oil on the ground (did you know that one quart of engine oil can contaminate 1 million gallons of drinkable water), air pollution, etc. The water we all drink gets more chemicals into it that can harm us. Clear cut all the trees on the mountain tops and we get landslides. Build on all the land, where do we put a new school as the population grows. Parks, hospitals, new roads, water storage tanks for future droughts, testing new crops or new varieties of crops all require reserved land.
Land is a finite resource. They are not making more. Imagine Government giving everyone who wants a piece of land some land. There will be none left for future use.
To see what happens to land that has been mismanaged just google it. Look at the dividing line between Haiti and Dominican Republic. Dominica has large, beautiful green forests. Haiti is mainly scrub land and few trees and quite a few areas that are essentially barren where nothing can grow.
Beside loss of biodiversity, you can have increased floods and harsher dry weather periods - nothing to stop soil erosion, degradation of the soil and its ability to feed us, chemical pollution as we try and use inorganic fertilizers to improve the land, etc.
I want to use my land to benefit me. Government uses its land to benefit everyone. They just operate on a longer timescale than you and I do.

So you think , you can just come and take something that is not yours ? Let somebody walk in your house and take what they want . It is time for people to pay for what they need and want . Nothing in life is free everything comes with a price .

Who give the Government the Authority to sell the land ?.and why are they selling it to Grenadians ? the land belongs to the people of Grenadia not the government who the government bought the land from ? And how much they paid for it ? so they are selling the land to the people and the people still have to pay taxes on the the government sell to them ?

Thanks and praise for this initiative. If squatters descend on the hill above Grand Anse beach, it would negatively affect every Grenadian by harming our tourism industry and therefore Grenada's economy. We need anti-squatting arrangements that are effective, AND we also need a large housing program recognizing that urbanization is a reality facing many developing countries, including Grenada. According to the World Bank 56% of the world's population now live in urban areas, compared to approx 33% in the late 1950s. This trend can be curbed by ensuring more economic projects in rural parishes; and there is great potential in all of Grenada's parishes. Meanwhile, for historic squatters who have a genuine claim within the existing legal framework, finding ways to speed up the legal process for land ownership would be important as this may allow for bank loans to build more hurricane resilient housing. Finally, in order to sustainably accommodate the urban spread that could positively impact St. David's, thought needs to be given to much wider roads that would course through Grand Anse Valley and extend to Grenville.
