50 - 100miles away, that's next door in Australia. I live in Sydney, the closest recumbent shop is 247miles away then the next closest is 572 miles away. Neither of which have the stock or variety that Laid Back Cycles or many other US shops have. It's almost better to fly to America for a holiday and check out the variety not available bank in AUS.

Great video! RUclips with Laidback, Utah Trikes, Hostel Shoppe, The Bike Shop are my goto’s. I was spoiled with the Bike Shop and then an excellent trike guy in Eastern Tennessee. St. Charles Illinois is a long hike and my local guy retired. I’m now my own trike mechanic thanks to Laidback and a number of other RUclipsr’s. Please keep the info coming. Thanks!

Great video! We live 170 miles from Laidback Cycles and think it is well worth the drive to visit the shop and try out the trikes. Thanks Mickey!! Sonny and Lynda

I live within five miles from the Terra trike factory in Kentwood, Michigan.
I used to work right across the street from the factory.

The closest trike/bike shops to me are within 50 miles from my location. Of course they are 50 miles out in opposite directions. And within 150 miles I have a total of 6 shops. And I visited everyone of them to try out several different makes and models of trikes. I was about to drop the wallet on a Catrike 559 when a used Catrike Dumont turned up. When I bought it was only 2 years old barely used and in like new condition, I drove 8 hours to get that trike, it was a killer deal, almost half the price of a new 559. And I haven’t looked since getting my trike. Since then my local bike shop has become Catrike and Terra Trike certified, so maintenance issues are now a 20 minute drive for me. All I can say is if your on the fence, thinking about a trike, start with a few test rides, every model has a different fit feel, and the only way to know which is for you is the put your butt in one and ride.

You are so right about making the effort to get test rides of as many trike brands and models as possible. Whenever a newbie online asks which trike is the best one, lots of people chime in, recommending the one they're riding. People, though, are as varied as snowflakes! You have to test ride as many as possible to know which brand and model fits your body and budget. Once you find that perfect fit, the odds of being happy forever are greatly in your favor. I could write a really looooong paragraph about the benefits of trikes!

We are switching from our local shop to one over 3 hours away for several reasons. One is because the mechanic we loved left. There are great trails nearby the new shop so it will be worth the drive.

I have a local bike shop that sells TerraTrike by special order - they don't have any in stock. I'm sure that they would work on my trike if I needed them to though.

I agree 100%. We have 300+ miles to a good dealer.

My first recumbent trike was 500-miles round trip...horrible drive!

Hopefully the rides afterwards have been worth it :)

Try telling my local bike shop, Corley Cycles, that they can work on my trike, because they kept telling me, for months, that it was fine, then, when I came to booking it in, they said they wouldn't touch it! I was extremely angry!

Corley Cycles are also an authorised Shimano service centre, and my trike is an ICE Sprint X Tour with Shimano Steps... but they wouldn't go near it in the end, and they left me completely in the lurch. I wound up driving all the way from Milton Keynes to Cornwall, to get it serviced by ICE, personally, which they kindly did for free, as the dealer had screwed me over with the cables, installing cheap ones, which caused no end of issues, and not tightening things properly. I was also extremely angry with the dealer for the mess he left me in. Everything seems to be rubbish in this country!

Just work on it yourself. Don't pay the overpriced fees that a shop will charge you. There's plenty of videos on RUclips that'll help you do it.

You can definitely work on it yourself if you’re comfortable doing so. Make sure to torque bolts properly and follow manufacturer specs.
