    Jonn regis was probably our best overall sprinter back then. 100, 200 and 400

      Regis was a stud!! I always thought he was just a "4th runner" trying to hold his own. 43.9 is good enough to be a star on any relay team. Incredible! Especially for someone who looks like he plays middle linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.

      I always thought that Regis could have done something really special if he had moved up to 400m in the individual event.

    If we’d had a (better) quality runner on the first leg, the team could have got around 2:56.5

    When the commentators would talk bad about regis "not being a 400m runner, called a comparative novice, inexperienced etc" and regis was a tank stepped up and would run mid 43- low 44's. Really makes the commentators look like real assholes.

    "The West Germans not out of the picture yet either"... Was the commentator watching the same race as I was? By the last 100 metres, the West Germans were most certainly out of the picture, metaphorically speaking, and almost literally in the TV picture.
