  • Louisiana Republicans take the lead from Florida's GOP by going after progressive district attorneys.
Members of a Louisiana Senate committee questioned Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams Thursday over the work of a civil rights division that Williams says helps restore trust in a long-troubled New Orleans justice system.
Republican lawmakers criticized Williams over the motives and reasoning behind moves by his office to back the release of many long-serving prisoners.
Jason Williams spoke with Roland Martin about Republicans brazen attack.

@@funkyfresh6978I am for prison reform and not for, for profit; as it is presently. Does this issue speak to you as if she has reverse racism and hates the black part of her identity? People of color do not have a monopoly on crime. Neither do I agree with making statements of generalization that are based on statistics. And as we know, you should get time for committing crime. Unfortunately there are an increasing number of people that have been and still remain to be wrongfully arrested and prosecuted. People tend to lean up against her being known to be tough on crime, yet complain about the criminal associations that we condone and the high crime rates. Approximately 175.000 attendees and $300 million to New Orleans for 30 years, and we still make it our mission to drink, sing and dance, smdh. The state offers nothing much to people of color, except mass incarceration and few economic programs. As long as we do the same thing nothing will change. It occurred in the early 90’s . Now ‘23/ ‘24 dna has proven the case. Ok the wrongfully charged are free . But the actual perp ; who was questioned and released…& committed suicide . The victim was white. The wrongfully charged mostly white. Except in Hawaii “ local “ and the actual perp mixed probably Asian. And once again Hawaii is a big D democratic state. Thankfully dna can clear these crimes and procecute them. Hopefully these terrible crimes just stop.

Here is the problem with Jason. The last two years, crime was out of control. Between the car jackers, the car break ins and murders, the crime rate landed New Orleans at the top on the worst crime list. The DA’s office was a revolving door for criminals, until he and his mother were car jacked. The Governor sent the state troopers and federal agencies who formed a coalition and the crime rate went down. The Governor only did this because of the upcoming Super Bowl and tourism, but Jason did not help crime at all. However Jason is correct in stating innocent people should not be in jail, but when you have released murders who commit more murders something is broken. Sorry Roland I love to expose Republicans, but this is not the case.
